We are playing the exact same way that we did too often under Enzo and I expect we will under Martin. Dominate the ball, opponent falls into a narrow, deep block, we have wingers in acres of space, but we then we take 18 passes to go from one wing to the other, by the time we finally get to the wing the opponent has simply jogged 10m into position. Even Jordan Ayew can keep up with our horseshoe football right now.

Further to my last comment, one thing that is really pissing me off about many Reform voters, is their complete lack of accountability applied to Nigel Farage simply because he says things they agree with about migrants. Just because Starmer was a disappointment to you, does not suddenly mean you get to hold Farage to a much weaker standard of ethics or accountability. Farage in my opinion is the biggest snake oil salesman we’ve seen in this country for generations, Reform voters absolutely hammered Angela Rayner over her tax affairs which was proven (if you believe it) to be a genuine mistake. Those same people turn a blind eye, or worse, actively try to make excuses for the fact that Farage: 1) Is in the Epstein files because the man he hired to be his chief advisor over Brexit (Steve Bannon) was boasting to Epstein via text and email that with Brexit and Farage influencing politics, they could (in a round about way) undermine British politics to make changes to laws they could profit from, crypto was directly mentioned. 2) Said he wouldn’t stand to be an MP 3) Got gifted £5m from a crypto billionaire and shortly after changed his mind to stand. 4) Publicly endorsed bitcoin and bought crypto for himself 5) Announced pro crypto policies that both Bannon (and Epstein if he was still alive) and the crypto billionaire that backed him would profit from 6) Suddenly was AGAINST the Bank of England creating its own crypto currency that would have given millions of Brits access to a government backed stablecoin, because it would have weakened bitcoin. If you replaced “Farage” with “Starmer” in that timeline, Reform voters would want him tried for treachery. But because it’s Farage, they think it’s okay. This attitude of allowing politicians we either like, or support to do whatever they like without being held accountable is the exact reason this leadership in this country right across Westminster is the incompetent mess it is.

Exactly this, I’m not sure if it’s wilful ignorance or just poor intellect, but we have millions of people who think “Farage can’t be any worse” We complain about this country because we love this country and want to see it succeed, but often we forget we are some of the luckiest people on earth to be born in this country. There are quite literally billions of people who live in far worse conditions than here. I won’t for a moment pretend poverty isn’t poverty in this country, it is, but there are hundreds of millions of people out there that would trade their poverty for most of ours in a heartbeat. When people say “oh x can’t be any worse” let me say, things can get a lot, lot worse for this country, there is a long way down from where we are right now. Never for a second stop putting pressure on politicians because you believe the worst has already happened.

I've always felt the hatred of Starmer is overblown, but was fully expected. It strikes me as odd that many people hold Starmer at the top of the table for "worst pm in history" despite the fact that Tory ideology has sold the country off to the highest bidder (which is in part responsible for most of the issues we have today), and made a political choice to follow austerity whilst the rest of the world chose to follow Gordon Browns plan of borrowing when interest rates were low to invest, whilst our allies were investing and spending into the economy (and growing out of the 2007 crash faster than we did) we made a political choice to go after the poor and disabled, which led to hundreds of thousands of excess deaths. Starmer has been nowhere near as bad as that, yet he's hated more than any of them. As I said though, it was expected. 14 years of "status quo" gave the voters massive fatigue, so when Starmer was elected (largely due to fptp) people were never going to give him 1 year to turn it around, he was given weeks before his polling tanked. Starmer lied to the left to become Labour leader, he stood on I think it was 10 core principles, he dropped every single one of them after being elected, then he was elected as PM on a platform of "change" and then proceeded to become the embodiment of the status quo. He's nowhere near the worst PM, he just felt a bit like a middle management type that wasn't a born leader, ultimately the hatred feels overblown, and in some limited ways I feel for Starmer. But he could have avoided all of this, if he just implemented changes that actually helped people over wealth. A simple example is breaking the link between Renewables and gas prices, which would have cut energy bills for the average household by upto £500 per year, they announced they would break the link, then released their "plan" which involved not actually breaking the link, just slightly loosening it. They caved to the energy giants with pretty much zero push back, they chose the wealthy over the people. Burnham needs to realise that he has weeks, not months to show genuine direction shift, where he stands up against the Amazons/googles of the world, and stands up for the supermarket workers, the bricklayers and middle classes. That isn't a silver bullet, but it buys him time. The only thing standing between the country and who I believe is the biggest con artist in parliament (Farage) is Burnham. We need to find a balance that gives some relief to the lower/middle classes, that includes small/small-med businesses also. We also need Proportional Representation.

And to think, loads of Leicester fans turned their noses up at Djed Spence a few seasons ago. Was so obvious he was a decent player.

I think the goal is just a mix of both generally poor defending to give players so much space, but primarily because it was fantastically worked and straight from the training ground. However it wasn’t a goal so good that we couldn’t have stopped it. We’ve been bang average so far, hopefully we settle.

Not a huge fan of the current offside rules where we want to analyse it down to the millimetre so I don’t really care that this goal was given despite looking “offside” on tv. The goal wasn’t scored because of a 3cm advantage a player got, it was scored because we defended like a kids league team.

This is the crux of the issue really. Football finances are so broken, there MUST be a way for PSR to analyse a clubs accounts within weeks of the season ending, the fact Everton got punished for a PSR breach does absolutely nothing for the fact that we then got relegated whilst their punishment came the season after. If they were punished for the season they breached, we should have stayed up. It's impossible to prove that the breach was the difference in us going down/staying up, but we shouldn't need to prove that. If you breach, you should be given a deduction THAT SEASON. I don't know what the solution is, it's the speed of the investigations that are the issue here, clubs don't hand their final accounts in until the season is over, and then the league opens an investigation and the legal back and forth begins for 12 months. The sort of changes the sport needs are mid-season accounting checkpoints, so say Feb 1st once the window closes they have to give a macro view of their finances and a clear projection so that the league can begin investigations early and work out how close to breaching the club actually is, then come the end of the season they will be able to fast-track everything as they've already had 6 months of monitoring, couple this with the fact that it's a 3 year rolling window, that would double the amount of information the league has over a clubs finances. The current system is basically "spend now, investigate later" If the league could implement investigations 6 months earlier, it could prevent situations where a club survives by a point but had 6 points deducted next season.

Yep, I didn't get to see him play last season but heard fans were very impressed and his stats were also really good as a sort of box to box/link up midfielder

My gut feeling is RM will instantly identify Sammy Braybrooke as a pivotal part of the team and give him plenty of chances, and I think Braybrooke will become a much better player under RM.

I'm all for disunity when you're mid table and need change, but we are at a "do or die" point of the clubs history, either we get promoted, or we potential fall off the cliff edge, 2 seasons in league 1 could kill us off. We have to go up. I think getting behind Martin fully despite the fact I absolutely despise the football is what we need to have a chance of going up. I don't want to be united behind him, but I think we have to be frustratingly.

Sadly I feel almost forced to get behind him, because Russell Martin and his players are the only thing now standing between us and financial oblivion, I might have to just suck up for a season and focus purely on results, even if it does bore me to sleep. I know I won't stick to this and I'll be slating the slow, laborious gameplay about 3 matches in, but we can only hope.
