I don’t know what to make of it, it’s looking like two teams that simply cannot defend for toffee, both carving eachother open like a hot knife through butter.

To be fair the comparison came to me as I was typing it, I was trying to think of a player who often did all the hard work then did the most predictable thing possible. Imo Saka is a good player and miles ahead of Lennon, but Lennon was known for his lack of end product. Sakas end product is far superior but relative to his overall ability imo it lets him down a lot. Saka for me often seems way too predictable but his sheer athleticism means it works. Hes made me look a complete moron this game though 🤣 but that’s not unusual 🤣

Saka reminds me so often of Aaron Lennon. So much talent but constantly let down by dumb mistakes and poor decision making.

I'm really hoping that in the coming weeks we will be able to tap up the likes of Arsenal/Man City for loan players, Enzo knows how the owners want to play, he knows how insane the facilities are, he knows Russell Martin is probably the best lower league manager in the country for coaching this style, it makes so much sense for possession teams to send us their best and brightest talents on loan.

Looked bang average for 70% of the games I've seen him in including for us. He was a player that gave you a bit of a boost when he got the ball because it always felt like he could maybe spark something, most of the time he ended up producing nothing. Obviously he's not expected to be putting in 8.5s against the likes of France/Netherlands, but his only good performances came against smaller teams, Brazil being the outlier yet they were awful all tournament. We bought him for a fair price, sold him for a fair price, can't see him going on to become the player he has the capacity to become. Another player who "on his day" in great, but his day comes once every 8 games.

I can't remember seeing anything like this? We've had bad teams in the past, but 9/10 they have always been teams with no money.

I know our hand is largely being forced, but the young players appear to be taking to Russell Martins style well so far. Most of our top performers have come from the Academy.

I would like to believe he will play a more attractive style of attacking-possession football, I doubt he will, but to be completely honest as much as I've been one of the ones incessantly complaining about the possession style, this season the style of play largely gets a pass from me, I'll probably talk about HOW we control the ball and whether we can do it more effectively, but from a pure philosophy, for me if it gets us promoted I just need to grit my teeth and accept it. There are multiple things we should judge Russell Martin on: - Style of play - Results - Player recruitment - Youth involvement - General command of the club and standards building If he can get the results, player recruitment, youth involvement and drive standards back to the club, he gets a free pass from me this season, we are on the cliff edge and I think annoyingly I need to be right behind him and the players to drive the club out of this mess. Once we get back to the Championship, if we start to slip or are in danger of going down again, then that's when I'll be on his back. It's literally all we have left

I’m torn on whether it would be harsh if Tuchel was sacked after this? We’ve looked resolute and we’ve been quite clinical, but we’ve also looked really average for large spells of games, often unable to break teams down with any sort of creativity. Tuchel has been phenomenal as an in game coach and he’s made some bold decisions like playing Spence who’s been fantastic, but then today he encouraged decisions that ultimately led to our collapse, and this result is obviously lands at the players doors, but Tuchel played a huge role in it also. Quite a few times this tournament we spent a long time either hopelessly defending our own box and refusing to press out, or aimlessly passing sideways trying to break teams down. I like Tuchel personally but I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s gone in the coming days. Is it too much to ask to see some heavy metal football?

That’s the real kicker, we’ve looked more resolute this tournament than we’ve been for a while imo, only to go and throw it away tonight.
