  1. Finally got round to starting Stranger Things. 5 episodes in and loving every minute so far!
  2. Good reply. I can see it from the other side, how he was brought up being kind of brainwashed, but the payout and official government apology is ridiculous. It's potentially set a dangerous precedent now.
  3. Has anyone else seen (the lord and saviour MKII (not Corbyn)) Trudeau agreeing to pay $10.5 million damages and an official Government apology to Al Qaeda terrorist who killed and blinded another US soldier via grenade attack in Afghanistan. Genuinely baffled and shocked. The argument is that the attacker was 16. However, that's fighting age and he hadn't been plucked off the street and forced to do it, he'd been training with them for years prior to the event, and now, gets rewarded. With regards to the Obamacare repeal. I think we all knew it was destined to fail. As bad and harsh as Obamacare has been for many, Trump's team have failed to deliver a viable solution. Simply removing Obamacare and starting from scratch isn't an option, you need a definitive plan with thought out pro's outweighing the con's to get it through. I'll admit, it's very far from being my forte though and something I don't know huge amounts about.
  4. There's a hell of a lot we disagree on, but I'm 100% with you on this. I wanted to do an apprenticeship (or similar), but got coerced in to A levels and Uni which was a waste of my time long term.
  5. Yea sorry Davie, I wasn't insinuating you you were starting a debate, I merely added that on the end as I don't really have time for getting in to one (with whoever may have replied etc). That's a valid point and I can see where the questions are coming from. Unfortunately, I don't know 100% where the money would have come from, and it is quite a sum of money, but I can only assume savings have been accumulating in the anticipation of a new building, government grants and also investments in to the building which will be more than paid back because of the efficiency of the building etc. universities also recieve huge amounts of money from donations, businesses etc. EDIT: 2 quick articles outlining some of the money spent and earned by Universities. http://www.universitiesuk.ac.uk/blog/Pages/what-do-universities-spend-their-money-on.aspx https://www.theguardian.com/education/2016/mar/03/tuition-fees-england-universities-surplus-balance
  6. To be fair, the new building is at the forefront of the Passivhaus movement and the carbon reductions from a general 'new build' are ridiculously good. If it (unfortunately) wasn't so expensive to do, all buildings should be built to similar standards. In that regard, the regulations are constantly getting tighter by roughly 10% per year, so perhaps within our lifetime, buildings with such effective carbon reduction techniques may be commonplace. The fact it's seen as a vanity project at the moment is simply because of the price and the look. Paying the extra money up front for that will be repaid over the buildings lifetime. I'm not starting a debate, just giving another side to the argument btw
  7. at some getting wound up about Stormzy & Lukaku looking alike. They do. Jesus wept, get a life.
  8. classic tune anyway. im well behind this chant! now lets get him signed up!
  9. Ah right, well from the brief bits I've gathered thus far, Trump has taken some flack in general for saying that China etc need to step their game up. They do. The big players and especially NK's neighbours need to put the noisy kid back in the corner again, and whilst it may not seem it at the moment, I do still think that before things get TOO rough, China, Russia etc will have a word and but NK back in it's place, which we both agree on. Again, with my ignorance tonight....what is the US response? Calling for China etc to help? Direct threats to NK? Scratch that, I've gone back to re-read how it started again. It looks like Buce posted the BBC article regarding Trump's speech in Poland and commented about starting war. Now, anyone who has ever seen an American President knows you get backing, by warring. I don't like it, and it shouldn't be like that but money talks and so do voters and voters love a way. I then have to disagree with Nicks post about ineptitude about Russia and China helping out. They should ramp up their talks with NK, and it's in their interests to do so. Besides, they already know this, and Trump by saying that is just bravado to make America look like they're dictating things. Any other president would do the same I think. Inno's post was slightly wide of the mark, but it didn't seem to be 100% literal. The point still stood. People didn't seem to be annoyed at the fact that NK were progressing and pushing on with dangerous weapons that could threaten numerous countries. No, they were mad that Trump said something Have I described that right, from an attempted neutral-ish view? (Not saying you're being hugely biased or anything btw). Does that make sense at all? I'm not sure if I'm putting things down on paper as well as it seems in my head (damn wine) EDIT: I've re-read your response to the earlier posts and yea, NK probably know they would get battered by everyone. It's just grandstanding. Though it's very VERY close to going too far now, and i do think words need to be had. They've had their fun and flexed their muscles, but enough is enough. They can do their own thing, fine, but theres only so many times you can take the pi$$ and try someoes patience.
  10. Sorry mate, you'll have to excuse my ignorance. I came in to the debate later on than that when it had morphed in to something else so I don't actually know what Trump's tweet said (assuming its a tweet). My posts were mainly reactionary to what other people had said regarding other things or the progression of the debate (argument), rather than the original thing Trump said. I'd gladly give you my thoughts, as always, if you've got it to post up again or something? ( I won't lie, I can't be arsed to search for it, as I'm enjoying the wine too much ).
  11. Im in agreement regsrding your second paragraph. I've always thought the north Korea was all bluster and bluff. The second they appear serious, Russia, China and America would go to town on them if they had to.
  12. I appreciate that buce, but as above, I'm not in favour of it. I certainly would not have gone down that route
  13. To be honest, we can all agree on trumps Twitter antics and that they're not what the leader of a country like America should be doing. As noted below, I'm not in agreement with the wording of the Obama jobs but it does hold an element of truth. To say otherwise would be ignoring the obvious.how have you been wound up, prodded and poked? I accept we have differing views and yours are held very strongly, but it's become increasingly obvious that you have an inability to accept views outside of your box, which leads to to try to debate in what is quite frankly an antagonistic way alot of the time. If you cant see tje irony in the post og uours i quoted, then this tjread of comments need go no further. Its nothing personal and it might just be how I read things, but as I mentioned on the previous page, the way people like CNN and yes, fox, operate, is a cause for worry and is causing people to be outraged and further entrenched in their views. It really is a worry. For what its worth, i think fox is an awful outfit though currently not as bad as CNN. I said at the time it wasn't worded well and was more than close to the edge. Its not how id have worded it personally, but the overall point was still true. EDIT: forgive me for the awful grammar in there, stupid bloody phone And I really don't mean offence to anyone. As I've said, it might be how I read things, but I'm just calling it as I see it there. We're all Leicester fans at the end of the day so we're all family in that sense, no matter how we argue. Raising a glass or red now to us all
  14. It's quite bizarre now really. I've absolutely zero problem with people having differing opinions. Its healthy and it's part of life to explore these, regardless of the outcome. However, unfortunately, and increasingly so, there's a handful here lately who have become rather vocal and apparently personal, which doesn't add to the debate and simply backs up my previous points. I'd urge anyone who wants wants to throw insults or can't see another person's point of view to go a few pages back to see mine and @leicsmacs conversations/debates to see how two people with generally opposing views can actually talk and explore other views without resorting to name calling and terms like racist etc. That new, kinder politics eh?
  15. Irony. And further backs up my point about the over the top outrage
  16. Whilst that's still correct, I think it's important to have a correctly informed public who are also able to hold politcians etc accountable. We're seeing prtests, marches etc etc all the bloody time and when done properly and for a reason worthy enough, they carry weight. If/when the big one occurs, the people should be heard too, but the way things are carrying on now, the peoples voice loses power. I've probably not worded that great, as im on the phone at the same time, but i think you get my point. I think we're both near enough on the same page anyway...basically, the constant over the top reactions to things which probably dont warrant that much of a reaction, doesn't help anyone. Think it's time to nip out for a pint anyway. Look out for a drunken rant later
  17. Oh yea, there's no doubt he'll fvck up at some point, every president or pm does, but it then becomes a point if how it's handled. If this hysteria continues over tiny little things, when the big one comes, people just won't care because they've heard so much constant outrage and then you get the danger that he won't be properly held accountable etc. Its a worrying trend which is on the rise here too against the current government. The last few years have really put some huge chasms between people and their beliefs. Aggressive masculinity? thats another thing that does my head in, things like that. Was he asserting his white, CIS gendered male priviledge aswell? I've not seen that, but I'll keep a lookout. Once again, the hypocrisy continues.
  18. what the hell has been going on in here?! Some of the over reactions here are exactly what was feared and mentioned by some, including myself, after and since the election. Consider this ..... If every tweet and every single thing he says is met with hysteria and outrage turned all the way up to 11, what's going to happen when/if he really does fvck up and needs to be held accountable? There's nowhere to go from 11 and by constantly going over the top, you run the risk of desensitising people to it. Its like the boy who cried wolf. Some people and the media really should consider that. I think it's a genuine problem and cause for concern.
  19. Couple of brief updates. I won't be getting in to anything tonight, but may reply tomorrow if I have time. Following on from the Trumps vs CNN wrestling tweet thing..... (sorry to bring it up again). CNN 'investigated' and found out who they thought had created the gif/video, to then pretty much blackmail the guy, saying they'd out his real name etc if he did anything else similar. To be fair, the guy they highlighted had apparently posted some distasteful stuff before (though I haven't personally seen it, but a few places have said similar so I'll take that). However, it has since come out that the guy they've threatened isn't even the creator of said gif/video. Once again, CNN has shown itself up massively. All they needed to do was point and laugh at Trump about the tweet, saying how stupid it was (which it was), but instead they overreacted and have done themselves no favours. According to the latest Politico poll, 60% of voters now support the proposed temporary travel ban, compared to 28% against it. I'm still personally dubious over it, though, as usual, the hypocrisy of the outrage needs to be highlighted as the thing and the countries were originally created by the Obama administration with zero outcry. Kathy Griffin has now also been questioned by the secret service over her 'severed head' stunt. Surely that must be seen as inciting violence now? For what it's worth, my personal opinion is that that is going way too far, though it's good to see they are at least being consistent, as they did the same thing, questioning Ted Nugent in 2012 when he said "We need to ride in to that battlefield and chop their heads off in November", referring to the Obama administration. I admittedly hadn't heard that before, and I feel exactly the same way about that as I have argued against Griffin, Madonna etc. Reprehensible behaviour. Ciao for now!
  20. Boaty Mcboatface Rees-Mogg I wish I'd have misread and thought that myself. it certainly made me chuckle a little. He does love to pile up the names doesn't he! I quite like Alfred Wulfric actually, though I think any children of mine in the future would hate me for it, considering I've already quite a long Irish surname.
  21. In some nice news, congratulations are in order for The Mogg, as he's announced the birth of his sixth child named............ Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher Good ole' Mogg, what a legend. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-40506109 There's some seriously strong and old school names in there.
  22. Nope, I'm in South Leicestershire. It's probably because I've posted a fair bit in the Trump thread over the last 6 months or so. I've never even been over to the US, but do have friends over there and family in Canada.
  23. Similarly, I spent a week in North (ish) Wales a couple of weeks ago and the local pub doubled as a convenience store which I thought was a great idea. Even more so as the majority of the produce was locally sourced.
  24. Those are the type of people who need to be removed from the gene pool. I cannot stand that shit!
