For ****s sake!

Duo Depart

Lars Hirschfeld and Stephen Dawson have parted company with Leicester City.

Canadian international goalkeeper Hirschfeld has been released after manager Craig Levein opted not to renew the 26-year-old's short-term contract following his move to the Walkers Stadium in January from Dundee United.

Hirschfeld made just one start for the Foxes first team and that came during the goalless draw at Plymouth Argyle on Sunday May 8.

Dawson (pictured above right) was offered on new one-year deal on reduced terms earlier this month but the 19-year-old midfielder has since turned down the package and as a result leaves the club after four years.

The Irishman had been a regular for the reserves and was an unused substitute in four of City's first-team matches during the 2004/05 campaign.

Levein said: "I'd like to thank both players for their contributions and they move on with our best wishes."

Meanwhile contract discussions with former England internationals Dion Dublin and Jason Wilcox are continuing.

I can't wait for all the Levein bashing to now begin......

Yay Chandler was right :nono:

Why was Dawson offered 'reduced' terms when he was closer to the first team squad than before? I must admit to being quite puzzled by this.

Cause we we haven't got as much money now as we did when he signed his last deal.

Pretty obvious really.

Someone on the OS has said the same as what I'm feeling to be honest, I only want players at the club who want to play for the club, and it would obviously mean that Dawson doesn't want to be at the club.

He is 19 and and not proven at any level, so I don't see why a club would offer him a mega deal, I can see him playing in L1 or L2 next season.

Never seen him play to be fair, but by accounts from other people looked a decent prospect.

Pfft, I'm sure we could have afforded to bump his wages up a little bit. He would hardly have been on much at all.

He'll be a big loss and means that we'll have to make one more signing rather than relying on our youth system - again.

I don't really see what all the fuss is about. We've got rid of a crap goalkeeper who was cover for the first team, and an unproven 19 year old that, by judging on the number of talented midfielders Leicester's youth system has produced in recent years, would have been at the best a Steff Oakes.

I know we havent got as much money, but I dont think thats the reason. Lets face it, if your 19 and you're offered a contract with terms less than what you were on before AND your sitting on the bench (if you're lucky), why on earth would you take it? <_<

If he doesn't want to play for us, and will only do so if we bump up his wages even though he is completely unproven at this level and CL obviously thinks Kisnorbo is better, he should piss off to a club that will pay him what he wants.

He obviously doesn't care about the club and isn't willing to work and prove his worth before getting his monitary rewards.

I'm disappointed, however, I can understand why Dawson has left if he was offered reduced wages. As Sam has pointed out, he would have hardly been on much, so it is a bit baffling as to why they've offered him a lower wage.

Jason Wilcox? Must be a joke, surely?

Bit disappointed with Dawson but like Cambridge fox said if i 19 and offered reduced wages and he cant have been on that much in the first place then I would be tempted to leave. I just hope he doesnt prove everyone wrong by becoming a really good player plying his trade in the premier. Means we have one less midfielder now for cover. We really are done to the bare bones. Why does Levein wanna keep Wilcox aswell!?!?

Lars Hirschfeld does leave one small mark in our history, we add another goalkeeper to the list of City goalkeepers who played for their country while at Leicester City.

Banks, Shilton, Keller, Walker, Hirschfeld

as he played against Portugal in March 05.

Walker didnt play for England while at city did he? Thought his last appearance was against Italy while Hoddle was manager.

Edited as he has been in the squad. ;)

Before we get too carried away we need to see who Levein brings in. Don't forget we're going to be seeing between four and six new players, as well as Kisnorbo. Maybe Levein has his eye on a player that's proven and better than Dawson.

Maybe Dawson received a good/better offer from another club?

The wage bill is going to be reduced again next season so this is the type of thing we need to get used to.
