Winks is quietly having a truly awful game.
Winks is quietly having a truly awful Leicester career.
From looking untouchable at the start of 23/24 to looking out of his depth at the bottom of the championship.

@honeybradger turns out I wasn't being harsh on Nelson...my word bombscare
Nelson under Rowett at Oxford had no issues with keeping it tight defensively at this level.
There is something very wrong with this club and team where it's significantly harder to play well.

Same with Cifuentes and RVN, not much you can do with this group of players.

Has jake evans been playing at Northampton?
Came off the bench a couple times and looked ok in limited minutes.
Started once in the papa John's trophy on the wing and looked like a good goal threat, he scored but went a bit early on his run.

HES PLAYING IN THE SECOND DIVISION.
Why didn’t he get a move to the 1st if he’s as good as people think he is? I really think he’s a couple of year away from being a regular for us.1. Starting from next season we will have barely any first team players.
2. Most of our players are playing at a league one level with a couple high performers like James and Fatawu keeping us afloat.
So we're talking about a player who should have been loaned to league one because he's too good for league two and comparing him to players who should be playing in league one because theyre not good enough for the championship. He's not that far off most of our first team really.
3. 9 months ago we were in the Premier league and charlton were in league one, a two division difference, now Chartlon have recently beaten us at home and are above us in the table. Two divisions is not insurmountable.

good grief. If that’s a ‘ highlight reel tha gets people excited then no wonder we are in the mess we are in.
not saying he isn’t a good player but totally bang average highlight reel
We're not in the prem anymore where we have Maddison and Tielemans.
He looks around the same as what we have on low wages and is still young.

Yeah that's what I'm saying in essence! Just doesn't take long for these promising young players to suddenly turn awful.
I think awful is a strong word for a player who has largely played well despite being partnered with Vestergaard and Okoli for the most part.
At the very least, even if he plays just as badly as Faes, Vestergaard and Okoli he is young and only on relatively low wages, which still makes him an upgrade. As an added benefit he also plays better than those three on average.

Louis page has 1 assist in 15 apps
There is no doubting he has a higher salary and needs minutes, but at the moment BDCR has better returns you literally can't disagree with that - it is a fact.
I think BDCR has scored some really important goals for us, maybe given us 6 points or so from his goals. That could be the difference between staying up and going down
yea he is on a high salary, he can't help that. He gets a lot of stick on here and I don't really get why, he is a decent championship player.
BCDR is a good goal scorer but he has probably lost us more points this season by losing the ball too easily in midfield.
Page on the other hand is not as composed in front of goal but he loses the ball a lot less.

I really like him but he was weak in the build up for the penalty they got (Skipp then Okoli the main culprits) and Edozie caused him loads of problems. He does get caught out a lot. And those rating systems are massively flawed so I'd rather rely on what I saw happen.
As I say, big fan and would rather he was in the team than any other option on either side just think he looks a lot more raw than he did in pre season
He does make defensive errors but so does everyone else.
This team desperately needs extra athleticism, especially in the fullback position, which Aluko provides.
Aluko is also young so with gametime he is more likely to iron out those mistakes, whereas in Ricky's case he seems to be getting more error prone each week.

King is an often underrated, but genuine club legend. Been there for the entire roller-coaster, from start to finish.
Love him.
But that doesn't mean that I won't realise and accept that he's out of his depth as a manager - even at Championship level.
We need someone else to help us stay up. If that's what we need. But if staying up means that Top and Rudkin stay, I'm not convinced it's the best for the club in the long run - as completely mad as that might sound.
Staying up and Top and Rudkin staying is preferable to the scenario where we go down and go bankrupt.
Although the catch is that if Top and Rudkin stay in position then we are almost guaranteed to go down given enough time so it might end up in the same result.
Sadly I think we have to come to terms with the looming reality that we might be seeing the end of Leicester City.

Good for him if he's playing well at his new club.
We have seen enough of Faes in a Leicester shirt to know that if he was still here nothing would be different.

For such a terrible team and awful season, we have scored some great goals.
It was the same in 22/23, our highlight real from that season would make you think we finished top 6.

Laceslles looked 10x the player of Okoli so hopefully he won;t be starting in the league and we stick with the current fullbacks
There's a decent chance Lascelles is injured for the remaineder of the season

Evans, Fofana and Soyuncu were okay when we were pushing top 4.
It went down hill when we signed Wout Faes and our signings have got slowly more doggo.
We signed Vestergaard before Faes who was also dog.

Well, I am incredibly dull and traced my comments back to 20 July 2020 first calling him out. Not nastily, as he was a kid thrown into the team, but it was along the lines of 'we cannot possibly continue to play him'
So, his start couldn't have been that good
At the time I also said we couldnt go into next season with him as our only left footed left back (mostly in reaction to us signing Castagne) but that doesnt mean didnt think he had shown promise for his age. The best games he's had in a leicester shirt came in 2020/2021 as well (Napoli, Man United).
He just hasnt progressed past that point sadly.

knowing our luck Blackburn are about to go on a strong run of results and we will be left adrift at the end of the next 5 games

Quite a few posters have mentioned on this thread before now much luck is involved in football. I think Like Thomas is the strongest example ever.
He was a nobody youth team player that got called up to a PL game courtesy of the seasonal Rodgers injury crisis. It happens all the time. 2,3 games never to be seen again. Released. Goes to Nuneaton, released, goes to Oadby. Fades away and retrains as an electrician..That was his destiny.
But fate intervened. Jonny Evans coached him through to 10 games. Evans was a known talker/moaner on the pitch. He could probably talk me or you to a semblance of a decent game.
All of a sudden, 10 games in he's part of the squad. And vaguely useful as a filler for the European squad homegrown rosta.
He's up to 20 games..
And he's got a career. Pure happenstance and luck. They'll be youth team players who pissed all over him every training session currently working shifts at Amazon wondering what the hell happened
In terms of how he performed at youth level I think this was right, he was always a bit shaky and the game before he was promoted to the first team i am pretty sure he played an opposition player in to goal with a missplaced pass.
Let's not downplay the fact that Thomas did take his opportunity at the time. At the start he played well, not just at defending but going forward, i remember him linking up very well with Barnes at Napoli, scoring against Man United etc. Similar to someone like Mcateer who scored regularly at the start of the 2023/24 season but was unable to maintain his form.
That's why I think fans put too much emphasis on young players "taking their opportunity". Silko Thomas took his opportunity in pre season and has played semi regularly for us, but i would back more talented players like Evans or Alves who havent necessarily forced their way into the team to maintain good performances once they have settled in and found their form.

Seems goalkeeper is another one of those positions where I start to fool myself that whoever isn't playing is better than the donkey who is playing.
See also:
- Pereira / Hamza
- Every centre back
- Thomas / Kristiansen
- Every central midfielder
- Daka / Ayew
Daka is undeniably better than Ayew.
Says more about Ayew than Daka though.

Yea, Cifuentes and RVN are well below him. Forgot about Paulo Sousa altogether.
Don't get me wrong, Cifuentes and RVN were bad, but they were also victims of inheriting a squad with major mentality issues.
RVN's time in particular ages better as things go on, winning any games at Premier league level with this squad +El Khannouss +Buonanotte -Fatawu -James was not an easy feat. Especially considering how weak the mentality of the team is and that we were losing every week.

Those of you that defended the collapse in 19/20 saying "oh we still finished 5th" despite the lack of professionalism on display.
This is what normalisation and acceptance of those performances leads to.
We can moan about the hierarchy of the club but the complacency of the fans has played a factor as well. There was a belief that "we made it" and for years we weren't allowed to call out gutless displays for what they were because "we were in league one once".
Well now we've got what you wished for, the standards have dropped and we're back to being small fry on the brink of relegation to league one again.
