From today's Guardian. Opening paragraph from 2021:
Arguably the best African prospect of his generation. The Tamale native is an all-action midfielder who can play behind a striker or on the right wing, where he cuts on to his powerful left foot and plays incisive passes. He was especially electric at the 2021 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations where he was named player of the tournament, despite being younger than the vast majority of the players. As he grows older, Fatawu may drop back into a box-to-box role where he can get stuck into tackles and use his range to play longer passes between the lines. Despite plying his trade in the second division of Ghanaian football, he has already been called up to represent the Black Stars in two international windows. Maher Mezahi
September 2022 update A dream year for the player as he played in Afcon in January, signed for Sporting in April and made his professional club debut in August. Look out for the young Ghanaian to be profiled as one of the World Cup’s most exciting young players later this year.
October 2023 update It was a mixed year for Issahaku. After playing in the World Cup, and making his debut for Sporting, it was hinted that he needed more experience to truly make it to the top so he was sent on loan to Leicester City in the Championship for the 2023-24 campaign.
October 2024 update Spent the season on loan at Leicester City last season where he helped them win promotion by scoring six goals and providing 13 assists in 40 league matches. His time with Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations was less successful as the Black Stars crashed out in the group stages. Fatawu joined Leicester on a permanent deal in the summer and has started this season on a good note, making four appearances in the Premier League at the time of writing and even pitching in with his first assist.
October 2025 update Fatawu's first Premier League campaign was cut short by a knee ligament injury, a setback made worse by Leicester’s relegation at the end of the season. Now fully recovered, he has made a flying start in the Championship, scoring a few spectacular goals and establishing himself as a key player for the Foxes.
