Nothing to see here, just a Telegraph talking head choosing nationalist ideology over the future of his own country.
-
Yeah, something in the middle for me, too. While Trump and Putin are playing daft geopolitical games in denial of changing times, the Chinese are quietly getting on with things and guaranteeing a future for themselves (and, hopefully, the rest of the world).
-
That seems to be about the size of it, though don't underestimate people like Miller. The UK isn't the world, more's the pity, though I think we've gotten to a place where we understand each other's points at the present time.
-
I emphatically agree, and that part wasn't meant to be a dig, merely an observation based on what I've seen. It's bloody difficult to see things beyond a tribal lens even if you want to, I know I have difficulty with it sometimes myself. But either enough of us do it or, frankly, our species is fvcked.
-
Which I do agree with. It's hypocritical, but the hypocrisy, just like the antisemitism, is not limited to just one particular bloc here, as much as people might like it to be so.
-
Well, yes. Putin is perhaps the only other world candidate with both the power to shape events in the UK and being rather off his rocker? Do feel free to elaborate on why such matters might not be pertinent.

On the topic of world events that might affect the UK: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/videos/c78veq59823o "He's crazy." Presented without further comment.

Which is a difficult path to tread, because not only do you draw fire from all sides, but also there are numerous examples of people using such impartiality merely as a cloak when they're really anything but (even when sometimes they really believe it), which leads to suspicion.
-
No, I did, because like it or not these things don't exist in a vacuum for one's convenience and I'd rather people not believe that they do, because that's erroneous. Best to see all sides of an issue rather than just present one. But on the general point, as per above, either life is valued or it isn't, and therefore either every humanitarian crisis deserves attention, or none do, based on nothing more than number. Whichever "tribe" is acting otherwise is wrong imo.
-
I'm trying to remember, was it lefties shouting "Jews will not replace us" in Charlottesville in 2017? (Which resulted in the death of another woman.) Or coming up with the consistent stereotypical conspiracy theories all over social media? Was it also them who made the wholesale elimination of that demographic national policy and carried it out on an industrial scale? Please don't frame this as a single section problem. It's not and it's dishonest to try. WRT the second paragraph, let me know when those rallying against the ones who are selective in their protests actually care about much beyond short term self interest and that of their "tribe". Again, this is hardly a unique to one demographic problem.
-
If this is what I think it is, such sentiments are hardly just a "left" phenomenon. And, on topic, it's rather absurd to me that such crises are subject to traditional political compassing anyway. Either you want to preserve human (and other life) and the future, or you don't. That's the real compass.
-
You'll get no disagreement from me regarding people seemingly arbitrarily picking one humanitarian crisis over another, that's a matter of record. Either all of them are important or none are. The point is that the UK (and other nations) ignore such crises at their peril, because such problems do end up affecting everywhere directly or indirectly, and that's only going to get more apparently as the world gets smaller and vital resources diminish due to greed, ignorance or malice displayed by some powerful human beings.

"The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters." Such are the times we live in. And another quote. "I wish it need not have happened in my time." "So do I and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” - Tolkien.

Possibly because some people need an international cause celebre to attach themselves to. But also because others know, rather too well, that the world is getting smaller, it's interconnected, and more and more often such events can and do end up affecting everyone. The UK and the people in it simply can't just ignore what's going on elsewhere, in spite of the problems it has within its own borders, because often the two are linked and that linkage isn't going to go away - if anything, it will only get stronger.

Fox News emphasising the point that Renee Good was dating a woman and had a child from a previous marriage. Obvious implication being that she's no real loss to society.
-
Astute. There doesn't appear to be any good answer right now. The Chinese have an answer, but it's not necessarily good.
-
This is a key part of understanding what's going on imo. People like him seeking to abuse power often dress up such abuses of power before they happen in a sea of "humour" and bluffs. I'm not sure why anyone shouldn't take the man, and everything he says he's going to do, seriously until proven otherwise at this point.

Thank you, all I wanted to know was a possible alternative explanation for why she stated what she stated. Personally, I think that whole issue is a minefield and as a result I try to not really back a horse in that particular race.
-
If she wasn't doing that, then what was her intent with that communication?

Vance is such a misogynist reptile. Thankfully he doesn't appear to have the same charisma (?) as his Dear Leader, which bodes somewhat well for 2028 seeing as he'll likely be the nominee.

Love you too
