  1. I work at a UK uni and when the new rules came in (in 2022 I think?) we saw a big increase at our place and I believe many others of postgrad students who frankly had no interest in studying coming over with dependents. I think that's the uni's fault as much as the government tbh and it ended up with applications from one particular region not being accepted as it was so bad. Clearly that route was being massively abused. I think from figures I saw recently visas for family members are down like 90% but for students overall it's like 15-20%, so I don't think honestly it's going to put off too many genuine students. I agree with obsession over numbers but 3/4 of a million net is obviously a pretty huge figure and whether those people are coming for work/study/love whatever they still need to find places to live, use public services etc.

  3. Pint of Tower Ale which is apparently a collaboration between Hook Norton and Everards. In the Spoons near Chancery Lane which I've decided is the most civilized pub in London.
  4. I mean it's quite a different crowd to Clerkenwell and Angel. Most of the women are over 50 and half of those seem to be lesbians.
  5. The Robin was opened by the guy who used to run the Southampton Arms I think. The Magdala is one I often go to. Really nice pub. Black Lion in Kilburn is very beautiful but the beer isn't amazing imo and it has the downside of being in Kilburn.
  6. The Greek stuff? Very nice. Quite fancy popping down to watch the Forest game but just realized I've booked tickets for an exhibition that evening. Will try and sneak out for the 2nd half.
  7. Migration massively increased in 2022 and 2023 because of deliberate government policy. This year I think there's been a drop in visa applications by family members of international students because of a rule change introduced by the last government. We've also seen a big change in where migrants come from, from EU to non EU, again because of deliberate policy. We can manage migration. Politicians and voters will claim otherwise and point fingers at international bodies because they don't want to be blamed.
  8. I think with the ECHR as with the EU it's just a way for crap British politicians to blame someone else for their failings. Jenrick was immigration minister ffs.
  9. Confused boomers believe anything with the word 'European' in is a plot against Britain.

  11. Or the Persian Wars. A stunning upset against a technically superior but complacent and tactically-poor opposition led by a man who couldn't match the achievements of his predecessor.
  12. Interesting story. Entered the country illegally after being denied asylum in France and Germany. "Lost" his identity documents. Within months of arriving committed assault, then committed a further five offences of assault. But was somehow still in the country and free to try and kill someone on the tube. Great stuff.
  13. I have some news for you.
  14. Thanks. I genuinely didn't know much about her other than she appears to be quite popular amongst conservatives and the couple of times I'd seen her speak she seemed like a decent enough communicator compared to the last two leaders.
  15. I fully expect her to lean into the whole "wow disagreeing with a WOC, not a good look yeah"
  16. isn't that like half the electorate now
  17. I don't really follow these things that closely but why is Badenoch seen as a really bad candidate? I don't think she's especially bright but she seems quite normal compared to e.g. Truss or Johnson and says a lot of things that seem popular across the country.

  20. I don't think it's a post covid thing, it's been like this for years. We are at the end of the day still a very Anglo Prot country where pleasure and luxury are looked down on especially if it's assumed the person hasn't grafted for it
