Development/Youth Squads 2024/2025 Thread - U18/U21

Take issue with that statement as i don't believe that is the sole job of the academy, and the point when someone can improve the first team is always variable. We should also be producing sellable assets. For sure, we should be aiming to produce superstars as well but when we are currently looking at 14-17 year old kids, we know that the route to get there doesn't happen overnight. I'd love it if every year we chucked out another player that improved our starting 11, but the reality is is doesn't matter what facilities you have - that doesnt happen. As we saw with KDH, he was in his 20's before we could say he improved our squad. I would argue that Jakub improved our squad too, and offers an excellent option for us when Mads leaves. -

Surely the implication from Ruuds statement is that he isn't fighting for his place in training? -

You have no idea if he was the cheaper option as you don't know what sort of salary or signing fee he might have demanded. Resigning out of contract players isn't free. I get it, this deal is atrocious but at the time getting him seemed to make some sense. Sometimes players just dont work out. The worst part is us having no get out clause to deal with that, which is just bad negotiating on our part. None of this means resigning Nacho was a good idea. -

Nah. Just because this deal didn't work doesn't mean we should have offered Nacho anything. Borough fans can't believe how bad he is. At least we wave goodbye to this guy no matter what. -

I agree dumping winks and skipp. But that team also has some incredible academy talent to work with. -

Is he injured? Footmob says injured until early March? -
And closer to seeing a goal. How I would love to see a goal. The sweet sound of the drum kicking in to remind us we need to celebrate. I genuinely think i wont know what to do.

Community shield wasn’t the season and 8th flattered us massively (it was very tight lower half of the table). It set the wheels in motion, including rolling over in the fa cup. Not qualifying for Europe killed us. Rodgers didn’t meet his targets that year, so it was a bad season.
-
No way was the season before relegation a 'good' season.

We are at our worse when the teams are physical and like lumping good crosses. We know thats how Brentford like to play. Arsenal and Spurs seemed to back off us and tried to rely on their skill to break us down (until Arsenal just realised they needed to lump crosses into the box). Just got to pray Brentford have an off day, which they have had a few of this season away.

Got to win this right? Definition of must win?

At youth level its about what is best for the player. Just chucking them in isn't always best for them. -

Surely it depends on whether sticking him on the bench is better for his development that continuing to get the experience and success he is current getting. I don't think it's just a Ruud decision, especially as he is just 17. Agree about our current attackers though! -
Its odd though, because our best chances came from Ndidi (cross from Vik) and Ayew not long before Arsenal's first goal. But i think Ndidi makes a huge difference to the defence do we now need to throw the dice up front more.
-
Generally when goals are score, you will see defenders near the scorer. And the goal keeper.
-
Ndidi being back has proven to me that we can take more of a risk up top. Ayew and Reid can make appearances when we have to sub Ndidi. Hermansen JJ if fit, otherwise Woyo Faes Okoli Kristensen Soumare Ndidi Buonanotte El Khannouss Mavididi Daka Ndid cant last the full 90, so we might as well start strong. Ayew appears when Ndidi can't run anymore.

The defensive line has been changing gradually game on game. Against Arsenal it was very high. I felt we played the offside trap very well in both games and deserved a draw in each. I would argue our defence has been a lot more organised in the last 2 games and that this has led to overall better games from us. -
I respect everyone's right to protest, but i'm also allowed to have an opinion on those protests. A van showing pictures of the DOF as a clown etc is poor and I was deeply disappointed by it. The season you come up is always hard, and i wish we had seen more of a siege mentality from our fans. I would like change. I want to see us run as a more data orientated club and use the resources we have to utilise technology better. Not convinced this is going to get us there, but if people want to do it this way then so be it.
-
Mavididi was an absolute plonker for that first. If you want to see the advert for why Ruud plays Ayew, it's right there. The cross from Victor was clearly part of the tactics, and Mavididi has refused to play it all season, and in this case drifting centalling and cheaply gives the ball away - and we are screwed on the counter.
-
Really struggling with the criticism here. Victor covered some serious ground yesterday and moments like his cross to Wilf yesterday provided the few chances we had. In the warm up, he was banging in crosses from the left, so this was clearly the role he had been asked to play, so Mavididi not utilising him and then cheaply losing the ball was stupid. Last 10 mins you could see the game had taken its toll on him, but i could see the effort being put in. Most of our fans are gassed heading for half time drinks at 42 mins. His positioning was poor for the 2nd for sure, but to just call him out as 'shite' is ridiculous.

The lost to Southampton the other day. Unless Wolves pull of a miracle tomorrow, everything is still to play for.
-
Ah fu?& it’s match day!

And then get injured?
