The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 http://m.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-27100056 Anyone else thinking the Captain is being made to be a bit of a scapegoat in some respects? His reasonings for not giving the evacuation order seem pretty plausible to me.

His reasonings for not giving the evacuation order seem pretty plausible to me. ""The captain did not comply with passenger evacuation orders from the vessel traffic service... and escaped ahead of others while telling passengers to keep their seats. This is something that is never imaginable legally or ethically," she said." If that's true then I don't think he can be labeled a scape goat.

The Year Of The Fox Posted 21 April 2014 Author Posted 21 April 2014 I said in some aspects. If the currents were strong and the water cold he would've been sending people to their deaths anyway. Funny that when asking if other ships would be there to retrieve survivors there was no response
leicsmac Posted 21 April 2014 Posted 21 April 2014 Part of the Confucian hierarchy stuff is that everyone bows and scrapes to the guy above him and then the top guy (normally) takes the fall if something goes wrong. It's not exactly scapegoating, but just because of the system over here all of the bricks are going to fall on him. I'll be honest though, if I was on a ship that was in any imminent danger whatsoever of sinking I'd be out on the deck wearing a lifejacket, not somewhere indoors where I could get trapped, no matter what anyone said.
