Fantastic series, the one's written by Frank anyway, the less said about the ones written by his son and some star wars fanfic writer the better. The first one was that good is brought back my love of reading after 13 years of school nearly killed it stone dead.

Leicsmac I've often seen you post things along the lines of 'humanity needs to act as one' and without trying to sound stupid, what do you mean by that? When people make statements like this I get images of brave new world and 1984, though I imagine this isn't your intention.

The first Super hero film I've been looking forward to in ages. I hope they channel some of Frank Miller's bat crap crazy Fascist Batman from the Dark Knight returns, but not the lapdog Superman. It does seem like they've skipped a Superman film though. One that sets up this whole false God business.

Poor kids. The time I spent in school killed off my natural childhood curiosity and of the love of learning and reading untill I managed to unlearn what I'd learnt. Must be a 100 times worse for these kids because there's no escape even at home.

I'll give a shout out to Arcanum. Like all Troika games it's a very flawed gem, but it's got one of the best character systems, every character you make can play very differently. The setting is fantastic, your typical fantasy world but currently going through an industrial revolution. The Orcs are no longer the bane of humanity, they staff the factories owned by the Gnomes. The whole conflict between technology and magic is great and has an effect on gameplay like healing spells not working on high tech characters. The flaws come from the combat system. It was originally supposed to be turn based, and as we know anything not turn based it mere popamole shit, but the publishers wanted to include a real time option to try and cash in on the popularity of Diablo. The encounter designs aren't great either and you'll get PTSD from the dreaded black mountain clan mines. It's definatley worth it for the setting, character system and the fallout like quest design though but you need plenty of patience. Oh and for the love of god don't play a tech character on the first play through unless you're going for a grenadier build!

All your doing is protecting people from one group of corruptible and fallible human beings with a monopoly on the use of force with another group of corruptible and fallible human beings with a monopoly on the use of force. Like paying the mafia to protect you from a gang of small time thugs.

one of the problems with education is parents. If their having to pay for their childs education they'll make sure their getting their monies worth. If education is marketised you'd also get lots of variety in the way children are taught rather than just one size fits all. What's wrong with someone making a profit? people shouldn't be payed for their services? We have for profit schools now and by all accounts they're good, because they have to be or they'd lose business. Even then in a world where education is completely marketised not all schools would be for profit. You'd have shcools ran on charitable donations, home schooling, communities setting up their own schools and all manner of ways I haven't thought of.

I don't see how getting rid of Gove is any sort of victory for education. Gove was a career bureaucrat and his replacement will be the same. The people who are passionate about education are the ones teaching in classrooms, not working for a political party. The only way education will be free of the likes of Gove is if education is completely separated from the state.

We must trust what the State does without question! in all seriousness I do wonder about things like this though and whether the effectiveness has been exaggerated as a way of sticking it to the man. Since I know nothing of the science I can't comment on whether cannabis is an effective way of treating cancer but I wouldn't be suprised if the anointed ones where keeping good treatments off the market with regulation.
