Statement of Intent

Everyone understands that next season will be tough. We will go on loosing streaks and hope of Premiership survival could dim on many different occasions.

I guess my question is that if it looks like its going downhill, who will stand by NFP? Are people willing to go down with him at helm or will you endorse a change?

Personally the worst thing I could anticipate would be to change manager. That manager then spends millions in January and we go back down with more debt than we started with and a manager who is clueless about where to make the next step.

Personally, I will philosophically accept relegation if it comes to it. Provided of course that we maintain this forward step - which i am confident would be the case under Big Nige.

Time to put your cards on the table people.

I'd take stability more than anything. NFP has got a good squad ethic who all respond to HIS management skills. This is his squad, if they don't work well under him they won't work well under anyone. I want Nigel to stay no matter what happens.

It depends, if we are competitive in every game, and the performances aren't reflected by the results then I would stand by Pearson. If our players stop fighting and trying and we look going down without so much as a whimper and NP, starts talking like Holloway did this season for palace, he was a beaten man and didn't have the belief in himself and the players didn't have the belief in him. Then it is time to go.

But if we go down fighting, I would believe he could take us back up and we would be stronger for it.

Any manager who takes a club up deserves a fair crack at keeping the club up in the next season. If we find ourselves struggling at the bottom of the table next season, which might well be the case, it won't be because Nigel Pearson has suddenly become a bad manager. It will be because we're a medium-size club trying to compete in one of the hardest, most competitive leagues in the world.

I'll be surprised if we do anything but struggle next season, but that doesn't mean relegation is inevitable, and it would be true whoever the manager was.

But what if we are struggling because Nigel bought a load of dross in the summer and was too stubborn to drop him?

Not saying he will, but this blind loyalty now is one thing, we are top unbeaten in 20.

I think saying you'll stand by someone regardless is as foolhardy as saying you won't ?? If, for example, we are being annihilated tactically, week in, week out, then the manager needs to address that. If he doesn't, then as fans we are entitled to express out displeasure. How the board respond to that sentiment is their call to make. Clearly, nobody wants change for the sake of it. And our current manager has certainly earned the right to have time to fathom it all out. But nobody has a job for life. No matter how much we'd all like that be the case.

I will support him - providing he keeps a grip on the players and the dressing room.

I'd want Nigel at the helm for the full season, I can see him doing a good job next year. The players will always give their all for him and I think we have a talented bunch who can make the step up.

It's not blind loyalty. I did say he would deserve a fair crack at it. Obviously circumstances could arise in the case of any manager where his conduct and performance might preclude his continuing in the role despite any previous achievements.

Liverpool could win the league this season but if Brendan Rogers decides to drop Suarez and Sturridge next season or starts dancing nude on the pitch before each home game, their fans would start to question his suitability as a manager.

I wasn't saying that there are simply no circumstances at all under which Pearson could ever be dismissed. But being involved in a relegation dogfight next year isn't among them. We should expect it and be prepared.
