I appreciate the advice! I think it might be time to find someone who can tailor my CV a little for the field I intend to be involved in, yeah. Not sure about the motivation of bosses, but what you say certainly sounds plausible to me. I'd love a decent job at an NPO like that, but they do seem to be rather rare! Those two positions seem a little higher up the food chain than I might be ready for, but the similar ones advertised with them could be more something that would suit, thank you!

Difficult to say with much of a degree of certainty tbh. What we do know is that the change in temperature is happening at the upper end of what was predicted, it's going to top out at around 3 degrees C overall increase compared to 1850 within the next few decades and therefore the associated consequences with that will in all likelihood arrive on that timescale too.

Science communication, though I've been looking for most jobs that involve presentation of information in a clear and easy to understand manner, as well as general office administration. I've looked at a few Civil Service jobs - no luck yet, as you say, there appears to be a knack to it that I need to learn more about.

Firstly, I appreciate the sympathy! It is deeply frustrating, yeah. I think a commute further afield would work (particularly with a hybrid arrangement), but seeing as for the time being I am limited to using public transport, it would be something I'd have to plan around pretty carefully, at least until I get driving over here. My industry appears to offer a lot of scope for remote work which is good, but I think I would still be limited by location somewhat.

It is very demoralising, yes.

Yep. The Just World Fallacy. So incredibly damaging.

Not quite the right amount of the right experience despite an impressive CV, apparently. Not sure what I can do about that.

Sort of a crosspost from the Job Hunting thread, apologies for that. Filled out three figures worth of applications and had two interviews so far, and got rejected from the second of them yesterday. Getting knocked back this many times is having a negative effect on my mental health. I know other people claim otherwise, but to me the professional job market in Leicestershire that doesn't involve NHS, teaching or niche work for which you already need 5-10 years experience seems utterly saturated. Relocating again is out of the question. I don't know if there's any specific advice folks might offer, but I think I just wanted to vent for the sake of my own sanity. Just don't know what more I can do and really could do with a win on this matter.

One of those cases where a little bit rather than nothing at all helps imo.

I don't think personally that someone has to be world class at something to have led a special life, but of course it is entirely subjective.
-
Depends on how you define those things, really. Or indeed, a life that is somehow different or "special".
-
Reckon that kind of thing depends on the person. There's the bereaved, the estranged, and a few other complex situations, I guess.
-
That's right, so it's never possible to witness events in space more than a few "light seconds" away in real time, as it were. The distances bugger everything up to the point time just becomes another linear dimension with its own horizon.

Normally I strongly advocate for tech advances, but this is a case where the tech has advanced faster than our understanding and brains regarding it.

Second interview after 100+ applications last week, found out it was unsuccessful today. Not an easy game, is it?
-
Sadly, we'll never know, as it is beyond our line of sight temporally.

The scale of that thing is unbelievable.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-gloucestershire-68341208 One of the UK's "most technically advanced" indoor farms has opened in Gloucestershire. The so-called vertical farm can grow salad three times as fast as traditional outdoor agriculture thanks to its controlled, consistent climate. Lettuce, basil and other herbs are grown under special lights, in a warm humid atmosphere. Interesting look.

Understandable

Would agree with that too. There certainly has been a backslide in that regard in the last decade in places including the UK, but times are still steadily getting better overall IMO - that's just a hunch on my part though.
-
That could well be true tbh, but while that isn't great I would think it's better than the alternative of the past.
