Snow? We dont have snow

CITIES CAUGHT OUT COLD

In a country known for its sun and hot temperatures even in the deepest throes of winter, the appearance of snow was a surprise.

But large downpours of the white stuff have made records in southern Australia.

Thye cold snap has created the first snow in Melbourne since June 1986 , and first major falls since 1951.

In August, temperatures in Australia's second most populated city normally average 17C (63F) but are just 5.5C (42F).

And Hobart, state capital of Tasmania, is in the midst of its first snowfall for two decades.

Snow has also appeared across the southern state of Victoria and further north in New South Wales.

Philip King, from the Bureau of Meteorology said: "It was quite a severe front, it strengthened as it came up through Hobart and Victoria."

He said it was possible the freezing weather could even travel up to the normally simmering state of Queensland, although snow was unlikely.

First snow since 1986, unreal. :ermm:

Day After Tomorrow!

Its NOT all Global Warming now-ever!!! Do be fooled into thinking that.

Global Warming is playing a little little part

humans havn't been around long enough to judge the earths weather patterns properly. global warming caused by humans is not a real problem (imho); this carbon has always been around.

there is more credence to the "global COOLING argument" Did anyone see the Ch4 Doc on the subject... very interesting and scary..

basically on the days following 9/11 when there were NO aeroplanes in the sky the earth was 2 degrees wrmer, cos the sun could get in basically, planes cause a barrier and the earth doesnt get the sun... basic argument but you get the gist.

Can someone explain to me, I am confused having only cared about the weather when deciding whether to stick a jacket on or not.

I was under the impression Global Warming was virtually fact, from all the articles in the newspapers and on the news. Should I be stocking up on winter clothes or summer?

that depends on whether the melting ice caps cause the sea/salt levels to decrease so much that the gulf stream stops working, if that happens then you wanna get yourself some thermals. if not, then get yourself a thong

some scientists say that the sun is just hotter

The sun is 4.5 billion years from death.

What we going to do then ;)

Snow in Queensland? Erm, no chance.

Well.....

to cut a very long story short.

Global Warming is happened and is having an effect BUT what we are seeing could just be a natural cycle of the earths climatic changes.

We are entering a new ice without ever coming out of one!!!!!

After all we are due a change and the new ice age seems a theory which has supporting evidence behind it

Cheers!

The seed was sown whilst watching archaealogical programmes on the Discovery Channel, and it has been said on several that Ice Ages occur at fairly regular intervals, and we are due one within the next few thousand years. It might seem like a long time, but in terms of the bigger picture, it's just around the corner!

Arctic could see ice-free summers in 100 years

Ice-free summers--a phenomenon that hasn't occurred in the Arctic in a million years--could become a reality in a century because of warming trends, researchers said.

Looking at data on the rate of ice melt in the Arctic, researchers from the University of Arizona and other universities concluded that the rate is accelerating and that no foreseeable natural forces will counteract that acceleration. As a result, ice-free summers loom.

Theres more...

Dont think we`ll be moaning about the weather being too cold in 100 years, oh damn, i wont be here ;) still, it will get warmer as my latter years go on, hmm.

Not necessarily. At some point (we don't know when, but it could be as early as 20 years from now, or less!) the current of the gulf will "switch off" - thus stopping its conveyor belt effect which brings warm water from Central America... so England will become much colder with lots of snow and cold... brrr... Even France and neighbouring countries will be affected. In fact, the whole planet will be affected.

So we'll need to wrap up warm in the end!!!
