Knighton Matt Posted 11 May 2005 Posted 11 May 2005 If he's taking so long to decide it doesn't show any sort of enthusiasm. I don't want him here to be honest, but if he comes I'll give him a chance to prove himself and win us over. 106931 think you've hit the nail on the head anish certainly seems to be the consensus of most of the fans.
Shum Posted 11 May 2005 Posted 11 May 2005 Spot on Anish, as I said on the OS earlier... He has made a few howlers in his time, as did Walker, Pressman etc. I am willing to see how it goes, and at the end of the day, we maybe getting an International keeper for free.

davieG Posted 12 May 2005 Posted 12 May 2005 Levein 'He's had his ups and downs but Rab is an excellent keeper. He's vastly experienced and would not be fazed by playing in front of 30,000 fans for Leicester.''

SilverFox Posted 12 May 2005 Posted 12 May 2005 Its like for like IMO! About the same age as Walker, and probably as good! Remember not too long ago there were people on here being critical of Walker who has also made mistakes...but find a keeper that hasn't made any! If he comes down give him a chance. For that matter, anyone wearing the blue of Leicester should be given a warm reception by the fans! This booing culture of our own players is pathetic

SilverFox Posted 12 May 2005 Posted 12 May 2005 But other than that there isn't hardly anything between them. Same age, have made mistakes (haven't we all), but are both decent! I guess all I'm saying is try to resist the urge to be pathetic and boo your own players (obviously not you Davie)

We've had crap players before and we will have them again, only since the departure of O'Neil we've had so many it's become endemic to our club culture to boo anyone having a bad spell even when they're are having a reasonably game. Some players just get a 'bad' reputation and they can't shake it off, whilst others can be having a stinker run of games and people excuse them because of who they are. Besides even if it's deserved it's serves no purpose whilst the game is in play as you have at best a 50/50 chance of making the situation better or worse, so what's the point? I believe it's the antithesis of clapping when we are doing ok, it's just lazy support (clapping) or disapproval (booing).
Ricey Posted 12 May 2005 Posted 12 May 2005 Douglas seems to make most of his mistakes against the better sides on the big occasion, he shouldn't have that problem with us
Little Nicky Posted 12 May 2005 Posted 12 May 2005 Bugger me, we're shaping up to be quite a decent SPL team! Wait....aren't we in England!? Fix up CL, please I beg you go for Stuart Taylor, he's got a future!
Steven Posted 12 May 2005 Posted 12 May 2005 Douglas seems to make most of his mistakes against the better sides on the big occasion, he shouldn't have that problem with us 107276 What if we get promoted. Almost every game every week will be a big occasion.
BartonFox Posted 13 May 2005 Posted 13 May 2005 All this go for Stuart Taylor stuff, do you not think there is a reason that CL is not pursuing him? Perhaps there was a problem and that is why we didn't extend his stay. Do we know if he actually enjoyed his time here? Quite clearly CL turned his attention to Douglas ( <_< ) not long after Taylor was here. Therefore I would suggest we drop the hope in Taylor arriving as clealry there is no possibility.
Chandler Posted 13 May 2005 Posted 13 May 2005 For once I am in total agreement with Barton. Rab Douglas would be the greatest pile of steaming hot poo ever to be dumped at the Walkers. Worried? We should be! Consider the evidence: 1) For much of his career at Celtic Park he played scond fiddle to a CONVERTED keeper (Jonathon Gould). 2) Eventually ousted from the No 1 slot by an 18 year old (David Marshall). Usually keepers fail in their judgement (when to come, when to collect, positional sense, arranging defence etc) and compensate with their shot stopping abilities. Believe me, Rab cannot compensate for his frequent and dreadful lapses as he is about as agile as a pregnant pig. Scotland (like Brazil) has had a long honourable tradition in crap keepers (because Scottish kids never wanted to play in goal). Rab Douglas looks like being the latest in a long list of immortal clowns. You never know;he might even emulate the late (?) great Frank Haffey. Who he? The hapless flapper between the sticks when England beat Scotland 9-3 at Wembley in the early '60's. He had to live with the nickname 'Quarter-Past-Nine' ever after. And what does all this say about CL's judgement eh Barton?
Guest Posted 13 May 2005 Posted 13 May 2005 Even the Mighty MON made poor signings; Graham Fenton springs to mind.
Ric Flair Posted 13 May 2005 Posted 13 May 2005 Didn't O'Neill sign Rab anyway? So what does that say about Martin Chanderpaul?
foxes_fan Posted 13 May 2005 Posted 13 May 2005 From what i have heard, the Celtic fans do not rate him at all! So i don't know about this one.
SilverFox Posted 13 May 2005 Posted 13 May 2005 I would rather have someone younger, but I'm not going to berate someone before they have even had a chance to make a save. Taylor would have been great, but I doubt we can afford him, and I doubt he would want to come here permanently! I still reckon hes similar to Walker so we haven't lost much, just traded like for like!

Born in England but an Arsenal legend who went to play for the country of his parents. You never know;he might even emulate the late (?) great Frank Haffey. Who he? The hapless flapper between the sticks when England beat Scotland 9-3 at Wembley in the early '60's. "Nearly ten past Haffey!"
Bilko Posted 13 May 2005 Posted 13 May 2005 Believe the Celtic fans...Douglas is poor...he lost them the UEFA Cup final...he will make mistakes consistently hence him being off loaded...we can surely do better than this.

The death of his daughter to cancer unfortunately turned him into a semi recluse. Bob only played for Scotland because he couldn't break into the England squad. He was a decent keeper but not a great one. And he learnt his craft south of the wall. Best from north of the wall that I can recall: Simpson (Celtic 60's) Lawrence (Liverpool '60's) Goram (Rangers '90's). And none of these would have stood a chance of making the England squad. Not even for a friendly against Tuvalu.

TornadoShaunUK Posted 14 May 2005 Posted 14 May 2005 just been browsing one of the forums I go on and came across this post by a Celtic fan.. I think Celtic need a keeper. David Marshall is a good keeper but he cant handle having to play every week its been proven; basically becase hes not expierenced. Although hes starting to come back as a player. mentioning he thinks Cletic need a new goalkeeper.. no mention of Rab Douglas there, he must be freaking awful =/
