I suspect that there are more than a few variables that need sorting out before any kind of accurate prediction as to what a plausible outcome would be and I'm certainly not qualified to venture into such an area. What I would say though, is this: I sleep OK at night knowing that there are people who are qualified to deal with such scenarios and they care passionately about it so that it allows me to sleep OK at night. I also strongly suspect that the better funded they are, the better they can perform at their job and that on a macro scale, more funding for defence = less chance of a war breaking out in the first place, less funding = greater chance of war breaking out, and a much harder fight to come out the other end without pressing the master switch.

In a Russia vs NATO conflict there could be hundreds of ways that that could play out where the use of equipment and tactics that the public have no idea even exist could be used to end it before an all out nuclear war. But if your options are A. Nothing or B. Nukes, then the threshold for reaching taking option B becomes greatly reduces and therefore far more likely. Defence spending is a funny thing really. You don't really need it until you need it, and at that point, everyone will wish more had been spent.

Being able to defend the country against other states or terrorist organisations is should be the number one priority of any government. It's incredibly complex and incredibly expensive, but it's a non-negotiable, otherwise you literally risk not having a country.

Are we competing dor the Bass Charity Vase against Burton? Even if playing a team from the same division isn't ideal, players look back at their success by looking at the medals they win. This has potential to be a great confidence boost after a few grim years. Perhaps a reason to get the open top bus out again? Bring the fans and the club closer together! Literally no downside to this (unless we lose).

Don't do it to yourself! To his credit, he is a can talk a good game, which is terrible news for us because we all know the leadership love a good talker, but everyone else knows that his approach is very much "Listen to what I say, but don't watch me too closely".

It's not really clear. He was given the job "until the end of the season" in mid Feb. It's not clear if that means until the final whistle of the final game or the traditional end of June. What I do know is that we are well capable of giving someone a contract to do work for 2 and a half months and then pay them for 4 and a half months.

So you're saying that when someone calls the police to say that they've been the victim of a racist assault, on arrival, the police should treat everyone, including the victim as a suspect while they assess the incident? That's not really how it works. I'm not sure how that would go down in the press. I think I've seen a fair few headlines over the years along the lines of "POLICE DIDN'T BELIEVE THE VICTIM" An allegation is made, police get details of the allegation from the victim (in good faith that the victim is telling the truth) and then investigate. This provides the cornerstone for any investigation and will dictate the initial enquiries. Of course, sometimes the allegation is fabricated and sometimes the "victim" is actually the offender, but that would normally come later, once more evidence has been gathered. There wasn't much wrong with the police's initial response. They've attended what's been reported as a violent incident, the "offender" has been pointed out. They've essentially been told "This guy has been violent", so he gets handcuffed for their own safety as much as for others at the scene. I dare say the officers have had experience of actual violent offenders feigning injury or acting like they're incapable of causing a problem, only for that not to be case. The bit I have the problem with, and where it goes sideways very quickly, is where he is saying he's been stabbed and can't breathe. At that point a much more thorough check should have been commenced immediately in my opnion, it might have only taken 5-10 seconds, but it wasn't and it was about a minute in until they realised there was an actual problem.

Championship? Active in transfer market? Chance to be back in the Premier League after just one season? Burnley would be much better for RM's ego. He should go there. It's a no-brainer.

In the history of football I don't think there's been a player command a £10m+ fee from a League One team. I get that he is young and has some potential, but he hardly set the league on fire last season. If we (desperate for money and not in a strong negotiating position) manage to get £10m+ for Monga then it means that Arsenal are more stupid than us.

What are you on about? The bloke went to work, was sent to a situation that most normal people wouldn't ever experience in their life and made a poor initial decision which took him down a path of making a series of linked poor decisions for about 60 seconds. Investigate that process, sure. Deal with it through the disciplinary process, sure. Lose his career, maybe. But have armchair internet commentators hope that he lives in fear of violence? Come on!

It does my head in! Slightly different, but still in the realm of youth injustice, in Northampton last year a 15 year old boy (with a couple of friends) walked into Dunelm on a busy Saturday afternoon, walked to the bedding section and set fire to it. The entire store was destroyed, Pets at Home (next door) was also destroyed. Thankfully no people were hurt and it was reported that all the animals were evacuated from Pets at Home (I find that hard to believe). The wake of carnage for his actions was unbelievable... Road closures on the day causing big delays for everyone, closure of the whole retail park (loss of revenue for other businesses), firefighters risking their lives to control the fire and stop the spread to other stores, policing resources to manage all of that on the day and the subsequent weeks of investigation, millions of pounds worth of damage, staff losing their jobs, public safety issues (aside from setting fire to a shop in the middle of the afternoon) relating to the shells of the buildings left behind and so on. The 15 year old was charged with the offence and a couple of weeks ago the case was thrown out because his ADHD means he wouldn't be able to have a fair trial. That's it. Finished. Nothing will now happen to him, no custodial sentence, no community punishment, no rehabilitation order, nothing. It's as though nothing happened. The message he has received is that "You have ADHD, so you have a pass to do whatever you want to do and nothing will happen to you. The law that you show no regard for will prioritise protecting you, over the safety of the wider public. You are untouchable.". Again, there needs to be balance. Mental health issues are a serious issue in the criminal justice system, but there are varying degrees of mental health conditions and varying degrees of seriousness of offence. The two have to be looked at together. This was another case where the welfare of the offender was placed front and centre and of higher priority to that of the victim(s) and the seriousness of what was done. For me, his actions passed a threshold where regardless of the severity of his ADHD diagnosis, there has to be some kind of justice served, not nothing!
