Personally I think New Labour improved things to some extent but didn't roll back Thatcherism enough leading to us being totally screwed by the crash in 2008.

I think a lot of the nostalgia for the 90s is about the economy and society more than the pop culture. Obviously thatcherism had already started but it hadn't effected the country as much as now and for a brief period it seemed like we might be getting an alternative

Probably a result of globalisation as much as immigration. I've been to small towns in Bulgaria who have probably never seen an immigrant in their life where you can get relatively good Chinese or Italian food.

We had a good run and won the two biggest domestic trophies. Yeah we ****ed up afterwards but I wouldn't swap what we experienced for a few CL nights. Villa will have a good few years but the way English football is going they won't become a permanent member of the elite either.

The American becomes scared and confused when confronted with raw ingredients. I've seen this countless times in Italy. When presented with something simple but delicious and made with natural, quality ingredients, the American complains that it is "bland", "too dry" or "boring" and starts waxing lyrical about the 'food' from their culturally impoverished, violent backwater, by which they mean hyper-flavoured, greasy slop full of carcinogens.
