  1. Yeah it's more than fair to ask about the long term. We are in a situation where we are the shop window for managers and players to show what they can do before going to the elites. That's frustrating, but equally could be a lot worse as in no one wanting to come here at all! The real problem with building long term is we don't have a proper DOF. Succession planning is a real thing and it feels like we don't have it. That said I think it's fair to say that this sequence of events was hard to predict.
  2. Regarding van Nistelrooy, soneone posted this on Reddit: "He was a bit of a mixed bag. He didn't want to take the role at PSV yet, but the club basically talked him into it after Schmidt had left. He started out strong (they played really well in the pre season), had some decent ideas about how he wanted to play and some of the players were really enthusiastic about his management style. He appears to have an eye for talent and how to improve players, especially forwards. But when the team started to struggle in the league he couldn't really right the ship and his playstyle became a bit conservative, more how a NT would play at a tournament. But honestly he didn't have the best PSV team at his disposal (he lost Gakpo and Madueke) and had some bad luck with injuries. Overall his one season wasn't all that bad, but he wasn't really getting a lot of confidence (and backing) from the club management so he quit, which seemed the best for all involved. The tactics and basics he left behind were further expanded by Bosz though and according to him they were a solid foundation for his title winning side. RvN made a few mistakes but most managers starting out do, it is an on the job learning process. His chilled media approach and clear way of communicating was refreshing though and of his generation of Dutch ex-players he showed probably the most potential along with van Bommel who is ahead on experience. It would be an interesting choice, but i think that with the right assistants he could do well with Leicester."
  3. You could put a monster buyout in, but it's true that has been the case for a few of them so far. McKenna seems to be showing some loyalty so it depends on the manager. Also Enzo after being lied to about the FFP stuff is well within his rights to go. But it's a fair point to make, I give you that.
  4. He’s my number one pick. Given a points deduction and restricted transfer business we’re favourites to go down. For that reason I’d hire someone who can commit to a 3-5 year project who is talented but young, exciting and with something to prove. Corberan also fits the profile but Arsenal’s patterns of play are almost identical to Maresca’s. It would be a seamless transition. Additionally he is credited as massively developing Saka and Odegaard, which would benefit Fatawu and KDH. High risk, high reward appointment, but an exciting one!
  5. I wonder if the slump was related to this? I felt like his body language looked like someone that didn't want to be here at times. It definitely didn't start off like that, but yeah the FFP and Sensi situations clearly riled him up.
  6. He's got a deal to take Uruguay to the next world cup. With the players they have and him in charge, they are real dark horse material. Players like Valverde and Nunez will run and run and they have some serious quality in that squad too.
  7. No way! If you want to try your hand at this sort of thing, please let me know. I actually think there should be a Foxes Talk one, and the guests could be rotated through a bunch of people. There are some great posters on here and people that offer different viewpoints in eloquent terms. This goes for several people on here! I find it a lot of fun because at the end of the day it's kind of like talking to your mates at the pub, just minus the beers and plus a camera in front of your face
  8. Ask and you shall receive Our analysis here is nowhere near as good as Tacticar's, but if you've been keeping tabs on me, I think Corberan is the best choice available. I would love to se Cuesta as a "spicy" pick, but I think Corberan ticks all the boxes we need for right now. I also think the crowd would take to him as I think he's prepared to be more pragmatic and direct at times. Biggest question if he retains the system he uses at the Baggies is Ricardo. Does he use him as a raiding fullback or convert him fulltime into a CDM? If we appoint him in full, I will start a new tactics thread for him or for whomever is the new man in charge.
  9. The Leicester job is still a massive one. You walk into that training centre and you are saying yes! Owners have been there for over a decade, have won trophies in the past, ambitious and have a great squad. I assume that anyone that comes in will want a minimum 2-3 year deal and assurances that if we are relegated, they are kept on to spearhead the promotion charge if neccessary. You are definitely dealt a starting bad hand, but you get to manage in the Premier League immediately and if you keep the club up, you are an instant hero. I think the new owners do want to keep Corberan, but the fact is he has no previous relationship with them. And few if any clubs in the country can match our academy. Outside of the elite clubs, in terms of infrastucture, ours are some of the best. Don't get me wrong though, the worst thing that could happen is that manager after manager turns us down. That would really make us feel bad.
  10. http://westbrom.com/forum/index.php?topic=27368.2900 I thin the best way to judge a player or manager is to listen to the fans themselves. Pretty telling that they call him "King Carlos"...
  11. MAYBE it's so they can divide the wages over a longer period of time. They are Amortisation FC after all.
  12. Not making this up, but I saw a Leeds fan channel bemoaning that Cheslea were interested in McKenna and Maresca but NOT interested in THEIR manager.
  13. Very much agree. Those two built a connection with the fans. I think there is a bit of an overreaction to Enzo leaving and some unnecessary hate. He came in and did the job he was asked to do, and gave us some good times and memories. That Preston away game will go down as a great experience. At the same time, he wasn't hear for that long and didn't overperform or achieve miracles. I'd add Ranieri to that list, even though he had to go, and Pearson who was unlucky to go and did great things for us. Enzo leaving definitely hurts more than Rodgers going though!
  14. Fantastic post
  15. Ha that last part makes me laugh but I agree with it! You could get a better appointment but I think he’s a solid choice that could be exciting.
  16. I wouldn’t categorise him as defensive either, it’s more he’s good at setting up a defence. Ranieri’s team might not have had much possession but I wouldn’t call them defensive. Corberan was Bielsa’s number 2 but to his credit he adapted his style to maximise his resources at other clubs. Cuesta the Arsenal number 2 is the manager with the highest ceiling but Corberan is the sensible choice. I also have a feeling that the fans might appreciate his style more than Enzo as I don’t think he’s as stubborn. Any appointment is a risk but as per my previous post I think he’s a good pick. Potter would also be good though IMO his achievements in English football aren’t as good as Corberan. I understand why people want Moyes but our team isn’t setup for his style at all. No unit of a striker, no set piece specialist, keeper isn’t the right type, etc.
  17. Only team in the Championship not to spend any money on new players, just loan signings: https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/west-bromwich-albion/transfers/verein/984 He overachieved massively with that team. Does that make him the right man for the Leicester job is a different question, but he's a very good manager and has proved it. Look at the Baggies forums for what they think about this news.
  18. https://breakingthelines.com/tactical-analysis/carlos-corberans-tactical-set-up-at-west-brom/ Great article on Corberan at West Brom, using examples against us. I think he'd be a good choice. Plays out from the back to make spaces in much the same way as us, but also pragmatic enough to play a compact block ala Ranieri at times too. I think he's got a good combination of excitement, experience, hunger, youth (still only 41) and cost that make him tick a lot of boxes. If the worst should happen, he's a shrewd operator in the Championship too. Biggest question mark will be around Ricardo, who might be shifted to more of a fullback rather than inverted fullback if Corbern comes in.
  19. Crazily enough though, maybe deals like that ARE possible for us. If we pay a season-long loan fee, even if we get relegated, if the player shows his class there could be a big money move for him from someone else in the league. Why would Feyenord want to do a deal like that is the question, but sometimes clubs have another player waiting in the wings. Banks and Shilton is a famous example that happened right here at Leicester!
  20. I think he's overrated, but the interest that Atalanta have in him is pretty telling. He hardly set the world alight for a relegated Birmingham side, so expecting him to make the step up to Premier League level seems foolhardy to me. Atalanta typically loan their players out and develop them till they are ready. I think he could become a good player, but relying on him hitting the ground running I don't see happening. Here are his stats, easy enough to see the interest from both us and Atalanta. A pressing machine who carries a goal threat and progresses the ball. Definitely has that rough diamond feel to him, bit I'd dare say he could do with another season or two in the Championship.
  21. IMO this is what we need to do next season regardless of who is in charge. If Enzo stays, he did actually change to that style after the bad run, so it shows he's not against doing it. If Coberan comes in and Enzo departs, he's shown he can be both attacking but also pragmatic if need be. The cup final shows how hard it is to break down a deep block though. Once United were two up they parked the bus and it worked, even against the 4 time league champions. It's impossible to counter attack a team that shows no intent to attack any more!
  22. I don't think Potter is bad, I just don't think Potter would make the team achieve more than when we had Rodgers in charge. However, as we discuss this now the lofty heights of 5th place and cup wins seem a mile away! First task is safety if possible, then midtable, then pushing. Potter would be good at that and to be fair if you had the right coach, they could really stamp their authority and personality on the club and get the club playing your way from academy to first team. Potter could be someone like that.
  23. The only thing you can say about West Brom is they had the 6th highest wage bill. Players on loan like Mikey Johnstone cost a fair bit on the wages. But that said their squad is a joke compared to Coventry and Hull and they outperformed them. Their strike Dike has also been out for ages, then came back and got injured again. So they were competitive despite having one of their best players unavailable.
  24. I've got to say I think Potter is extremely overrated. However, given that as a club we've regressed from expecting to qualify for Europe to being thankful to remain in the division, I think he'd be a great choice for us right now. He turned down Ajax becuase they didn't offer him enough though, which might mean he thinks he's barry big bollocks now and only wants top jobs / pay. Whoever we appoint, I want to see a hungry manager that wants to make a name for themsleves.
