Rab Douglas

Just heard on Radio Leicester that Levein has confirmed his interest in signing Rab Douglas. MON has said that a few teams are interested.

Oh no, sweet mercy.

Having seen this buffon and his calamitous goalkeeping across Europe following Scotland this is bad news. I hope to God that CL and his team can knock out of him the crapness that MON couldn't.

Just looking at what Scotland fans think of him, doesn't make for good reading...

I saw that the other week - not good but at least one or two rate him.

Doesn't look good does it? Levein seems intent on signing some truely shocking players to outweigh the good one's he's signed in McCarthy, Maybury and Hughes!

I must say that before we were linked with Douglas i'd always thought he was a top class keeper and have seen him 2 or 3 times and he's looked good. But Scotland and Celtic fans have seen him more than me and they seriously don't rate this fella. How can Levein think otherwise?

I'll reserve judgement, but there's nothing worse than having an inconsistent goal keeper. Also he's ****in old aswell!!

He seems to be poor with crosses, thus commanding his area - something that we need to sort out. Still some think he's not bad and O'Neill's been playing him.

Leicester City have made a contract offer to Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas to fill the breach left by the departure of Ian Walker.

And City are considering an offer for another Celt, the versatile Momo Sylla who was training at the club last week.

Douglas is currently in the Parkhead side as they aim to close out the Scottish Premier League title.

But the Scotland international is out of contract in the summer and City boss Craig Levein had made earlier contact with him as a contingency plan for Walker leaving.

Levein has now stepped up the process by putting an official offer of terms on the table.Whether Douglas accepts or not remains to be seen, but Levein is hopeful and it would alleviate some of the pressure on what could be a problem position.

Levein is also impressed with the adaptability of midfielder Sylla, but he is under contract with Celtic for another year although the word is that Martin O'Neill is set to agree a severance deal at the end of the season.

Levein said: "We have made the offer to Douglas and it is now up to him.

"The situation regarding Sylla is a bit different because he is still under contract and he is bound to have other offers to consider, but I am hopeful we can do something there.

"He can play in a number of different positions and that is what we are going to need next season."

think some perspective is needed here guys whatever people say a guy who has played in the UEFA cup final and won numerous league titles cannot be that bad a player! i don't care that some people who follow scottish football say he's crap you ask any english football fan and they'll tell you ian walker is one of the worst goalkeepers of all time. we all know he isn't but once people get tarred with the 'he's shit' tag then mud sticks and people only look for the mistakes rather than the good saves a keeper makes.

levein obviously rates him and o'neill obviously did at one point too so lets at least wait to see a) if he comes and b ) how he plays before judging him.

Different clubs have different expectations. Douglas has played in some very high-profile games, the scale of which won't be seen during his potential time with Leicester. Rangers fans don't rate Stephen Hughes and Celtic fans certainly don't rate Momo Sylla but you have to remember that these players are vying with players of the quality of Magnus Hedman, Barry Ferguson and Stilian Petrov, not Joey Gudjonsson, Lars Hirschfeld and Danny Tiatto!

The guy is out of contract and has played at the top level, I think we should be pleased we are still able to compete for players like this rather than average Championship players.

Let's wait and see what he's like before judging him. At this rate he'll be vilified as soon as he makes a mistake.

I think he would be a good signing although I would prefer Stuart Taylor mainly because of his age. But never the less, Rab is a good keeper...

The vast majority of you are right when you say wait and see before judging as you haven't seen him on a regular basis before.

However, I reserve the right to be more than sceptical as I have watched the diddy eff it up on more than one occassion. <_<

From the BBC...

Leicester City are still waiting to hear whether Celtic goalkeeper Rab Douglas is interested in a move - six weeks after offering him a contract.

Foxes manager Craig Levein told BBC Sport that he is also hopeful of a deal to sign Momo Sylla after the Celtic utility man impressed on trial.

Scotland international Douglas is out of contract at the end of the season and has not been offered a new deal.

Sylla has a year of his contract left but has been told he can leave Celtic.

The Ivory Coast-born 28-year-old moved to the Scottish champions for £650,000 in 2001 after impressing in the St Johnstone defence.

He has also played in midfield and attack under Martin O'Neill but made only nine appearances this season.

Douglas, who moved to the Glasgow club from Dundee for £1.5m in 2000, has been in and out of the Celtic team this season.

But the 33-year-old has won his international place back from club-mate David Marshall and Hearts' Craig Gordon.

Nice to know he's keen.

If he's taking so long to decide it doesn't show any sort of enthusiasm.

I don't want him here to be honest, but if he comes I'll give him a chance to prove himself and win us over.
