Deucalion Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 before I go and stress myself out trying to fix a waterlogged fusebox in my Fiat Punto. First of all, after watching Forest on the Football League Show this morning, I got to thinking about our 'rivalry'. This rivalry may have been worth something in the past. Anyone over a certain age will recall that before Brian Clough changed the complexion of East Midlands football, the real rivalry was between Forest and Leicester. Unfortunately, this is before I was born, and as I'm getting on a bit, it must be before the vast majority of people on Foxestalk were born too. Therefore, why do we still value this rivalry? I am finding it increasingly embarrassing that we sing songs about Forest whether or not we are playing them. Nostalgia is very nice but it is also a negative phenomenon if it prevents one from moving on or appreciating the present. Does it really matter if we don't have a main rival? Over the time I have been watching, events on or off the pitch have led to temporary rivalries which have been pretty fierce without being related to locality. Another thought from watching Forest v Blackburn concerned Ben Marshall, or rather the song which took his name while he was here. Home advantage is a significant predictor of how football matches will turn out, even though there is no tangible reason why this should be so. Maybe there is some psychokinetic reason for this, such as 20k minds willing something somehow makes it more likely to happen. Or, it could be more about atmosphere. A recent game where the atmosphere at the KPS really seemed to effect the result of a game was Leicester v Hull a couple of seasons ago. We were winning by one goal and had a player sent off. The Ben Marshall song was being loudly sung and it seemed to effect the tempo of the game. Hull obviously wanted to push their numerical advantage and play a high tempo game, but the slow tempo of that song, sung for a large proportion of the second half, seemed to aid our defenders to stay calm, stay in control, and slow the game down to suit the side defending a lead. This game, in which that song was sung to such effect, also saw the introduction of the sub-line 'Ben Marshall'. What a shame that such an atmospheric song was attached to a player soon to leave and therefore no longer sung at the KPS. Anyway...out to try to fix a car !!

Vlad the Fox Posted 19 January 2014 Posted 19 January 2014 I've said the same thing about the Ben Marshall song. It seems to settle the players into a comfortable rhythm of football, I don't know how or why but we seem to calm down and relax when it's sung. We should get it going again, we don't have to put a name at the end.

Some how u don't think wd40 will fix any of these Mock if you must, but the Fiat Grande Punto has been very pretty, dirt cheap to run and totally reliable...until now. It's just taking on more water than a cruise ship with a randy Italian captain at the moment !!

All at the cost of most of the daylight hours of Sunday, one can of WD40 and the cost of running a hairdryer for an hour !! That's why my current car is a Fiat and my next one will be too. They are so reassuringly low tech ! I dread to think how much that would've cost if an auto-electrician had done it. To say I'm chuffed is an understatement !!
