AyewJoking Posted 5 August 2014 Posted 5 August 2014 I hope your not serious. Nah. Just flushing your chain.
The Railway Man Posted 6 August 2014 Posted 6 August 2014 I think it's quite clear he is talking about the game in Thailand, no one really wants to do things like this (even more so when you have already spent a couple of weeks there a couple of months ago) but that's just the way football is these days, the commercial side has to be looked after as well. He isn't the first manager to complain about it and he won't be the last. He's a family well as well Nige, you don't get the impression he wants to be half way across the World twice in the summer months when he isn't in season.
MPH Posted 6 August 2014 Posted 6 August 2014 http://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/Leicester-City-face-MK-Dons-hectic-schedule-goes/story-22065556-detail/story.html Leicester City play the first of their back-to-back pre-season friendlies tonight when they travel to MK Dons. It has been an extremely hectic schedule for Nigel Pearson's men, who are in the middle of a run of three games in just four days, as they build up to their Premier League opener against Everton in 12 days' time. City face another trip to Rotherham tomorrow. Their clash against the Millers tomorrow will complete a spell of five pre-season games in the space of 10 days, starting with City's 1-0 victory against Everton, in Thailand. "We have got probably one too many games for my liking but that is how it is," said Pearson. "I would prefer to have more training-field time than playing games but we are slightly higher profile now and there is a need for us to play more games at times." Pearson will select one team to face MK Dons, while a completely separate side will take on Rotherham, allowing all the first-team squad to have a full 90 minutes of football before taking on Bundesliga side Werder Bremen at the King Power Stadium on Saturday. "If people then start making the assumption that the side that starts against Werder Bremen is the side that will start the Premier League, I think they will be getting ahead of themselves," said Pearson. ======= Not quite sure what to make of this. Pearson says he would've liked more time on the training pitch - is he not in charge of how and where the squad prepares for the season? Is he told where the team is needed (ie. a meaningless game in Thailand which could've been played in the UK - taking out two days' worth of traveling). Not a pessimist and don't want to read too much into this but strikes me a bit odd that Pearson would: a) Not be in full control of the team's pre-season schedule b) Go public with his criticism Am I looking into it too much? Just find it a bit odd. Sounds like a sideways dig at the Thailand trip to me...(Something which the owners will of organized) It's amazing how a million pound bonus can tone down your rhetoric.
Oxfordfox83 Posted 6 August 2014 Posted 6 August 2014 Excellent post DT. I'm sure we've had this conversation before? Any poster who doesn't toe the party line ie. Who doesn't constantly be positive and optimistic about whichever manager we have. Indeed.. anyone who dares to even question.. is labelled a troll by the usual suspects. The above was a better post (series of posts? ) by DT and fair play. Expected better from you though Col. DT wasn't criticising NP, so I hardly see that I wasn't toeing any party line in my response. Also, this isn't a case of optimism vs pessimism vs realism. So your post is nonsense, and might as well have been from a random post generator. What I objected to is the term 'problematical'. Why fight so hard for promotion if achieving your aim only brings you problems? Especially as in DT's past life, the intimation has been any achievement below the top flight doesn't count? It might be a hard season. It will certainly be a tougher season that last year, and we'll be beaten more, outplayed more and be under more pressure than we have for over a decade. So? I don't see that this season, even if it ends in relegation, will be problematic. We are a team that is improving, and the next stage in our improvement is to take a big step up in quality. Problems are things like having a manager who signs crap players on mega bucks, or having no cash at all to spend, or facing League One when you had hopes of the Prem. DT, I apologise for 'troll', which in this case was excessive. I disagree with your interpretation of NP's comments, and think 'problematical' is a ridiculous word to choose. Col, I think you should have reread my post before you posted yours.
Bayfox Posted 6 August 2014 Posted 6 August 2014 I think we can all work out the game in thailand would not be pearsons idea and he could do without it, all that way for 1 game. but nfp, that my friend is the shit you have to do, to allow you to spend 8 million quid on a 3 million player.
