The west is a lot nicer than the east from my experience of the NC500. There's so much to see, depending how much to want to stick the main route. We just did a lot of stopping when things too our interest rather than planning too much in advance. I cannot help too much with places to stay as we booked rooms each night..but in Scotland you can pretty much park up anywhere I believe?
