Yes, Americans are learning (I hope) as the UK did before them, that if you elect a clown, you get a circus.

Chelsea 1-0 LCFC, post match thread
WigstonWanderer replied to Phil Mitchell's topic in Leicester City Forum
I seem to remember a run of matches in the Great Escape season when it seemed like we would never score again, and this feels the same. Unfortunately these players don’t have the character or ability of that great squad. -
Can’t believe we didn’t get the ball forward while they were a man light. Almost like we were waiting for him to come back on.

Here we go. Seen this movie before

Made it to HT without conceding so that’s something I suppose. Frustrating that every promising break either ends with a crap pass or a pass backwards. Edit: thank goodness for Mads.

Great speech. We need leaders like this.

I have an Amazon subscription myself and I know what you mean, but I always felt guilty swapping support for local business with the convenience of free home delivery from a company owned by an American oligarch. Bezos’ recent behaviour with the Washington Post and sucking up to Trump will tip me over the edge. We all have to make small sacrifices.

It was done in WW2, obviously much more technological now so harder. Europe as a whole is very rich with a GDP close to that of the States I believe so anything is possible with sufficient will. The remaining democracies have to face the possibility that the US simply won’t be one in the near future, and plan/act accordingly. At least what’s happening in the US appears to be strengthening and unifying democratic forces in the rest of the world.

So what exactly is he getting in return? Is it a genuine business deal where American companies get access to Ukraine assets in exchange for royalties paid to Ukraine? Or is it a straightforward extortion where the US is threatening a full on switch to supporting Putin?
-
Put a massive property tax on them. A worldwide boycott of anything Trump, Musk or the rest of the billionaire oligarchs including Amazon would be good.

Perhaps Enzo will throw us a bone.

Even if we beat Wolves, Southampton & Ipswich (very unlikely), that would still yield only 26 points. Can’t see any way we’d get more than another 4 points anywhere else, and that’s being optimistic. 30 points is unlikely to keep us up. The only other possibility would be a “great escape” type revival and I can’t see any way that’s going to happen with this squad. The 2014/15 squad was vastly superior even if we didn’t appreciate quite how much talent was present at the time. Edit: I guess this us all pretty obvious to everyone already.

I think Trump would be quite happy with this map of the world from Orwell’s 1984. Probably more likely China would have a bigger slice of Asia including Australia and Indonesia. Also Trump would want Greenland.

There doesn’t seem to be any genuine peace deal on the table. The only deal being offered is surrender.

I actually wonder whether Putin will use nuclear weapons in Ukraine now. US deterrent simply isn’t credible.

A promise not worth the hot air that formed the words

As funny as this is, on a serious note, the idea that the current pro-fascist political movements sweeping the world are down to older people is totally wrong. I’m now in my 70s and frequently find myself banging my head against the wall try to explain what’s wrong with Trump to younger people. There’s a load of Trump-curious youngsters around and it it truely saddens me that they can be so gullible.

Elon Musk is a walking advert for why the world needs to come up with some way of curtailing the ability of anyone to accumulate more than say $100m. This is a great deal of money and would not IMO disincentivise budding entrepreneurs from innovation, but would prevent the blatant abuse of unelected power, including corrupt conflicts of interest, that we are currently seeing. It’s probably already too late as these narcissists already have so much control over the levers of power that it would take some sort of revolution, which as well as being unlikely, comes with its own set of problems.

Gave themselves a bloody nose

I’d love to see what’s left of the democracies stick firmly together and call him out. Cowering and flattering him is completely useless. It just emboldens him to continue with his lies and bullying. Great to see Macron fact check him live to his face. If no one reacts to the fire alarms going off, everyone will just carry on as normal until we all burn.

I don’t think the other shysters around Trump have the “charisma” (couldn’t think of another word) that Trump has so maybe the Maga crowd wouldn’t be so easily deluded.
-
Seems his popularity is already falling. Hopefully continue to do so. Less than 2 years I believe until mid term elections and perhaps he’d be a lame duck for the 2 years after that. This assumes that there are ever free and fair elections again in the US of course and I don’t think this can be taken for granted. Would be wonderfully poetic if a severe bout of Covid carried him away.

Really used to hate seeing people leave early, but can’t blame them now.

How does this team do in the Championship?
WigstonWanderer replied to hejammy's topic in Leicester City Forum
Goodnight will go back, Mads will move on. Maybe lose BEK and Ndidi. Is anyone else worth having?
