I think we need to see what Ruud wants to do with our fullbacks. JJ has had a hard time of it through a combination of tactical changes for the fullbacks, system changes to the team and of course his own individual errors or shortcomings. If Ruud went with an inverted fullback and JJ played LB like the back end of last season that might be a suitable solution for him as VK doesn't want to do that. Outside of that his place in the team is probably safe due to a lack of options. Unless Ruud is ok playing someone out of position there.

The midfield yesterday was 2 man vs a the 3 man of Brentford. The whole setup was a clusterfxxk of poor ideas and execution. If you look at the positions of both midfields yesterday you'll also see that the 3 of Brentford were spread across the pitch while Soumare and Wilf were basically wearing the same boots. So a man less and occupying the same space.

We're all aware of what a clearance stat indicates yeah? It's not goalline clearances, it's simply clearing the ball into an area of the pitch considered to be neutral. So kicking it into empty space up the pitch, clearing it into the final 3rd or simply blasting it out for a throw in. Getting a '1' on your clearance stat doesn't mean you stopped a goal. It's seriously reaching if that's the crux of the argument in his favour.
