  1. Kelvin Kiptum, marathon world record holder, aged 24. Was looking to break the two-hour marathon barrier, too.
  2. Not sure how welcome pol discussion is in this thread so I'll not belabour things beyond this post, but safe to say that we disagree entirely on the amount of influence Trump and moreso his policymaking has on the future and on the inevitability of our current direction.
  3. It would be hilarious if he was on the stand-up circuit and the stakes weren't so high. But he isn't and they are.
  4. It looks proper nasty, doesn't it? That being said... https://www.iea.org/energy-system/transport/aviation "In 2022 aviation accounted for 2% of global energy-related CO2 emissions". https://www.iea.org/reports/co2-emissions-in-2022 "CO2 emissions from energy combustion and industrial process accounted for 89% of energy-related greenhouse gas emissions in 2022." Energy generation is still the much, much bigger elephant in the room than all those planes flying about when it comes to carbon emissions.
  5. I would absolutely not recommend archive.is for this and it absolutely is not as easy as copy and pasting the URL on the second search bar down once you're there.
  6. Shithouse it was then. Take it.
  7. If England do win this it will be a truly remarkable shithouse.
  8. It hasn't been high quality from either side here really.
  9. @Finnegan what's with Wainwright and the highly dodgy facial hair?
  10. That being said, indiscipline is a real issue here.
  11. This ref is a bit finicky. Kickers adjust their stance before taking a kick all the time.
  12. Excellent response with two men down there.
  13. Any one you walk away from!
  14. WRT current chat elsewhere: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/feb/06/trump-climate-change-fossil-fuels-second-term Yes, it's the Grauniad but the linked sources speak for themselves. A win in November that hamstrings the biggest player on this matter will have consequences for the entire world down the line. The line in the sand is there, the Americans will have to pick their side and be remembered by those who come after them for who they pick.
  15. Scotland really haven't had much luck with decisions in critical circumstances that could have gone in their favour in recent years, have they?
  16. There's always been typical conspiracist cranks, but the advent of instant global connection has allowed such beliefs to unify and perpetuate in a way both never seen before and that has a visible effect on voting patterns and (as a result) government policy. Needless to say, that isn't good.
  17. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-68261286 Whoever it was that pulled the trigger on that car and ambulance. Whichever officer gave the order to have it done or let it happen.
  18. Kohli out for the entire series. That will be a miss for India. Still got more than enough to win handily, though
  19. Anyone who has read the James Clavell book, this will be a real treat. For anyone else, think Game of Thrones in Sengoku-era Japan...only smarter.
  20. Nygaard for QPR in 2007. When most of the ground is applauding you putting their team 3-0 down then you know you've scored a screamer.
  21. This. The principle is fine and it would be good to see it, the practice - simply because of the way football is now - would be rather different.
  22. And that's just one of the roadblocks in the way, more's the pity. But we'll get there one day. The rewards and the need to satisfy energy demand without causing rapid and irrevocable civilisational change mean we don't have a choice. Very true. However, hopefully long term thought will win over the business world in that regard.
  23. Well, he did start at Liverpool and was a bit of a journeyman...
  24. .... and in related news on the same day, Labour ditch their climate pledge. Sigh. Short-sighted in the extreme.
  25. Sadly not the former Liverpool midfielder. Or the ex-MI5 spy. George Carlin.
