Think you are overestimating the scale of the problem, it likely just stands out due to the obvious dissonance it represents. Reasonable discussion is warranted, even beneficial, because he is no more Beckenbauer (yet) than he is Matt Mjlls. This season alone he has shown he is calm, a very good defender, and more than good enough for us this season and in the future.
