Louise Posted 11 October 2004 Author Posted 11 October 2004 And he's gone... Micky Adams resignsLeicester City manager Micky Adams has tendered his resignation. Adams will be speaking at a press conference at 12 noon today. Leicester City Football Club are making a statement today after manager Micky Adams tendered his resignation. Adams's two-and-a-half year spell in charge at the Walkers Stadium brought two relegations from the Premier League, and a promotion to it. But recently the team has suffered a string of bad results amid reports of dressing unrest. Members of Club's board have been in talks since early this morning after Adams offered his resignation over the weekend. Adams has been under increasing pressure over the club's performance since the start of the season. His offered his resignation once before at the height of the La Manga crisis but it was turned down and Adams was given his full backing by the club. Sheffield-born Adams came to Leicester as Dave Bassett's assistant manager a couple of years ago after resigning from Brighton. He took over as Leicester boss in April 2002 after being groomed by Bassett to take over as the Foxes boss. He went on to take City to the Premier Division. But the team were relegated at the end of the 2003/04 season. BBC Radio Leicester's John Sinclair said Adams had been under pressure for some time. He said: "There are a lot of unhappy fans out there who have no confidence in him. They have been asking for a change for some time." The Leicester City board have been in talks since early this morning. A full statement is expected at a press conference at 12 noon today. http://www.bbc.co.uk/leicester/content/art...s_feature.shtml
Scow Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Hmmmm, I wonder if Bassett et al will go with him..... Probably not - Dave Bassett as new Leicester City manager (albeit temporarily)
Anish Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 It's sad but it had to happen. Thank you Micky for resigning and not making the club sack you.
Scow Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 It's sad but it had to happen. Thank you Micky for resigning and not making the club sack you. 25541[/snapback] I can only echo those sentiments. I'm thankful for the job he did in 2002/2003, but all things must come to an end....
Ric Flair Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Bloody hell Scowy, your up before 12? Something must of happened!!! Cheers for all you've done Micky, no hard feelings mate. A change was needed as certain things have happened that have made it impossible for you to succeed at this club. All the best in the future. Strachan please.

SilverFox Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Thanks for all you've done Micky. You were a legend. Shame we can't live in the past when we looked like a team under your management. Change however was for the best...its sad, but we lost the faith
Ric Flair Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 It will be John Gregory I imagine. Whoever it is, I am going to get behind them 100% as that's what we need now. I know that sounds hypocritical, but Adams got my support for a long, long time and it was inevitable he was going a few months ago. Bassett needs to go now and then we'll be fresh to re-build.

Steven Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Sky sports have told me that he has gone. :w00t:
Ric Flair Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Apparently they will appoint a successor at 12pm today aswell! Well that means it's either Bassett/Corky or Dublin/Keown. **** off I would welcome Gregory over those.

Ric Flair Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 Not sure how I feel about Bassett to be honest, I knew they would choose him short term but what happens if it's for atleast the rest of the season? Bassett's plus points: Know's how to get out of this league Will play youngsters, proved that when he was in charge at City Saves the security guards having to stay around to lock the ground up at night because when Bassett gets talking there's no stopping him. 'Turn the lights off Dave when you've finished' Erm that's about it. Negative points: HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOF
Scow Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 I would imagine he will be a short term option until we find another successor - Which is not really surprising. However, the board may spring a surprise on us with Keown, but that would be highly unlikely. Might explain why Adams was absent at Peterborough on Friday - Maybe preparing Cork for what is to come?
Steven Posted 11 October 2004 Posted 11 October 2004 To my way of thinking the worst case scenario would be to appoint someone from the current "backroom staff". We need fresh blood. <_<
