Yeah, surely Corberan's performance would make them think differently, especially when the club relies so much on the manager rather than spreading responsibility with the sporting director. It's why Enzo leaving hurt us even more.
-
Just seen that Man City have secured two highly rated youngsters from Aston Villa and Tottenham respectively, so underlines what an achievement it was to keep Monga and the other young talents.
-
All making sense now. Vardy leaving, Top wanting a young coach, progressive style of football…welcome back Cambiasso! 😁
-
Tanner on The Final Whistle saying his sources suggest we’ll go for a young, progressive manager with a playing style similar to Enzo as that’s what Top prefers. He thinks Dyche is unlikely on that basis. He says Rohl fits that style but the club currently believe he’s too expensive to buy out of his contract.

Cheers. I think we'd had a horrible run of results, something like 4 or 5 defeats in 7 games so we were moving towards it. But he was the right person for the transition in playing staff, and helped set up the platform for Rodgers to succeed in his first couple of seasons. He had a limited ceiling for how far he could take us. Sadly, the person who took over had a much higher ceiling but a deeper floor as well.

I remember at the time posting on here about how we were significantly underperforming our xG, which suggested our overall style of play was very good - his failure to get the best out of Vardy ultimately cost him (the best example is actually vs Spurs where we lost 3-1 when actually we should have won 3-1!, it was one of the biggest differences in xG to match result). So it seemed like we needed someone to finetune the side, boost the confidence of the team and work with the current strategy rather than wholesale change. It was interesting when he was our manager as it's the closest I feel we got to a coach rather than a manager, and we had a very strong transfer team (Diabate aside which was Puel pick but then he deserves credit for Ricardo as well) so it worked well for us re. recruitment and youth development. But Puel was limited - he did have us near a relegation battle when he was let go but the fundamentals of the club were sound. Problem was that while Rodgers was a much better coach, he wanted complete control and took apart what had made us successful. Reading 'How to Win the Premier League' and it's clear from that how destructive Rodgers likely was given his behaviour at Liverpool, will post on this soon.

Agree on adopting their model to focus on our younger players, as long as that comes with a counter-attacking, physical, high-pressure style. We know a style of possession-based football with a lack of physicality and athleticism won't cut it in the PL.
-
Agree with that except signing "a few experienced players" as not so sure on that. We have a lot of those already - BDCR, Ayew, Winks, Vestergaard etc - and given our likely budget, I think he'll have to rely more on our youth products. Maybe there might be the one or so free transfers (e.g. Mepham) but don't think too many more.
-
I'm happier than I thought I'd be with the idea of Dyche joining. Two of our key issues are defence and general culture, and confident he'd address both. You could imagine Nelson developing particularly well with Dyche given his record with centre-halves. Re. his perceived preference for older players (that @kingfox you've addressed), I don't think we're going to be purchasing many players given PSR except via free transfers so his hand will be forced to turn to youth. But like other posters have said, the switch in playing style would be huge and the players adjusting might well take time.

Doesn’t Pete O’Rourke work for Football Insider who first made the incorrect claims about the manager situation so no wonder he’s saying this to try to explain why they were wrong? Tanner and the most reliable ITKs here said there wasn’t negotiations with Martin, and that all the noise came from his side to add leverage to the Rangers discussion. Worth noting that the same sources who said Martin was a done deal said RvN had been let go but there has been no announcement so makes further takes away their credibility. Whatever the truth, most people didn’t want Martin anyway.

Maybe the start of us using Leuven to buy players that can be developed in the J-League who we can subsequently purchase?
-
Maybe not
-
It was reported he was on our shortlist when we looked for Cooper’s replacement but compensation made it an issue. It’s our MO to follow up with targets - Rodgers and Potter are two examples. Hopefully the club learned their lesson having seen how well Corberan did but not pursuing him for the same reason of compensation.
-
Going to West Ham
-
Linked with Oxlade-Chamberlain, guess it would be a free transfer
-
Was thinking the same. If, as broadly reported we have a very limited budget, we have to focus on a striker. The two key positions in a football team are goalkeeper and striker. We’re well set for the former but we have to invest most of what we have in a reliable goal scorer - focus on getting two forwards. I’d then look at a CM depending on who leaves (we can be confident Soumare goes), although if we have Choudhury, Alves, Winks, Skipp, McAteer (hopefully Fatawu owns the RW position) and Monga in an advanced role, that might well enough.
-
We can rule out Davide Ancelotti:
-
I think Collomosse was right when he said Leicester and Potter would have been a better fit. He’s got a massive job to do at West Ham with owners not known for their patience. I think he would have had a lot more control here as well. But won’t happen now, he’ll want to prove himself there.
-
Guillem Balague will be crying into his soup! His PR job didn’t work for Davide.
-
Tanner said on The Final Whistle channel that there wasn't firm interest in Martin (and any interest would have been doused by the fan reaction), and the noise around his joining came from his side to help his case with Rangers and encourage them to make a decision.
-
Maybe - but think it's actually an access thing. He bigs them up, and in return they give him special access to their clubs, players etc. It's the modern way, you wonder how much further Inzaghi might have got with media supporters like Balague?
-
It's putting me off the club getting Davide, Balague's becoming a parody of himself. I listen to him on EuroLeagues and he has some genuine insights, but then it comes with the shower of ego, self-indulgent crap.
-
This is hilarious - either he’s doing it for engagement or he knows that it’s unlikely his mate Davide is getting the role so a last ditch attempt to try to sway the Rangers owners:
-
Ancelotti, Rohl or Cinel.

@kingfox Bo Svensson keeps coming up when I search with AI for potential managerial candidates. Would he be a good shout in your view?
