Overseas forwards

Lakaku is a Chelsea player and Cisse had half a season and little else since.

The British players tend to do better.

Your argument seems a little short-sighted.  Your points are:

1. most teams recently promoted to the Prem have had more success signing strikers from the British leagues than from overseas leagues

2. there are some recent examples of strikers bought for high transfer fees from foreign leagues who have not performed well in the Prem

3. British-based players tend to do better than foreign-based players when brought into a PL side

As a result you say "I doubt we'll be purchasing a forward from outside the British leagues".

Scouting just does not work in this way.  You can't ignore a huge pool of talent outside the UK just because of a few bad transfers.

Scouts will not succeed by making overall sweeping observations about British-based versus Foreign-based players. Instead they will look at each individual player on his merits and pursue those that fit best with the club's needs and their style of play.

The forwards signed by promoted clubs tend to be the big, bustling type with experience of this league. I'd say Ulloa and Bendtner fit that bill perfectly.

well not really as Ulloa has no prem experience...

Well you can split hairs all you like, but he came to Chelsea, made a couple of appearances and was loaned out to West Brom. He was hardly a veteran of English football. Cisse's scored 30 in 88 appearances - hardly a bad return either.

And if we're going to split hairs - Holt, Campbell, Lambert and Long (in his West Brom days) weren't PL signings at all. They were players who were already at the clubs in question, so they can hardly be lauded as fine examples of British signings by promoted teams in the Premier League.

English players will always represent far worse value for money than foreign signings, so I for one hope that we look overseas rather than overbidding for players like Lambert. It seems like we're going to get the mix right anyway, with rumours that we're casting our eyes overseas, while bidding for Fraizer Campbell as well.

That league table that shows what the table would be if only English players scored suggests otherwise.

Ulloa apparently scored at least four goals against Leicester, Burnley and QPR this season, plus goals against all the three Prem sides that Brighton played against this season. What do you want to know about his ability. I make that at least 7 goals in 9 matches against current Premiership quality, or lets just say for absolute accuracy the top 23 teams in the country.

Sometimes reading this forum makes me think I’m some sort of undiscovered genius.

Here goes:

Some overseas forwards are good and do really well. Some do OK, without setting the world alight. And some are rubbish and a waste of money.

I think you'll find it is the type of player we can afford that are invariably rubbish.

Why talk about players from abroad and England, and compare them/ It doesn't matter where they come from, as long as they are the right players. There origins have nothing to do with it.
