One Legged Beaver Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Vlaar nearly scored his penalty... Would that have counted if it had rolled in?
StanSP Posted 10 July 2014 Author Posted 10 July 2014 Would that have counted if it had rolled in? Can't see why not. Unless Vlaar has touched it again when it came bouncing down, it should count had it rolled in.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 Fascinating today how such little has been made of Holland, this time crashing out on penalties. After the Costa Rica game, the forum (and the media) were full of praise for Van Gaal's ingenuity. A tactical master-class, no less. Today, no counter argument? Little mention of Holland's supposedly expert penalty takers, this time, misfiring. Little questioning on why Ron Vlaar took the first penalty? No mention of why Van Gaal didnt do the same thing this time with Krul. Penalties are not a lottery, people cried..they are tactical and full of psychology. Interesting how this time, the Dutch then can get it so wrong? I wonder whether the Man Utd fans who, following Costa Rica, were wetting themselves at the joy of Van Gaal's tactical prowess, have now reflected a little on that? I wonder? Discuss... Looks like Vlaar took the first as a couple others didn't have the balls too do so http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/argentina/10958201/Louis-van-Gaal-says-Ron-Vlaar-took-first-Holland-penalty-in-World-Cup-semi-final-shootout-as-team-mates-refused.html
Manwell Pablo Posted 10 July 2014 Posted 10 July 2014 If I had a pound for the number of times someone posted. . Col spouts drivel but... I'd have at least a pie and a pints worth, with change. You want to read what I put again, I wasn't accusing you of spouting drivel Although I suppose saying Roncreate had a bad game last night would definitely qualify as such. On another note not just aimed specifically at Col, this whole "Louis Van Gaal did this at the World Cup, Louis Van Gaal did that at the World Cup, therefore he is a bad/good manager" from certain posters on here Sounds like children in a fuking school yard trying to discuss nuclear physics to me, ill educated irrelevant garbage. The man has a fantastic club record and his feats at Ajax, Barcelona, and especially AZ , should not be over shadowed by any petty garbage surrounding what was a extremely unfancied Dutch side (most people had them down as likely group stage failures, including myself) getting knocked out in the semi final, on penalties, by Argentina. There is 20 years of club management behind Louis Van Gaal the fact that people are deciding to judge his ability as a manager on two knockout games of football makes me cringe. He could be an absolute disaster at Man U and he'd still be one of the best club managers in my lifetime. And if he succeeds in winning trophies (I don't think he will) he could quite possibly be the greatest. He'd of pretty much done it all.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 July 2014 Posted 11 July 2014 Execution is probably a far greater factor than the concept of luck.
