One things that saddens me re this upcoming by-election is that Burnham is being attacked by white, right leaning working class voters in the local area around his ‘clean air zone’. There’s nothing libertarian about being diagnosed with COPD before your 60th birthday.

Yep the general trends are going in the right direction. If an improving nhs, slowly growing economy and reduction in asylum hotels isn’t enough for people then there’s not much Labour can do anyway given the economic constraints in the west.

There is an asylum system, which is massively oversubscribed too. You can turn down claims which will ultimately mean somebody is an illegal migrant and should be deported, but that still doesn’t mitigate them being here in the first place. There’s nothing that Reform will be able to do regarding that anyway. If they want to set up internment camps then go ahead but good luck finding people to work in them and good luck having the legal ability to do it.

Minimum wage is essentially a human right, would you defend someone getting paid 1p per hour if the market forces push them that way? The minimum wage is far too low if anything.

Excuse the pun but why are immigration issues always so black or white? It’s either that you want every ‘forener’ deported or that you want to open the gates for whole world. Immigration should be functional for the states needs, an asylum system is completely separate. We’re just so bad at political debate these days. The general knowledge on why immigration exists is non existent.

Of course, and that’s fine and probably healthy for a democracy. And God, you vote for your local MP so if they’re decent and doing a good job you should absolutely reward them with your vote, because that’s how our voting system works.

Politics doesn’t work like that, else we might as well give the communist party or EDL a chance. Vote for the party closest to your values.

I’d imagine that’s the opinion he has of himself too and why he drank to escape from it!
