But that's where we are at - no player who is above average will lower themselves to L1, I don't see proven L1 strikers taking a sideways step, they'll want to give it a go in the Championship. We're fishing in a very small pond, unfortunately.

I tend to agree, but if you look at what we've bought or loaned as out and out strikers over the last few years, it doesn't mean they'll do the business. I like the idea we are trying to accommodate RM in the transfer market, getting players he knows and can play his system.

Like many of our managers, it looks like he's been told some fantasy story that funds are available and it's likely he'll soon realise he's been led up the garden path. Personally, I think he's done well pre season to get the group working hard for one another and playing a system they appear to have bought into. Yes, the real test will come when they are playing competitive games against some seasoned professionals who are likely to be less skilful, but more physical than what they've encountered so far. If the board don't back RM in some way during the transfer window, it's likely that he'll fail in the ambition of promotion.

I hope there can be some deal sorted so that Ryan One can be part of the agreement. Not sure what Sheff United value him at, but hopefully they can help themselves with a bit of a PSR fiddle. So something like £12m for Souttar and £4m for One. Perhaps I'm being naïve?

Suspect he was cautious yesterday, making sure he didn't pick up an injury that might scupper a move, but I sensed his the desire wasn't really there. Thought his efforts were substandard and in that sense, if his heart isn't in it, you may as well sell.
