Rincewind Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 anyone watching it? Under the FOI act it has been revealed that public service consultants are being paid 2k a day and they are not sure what they do. Nice job if you can get it. I should apply Lamby.
Webbo Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 What do you expect from the public sector? The taxpayers are paying the bill so who gives a fvck?
Alf Bentley Posted 7 August 2014 Posted 7 August 2014 What do you expect from the public sector? The taxpayers are paying the bill so who gives a fvck? I think you're missing the point, Webbo. As a "money-saving measure", the Tory coalition government has been cutting civil service posts and holding down pay. They're now finding that they haven't got the staff to do the work that they want done, not least as some of those with the most marketable skills are leaving for higher-paid equivalent jobs in the private sector....... So large numbers of private-sector consultants are being contracted to do the civil service work at much higher rates than the civil servants were paid, thereby wasting much more money than was saved by cutting civil service payroll expenses! Just to clarify: the public sector is under the control of the (Tory) government.
Rincewind Posted 7 August 2014 Author Posted 7 August 2014 I thought you cared where the tax money was going? If it is being wasted then it could have been used for something else. NHS Schools help for the disabled and sick not squandered away The computer that was set p for Universal credit does not work costing a few million to the tax payer. But never mind they can recover it from the poorest.
ADK Posted 8 August 2014 Posted 8 August 2014 The government is happy to launder public money into the hands of private companies. If anything goes wrong they can say "well what do you expect from the public sector".
Finnegan Posted 8 August 2014 Posted 8 August 2014 What do you expect from the public sector? The taxpayers are paying the bill so who gives a fvck? Er, what? A vast majority of the public sector is making catastrophic cuts and changes to public services in order to save taxpayers money. I'm sorry but that attitude is a little bit ten years ago.
Webbo Posted 8 August 2014 Posted 8 August 2014 The govt didn't start using consultants in 2010 , because despite massive over manning in the public sector , they still don't have anyone who can do the job. The people in charge of reorganising the civil service are civil servants and turkeys don't vote for Christmas.
Alf Bentley Posted 8 August 2014 Posted 8 August 2014 In the distant past, I've worked for the public sector. Been in the private sector for 15-20 years now. I can exclusively reveal that both public and private employ hardworking/inspired people and lazy/incompetent people. I'd say there probably is a difference of approach: more thorough, but more cautious in the public sector; more dynamic, but more risk-taking in the private (though a lot depends on the individual/company/department)...each would probably benefit from being a bit more like the other, but better that public should be a little more cautious and less dynamically risk-taking with public funds.
