Dan Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 Wouldn't bother with Sharp on sentimental value. Isn't any better than what we've got and he's turned us down twice already - if he was that arsed about joining Leicester he already would've done. Stewart seems to have completely tailed off (although recently scored a rocket?). I'd take Zaha though. Still think he's over-rated but he'd be more than good enough for us.
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 I said closing out a game, not chasing one. I agree that he's quite limited but he'll have a role to play this season, he's the sort of bloke who can help us turn a 2-0 into a 4-0, if you get me. Dyer's goal at Watford is exactly what he's here to do - held up the play before releasing him through on goal due to their higher line. We'll score a lot of goals because of that. Pearson's subs that game in general baffled me to be honest and made me think if we need a single signing, then it's someone to replace Marshall - and by replace Marshall, I mean do the things that Marshall should've done. Marshall wasn't a bad footballer but in the majority of games he was anonymous. He went on that goalscoring run when we signed him, but overall he was quiet and would struggle to make any impact. They're real long shots and I guess both will be loaned out to Premier League sides, but I'm talking of someone like Zaha or Sterling - although if we brought either of those in I think they'd be recalled pretty sharpish if they weren't starting games. We need a natural winger who can play on either side, come on and make an impact. There's a lad at Mansfield who's meant to be highly rated and he could fit the bill, never know. Dan.... Pearson brought GTF on when we weren't closing out a game. He brought him on when we were 2-0 down. He WAS therefore used as an impact sub in this respect. I have nowt against the bloke. I suspect he's good for morale and experience. But it would have been good, at that point in the Forest game, to have brought on a quick (young?) player to give the fans some excitement and to stir up some trouble for the Forest back line. On that subject, does anyone know if anyone of the younger lads are looking good enough? It really is a shame that we don't have that young striker in the academy that's knocking on the door of the first team. Someone who's fresh and vibrant and champing at the bit.
Harry - LCFC Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 He did get in the right position to score twice (or three times? I seem to remember two headers). Those chances came about because he's an intelligent player who got into the right position so you could argue that the right type of player was brought on. It was just poor finishing that meant the ball didn't go in but that has nohing to do with pace.
Captain... Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 No issue with bringing on GTF when we are chasing the game just not at the expense of Dyer, Knockaert or Schlupp, that was what baffled me about the substitutions against Forest.

He was, and to be fair, Harry's rightly pointed out that he did have a couple of chances. Your post pretty much backs up why I think it's a winger we need. Taking Knockaert off for Hammond did half of Forest's job for them.
Danno Posted 21 November 2013 Posted 21 November 2013 Billy Sharp Wilfried Zaha (loan) Cameron Stewart Or get them all on loan in January if we can't sign them lol . Some people.
