AoWW Posted 2 April 2014 Posted 2 April 2014 Breaking News: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime/shooting-reported-fort-hood-military-post-texas-article-1.1743544 Hope it doesn't turn out to be as serious as it seems.
leicsmac Posted 3 April 2014 Posted 3 April 2014 Right to bear arms + wholly inadequate, ludicrously expensive mental health care = Interesting Times. An equation the US is reasonably familiar with by now, I think.
Jon the Hat Posted 3 April 2014 Posted 3 April 2014 Sad that even in the best funded military in the history of the world mental healthcare is poor enough that this can happen.
goose2010 Posted 3 April 2014 Posted 3 April 2014 Its so sad to keep hearing about these shootings. Its happened at this base before as well. 3 Dead 16 injured this time apparently. 13 died and over 30 injured last time. Dont get me wrong I'm not Piers Morgan's number 1 fan but he was definitely right when it comes to gun crime and shootings. Something needs to happen but I just cant see it ever happening it would have to come from the president and even then I cant see it ever stopping.

Something needs to happen but I just cant see it ever happening it would have to come from the president and even then I cant see it ever stopping. It's too ingrained in the national psyche. The President who tried to put forward a measure like it would probably end up impeached. The only thing that can really be done to prevent this kind of thing occuring is to ensure that the mental health of people handling such weapons is secure and ready access to mental health treatment is available. Sadly due to the horriffic nature of the American healthcare system as a whole (but that's another debate) that'll never happen either.
