Clueless Pearson

So working to that logic, does the fact we only won three in the last 17 games at the end of last season mean he was clueless then?

It would of, had we finished mid table or lower. But we finished 6th, and got into the play-offs.

That wouldn't signal a 'clueless' manager would it? And seeing that he's won 3 in the first 5 playing crap as people have said, what about when we do play well?

Ince finished 15th last season, we finished 6th. That's a big gap don't you think?

yes, & it's embarrassing how a lot of people know jack shit about football on here. 450 minutes of football played & about 90 minutes of decent stuff.

Here's one for you! Blackpool have had a flying start to the season don't you agree? Do you think Paul ince is a good manager? The answer is no by the way, he's shit!

So because we 'haven't been playing well', it automatically means that the manager is clueless regardless of the season's progress?

That's a real gem.

The tile of this thread (he is evidently not clueless) has distracted rather from a reasonably valid criticism.

Birmingham aside we've been fairly insipid in every league game this season. The points tally is healthy but the performances have been far from good. The switch back to 352 in this game was wholly unnecessary, whether the lack of creative verve is intentional or not that seems to be the consequence of this formation and doing so against such a poor side as Charlton seems an incredibly cautious move. Bringing in Hammond indicates we are going to persevere with this system but it is not our midfields defensive duties in a 352 which are the problem, it is their lack of cutting edge in supporting the attack. Whether the intention is to allow Hammond to sit and grant more 'freedom' to the other two midfielders remains to be seen but with the departure of Marshall and the benching of our more 'creative' players this is the part of the approach which i think needs attention.

A more apt title would have been 'cautious Pearson'

Myself included, who on this forum knows the players mental and physical state leading up to games, studies the opposition team tactics in detail ahead of the games and has the experience of having played league football, coached and managed at a high level for a number of years and is surrounded by other people with similar experience all offering their input (Shakey / Walsh etc)?

There are upward of 20k LCFC managers each with their own views, opinions of players and formations and none with the insight Pearson and his team has. The chances of 100% of these 'would be managers' (me included) agreeing with 100% of Pearson's choices is zero.

I assume, and that's all I can do, that Pearson realised last season that we were not winning away games by trying to play an attacking formation with attacking players. He seems to have reverted to the way (if not the formation) he played in the L1 season where often the flair players were dropped away from home in an attempt to make us harder to beat rather than going out to simply outscore the opposition irrespective of how many they score.

I would like to see how this pans out before changing anything as it is early days and so far the points return has been good. I like having Dyer and Knockaert up our sleeve for the 2nd half to come on when defenders are tiring and more susceptible to their abilities.

If we can stop the other team scoring away from home, we are guaranteed a point and that is all we need if we win our home games. We only need one chance in a game and if we take it, that's 3 points - bonus - if not 1 will do.

The formation doesn't seem to be costing us goals. A little more training on not giving free kicks away around the box and defending set - pieces needed maybe but I am sure they are working on that.

We are adding different formations to our 'arsenal' 4-4-2 / 3-5-2 / 4-3-3 / 4-3-1-2. This gives us a plan B, C D etc. It makes it harder for other teams to prepare against us. It will take time for the players to get used to different ways of playing but we have only just started the season.

Yesterday is hardly a benchmark. Had the ref awarded the penalty and as a result not sent off James, the score would no doubt have been 1-1, we would have had momentum, Pearson could have stuck to his original game plan and who knows, we may have gone on to win. This division is about fine margins. This 1 decision could well have change the result and this thread would probably not exist.

You can compare with the previous week when Donny scored 3 - it was a different game, different weather, different 'fine margin incidents' etc

I kind of wish we could all be a little more measured when we win or lose a game as often it is just 1, 2 or 3 incidents in 90 mins that turns the game one way or another.Noted - this is virtually impossible 5 mins after the game finishes as emotions run high.

Time will tell this season if Mr P is making more correct decisions than wrong ones, whether he has the right balance in the team, whether he is able to get the best out of the players but 10 points from 5 - 2 points per game is exactly where we need to be right now and I feel our greatest weapon this year is a stable squad and stable management team.

Funnily enough no.

I've gave Pearson credit where it's due, for example his changes at boro.

However today it was clear to see, we should be going away full of confidence 5 wins out of 6 and attacking them just like donny, who knows we could of been 3 up ourselfs with vardy and dyers pace. But no we played defensively with 5 at the back and didn't have a shot on target all first half.

Shocked to see some people are content with this.

It wasn't supposed to be 5 at the back was it, Schlupp and Delaet are supposed to be pretty nifty wing backs which in theory would make it quite an offensive line-up. It's just that they didn't get forward as they should, so either they were poor or, just possibly, Powell got his tactics right and closed tham down quickly and stifled the game. Did you actually go to the game or just listen to the radio. I actually went and yes, the first half was hardly inspiring stuff but NP did change it for the second when unfortunatley James got himself sent off which made life difficult to say the least, even then, if we'd taken our chances, we could have won. And perhaps NP bringing the more attack minded player on in the second half when some of the opposition might be tiring a little just might be a deliberate tactic, who knows, either way, its been working so far.

It's just one of those things, we will lose games. Man U lost to Liverpool today, should they sack Moyes for that as well already, does it make him clueless as well? Fergie also lost a few, the clueless bugger!
