So, where's it gone?

Last season we went a goal down and I was pretty confident we'd come back, we'd come back and not just draw but win, we had that mentality, Ok we were in the Championship an 'easier' league against 'easier' teams.

But start of this season we went 1-0 down against Everton, instantly hit back, went 2 down, and got it back, fighting all the way up to the last kick, when we could have won the game really!

We lost at Chelsea but we gave them one hell of a game but even a 1-0 we kept on fighting and thought we were always capable of coming back. Unfortuntely they scored a 2-0 and wrote the game off.

Went 1-0 down the Arsenal, I always had belief we could get something for the game.

Even going 2-0 down the bloody Man Utd, I knew we were capable of getting it back to atleast 2-2, I admit when it went 3-1 I thought it was all over but I always had a belief we would come back and we never stopped fighting.

Ever since that i've not seen us fight once, I've never had the feeling or belief we could come back and atleast nick a draw, we went 1-0 down yesterday and I knew the game was over. The same goes for the games against Palace, Newcastle and Swansea, we just knew it was game over when we conceded, we need to get the mentality of fighting back, hitting back almost instantly (Not always possible and not that easy I know, but we need to get the mentality back).

Seems the good old days are back when Leicester City ruin my weekends, fantastic, please change this City!

Nothing has gone. Do you really think the team weren't trying to equalise yesterday? Why would they suddenly stop trying or 'fighting'.

Let's analyse the season, so far:

In retrospect, it was probably good that we played the so-called 'stronger sides' early. We were still buoyed from our promotion, fresh to the Prem and eager to get at em. Conversely, Everton and Arsenal were still working out their best teams and taking some time to settle down. We played well against both, and drew, at home.

Against Stoke, by all accounts, we really should have lost that game. We were pretty much battered, however, hung on and got the winner.

The Man Utd game was fantastic...but one of those freak games where nothing could have been predicted. It literally could have gone either way but it was us that came out strongest, Utd faltered and we struck. Again, they were 'settling down' to some extent.

Now, the league is starting to settle down and to take shape. Ourselves, Burnley and QPR are struggling, as the newly promoted sides, to learn quickly about the pace and strength of the Premiership. The likes of West Brom, Swansea and Newcastle, are showing to be far from 'pushovers'. Even at home to Burnley, we huffed and puffed but demonstrated that there are to be no easy fixtures in this division.

It's time for a reality check..... We still do not know what our best team is. We still don't know how to best play in terms of formation. And the realisation has set in, both amongst the players and the fans, that the Premier League is a top, top standard of football. If you lose a few, you can be right back down at the bottom and in a dog-fight.

To compare it to the Championship (and THIS is the main point, for me), if we were still playing in the second tier it's likely that our next game would have been against a team like Barnsley, or Yeovil, or Huddersfield. We would have known that we could probably stop our losing run against a team such as these. However, in the Prem, our next outing is away to the Saints. Well I can't see us picking up anything at St.Mary's...can you?

This season was always going to be tough. It's tough back in the Prem for any newly promoted side. I think our problems are three-fold. Firstly, we've not bought too well in the summer. Unlike West Ham, who signed Creswell, we have not bothered to strengthen at left-back. Secondly, with the players we have at our disposal, Pearson is 'tinkering'..why? Because he clearly does not know his best side. Finally, this under-estimation of our opponents this season... I simply do not agree (and never have) that the bottom half of the Prem is really no better than the top half of the Championship. Give or take one or two sides, I think it's miles stronger.

So no, I don't think its about 'fight' or determination to succeed. I think it's about overall ability. It could be that we are proving to be just not good enough. I hope I'm wrong, but I can't for the life of me see where our next points are coming from.

First and foremost, Pearson has got to get a settled team and a settled way of playing..if he doesn't do this soon it could all go pear shaped and he could lose his job.

Praps it would help if fans got behind the team and stopped fvcking moaning.

Not saying you Matt but the reaction after the man u game was ridiculous Champions league FFS.

Then a poor result against palace and the moaning started.

Last week one idiot starts topics slagging off Wes yet seen very few complaints about him till then.

Ulloa was next again only complaints about him till that point were him not getting service (not that that is a complaint about him)

From a money point of view we must have the second cheapest/weakest squad.

Most after last season thought that squad was good enough for this league with a few editions  and were happy with it at the start.

Drinky James and then Vardy for England no not really but the over hype from last season was enough for some.

Yes we had a great start but have now been found out as often happens.

So for the rest of the season it is going to be a case of grinding out results and what points we can for the players.

For the fans it is Grow Up smell the coffee time and support and back your fvcking team.

Do what fans are supposed to do and support your club and stop the endless slagging off of a team 6 weeks ago you all thought were going to be in Europe next season.

Good thoughtful posts in this thread. Whilst I can't deny the reality of this poor run, it's also the case that we're for the most part competitive, Swansea excepted, but losing key moments, namely:

the James foul v Burnley

the James miss v Toon

the King header yesterday.

Different outcomes on those three moments might feasibly have led to 6 more points.

The margins are that fine

I think alot of the fans have lost the never quit attitude tbh . Can not think of one player people have not written off or " quit " on over theses last few games . Really is true that there is no loyalty in football  sad really .
