Went to Beeston on Saturday which has 3 unbelievably good pubs for an outer city suburb: The Victoria, Star and Crown. The Crown was probably the pick of the bunch and had one of the best beer selections I've ever seen full stop. What's strange is that The Crown is an Everards pub (you wouldn't know it), which means the best Everards pub by a country mile is in Nottingham. How has this been allowed to happen!? If you live in Barrow/Sileby you can get the train directly to Beeston, which takes about 25 mins.

It's pretty good in there - it's better to be in the restaurant at the back. Perfect after a few beers in the Fox Cub before!

Haha I had exactly the same last night! Though it was a good pint. Followed by a curry in the Three Crowns. I’m finding that it’s actually pretty well priced in there?

Also you have **** all money as a student so more likely to be drinking crates of Stella in Halls than paying £6.50 for an IPA in a nice pub.

Syston, Sileby and Barrow are connected to Leicester by train but that trainline is every hour and unreliable. There's also good pub options in those villages. In the shire itself Mountsorrel has got to be the best pub place per capita.

Also Leicester doesn't really benefit from tourism or hen/stags

On a per capita basis I reckon Loughborough is better than Leicester. Don't know Hinckley well enough to judge.

I'm a big fan of the desi pubs myself, but i wonder if we'll ever get anywhere that serves good beer and can replicate a proper pub whilst serving Indian food.

yeh fair. I imagine Stoke and Bradford perform similar. London obv has great pubs, but per capita does it perform as strongly? For me York is number one based on this metric.

Agreed it's not great, but Millstone lane with the Globe and the Castle not too far away is a decent little crawl/area.

I found some decent craft beers when I was in Croatia. The Garden Brewery was the most prevalent one from memory

Great trip to Southwold at the weekend. Adnams really does make the town what it is with their brewery, hotels, pubs and beer. I'm not usually the biggest fan of the Adnams cask ales, but the Mosaic Pale Ale on Cask (which I've only ever seen on keg outside Southwold) was really good. I also rated their Nitro Porter "Blackshore Stout". Did the brewery tour yesterday which was also very enjoyable. They let you taste some of the cask ales fresh from the factory which was eye opening. Not the cheapest place, but I think a lot of people on this thread would enjoy it there.

It certainly is! Great for picking up recommendations. I didn't even realise there was a Farringdon Tap until you mentioned it, which happens to be right by my office. Will be paying it a visit next time I'm down! Also got a load of other London ones on my list from here too. Untapped is also great fun. Me and @westernpark could do with some more friends on there!

Third night on the trot down the Fox Club in Barrow since it opened on Tuesday. A great addition to the village!

Exactly, it’s all about getting it back into your routine! I was pretty good from Jan to May and then it’s gone to shit this summer. Summer is always going to be hard with the weather. No excuses from September onwards!

I need to get back into running after eating and drinking far too much this summer. I was hoping to do the Cambridge half marathon in March but it's already sold out! Anyone recommend any good 10k/half marathons back end of this year?

York as a base, and then you've got lots of options for day trips: Harrogate, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire Moors, Whitby, and Robin Hood's bay.

Just got back from Belfast yesterday. Managed to tick off a fair few of the pubs: John Hewitt, Duke of York, Kelly's, Maddens, The Sunflower, The Garrick and the Crown. Such a good pub city with a great variety of pubs. I struggled to even get a seat in some places on a Monday night! Seemed to be slightly more expansive beer options than Dublin too, but still quite a bit less than you get here. Certainly not the prettiest city, but there's a buzz about the place and it seems to be thriving from tourism atm.

Done some great pubs over the last week: Wednesday: White Lion Rempstone Thursday: Ye Olde Mitre Holborn London Friday: Colmore Birmingham Saturday: Navigation Barrow, Pinsent and Swan Mountsorrel Sunday I had my homebrewed American Pale Ale from my Pinter which I've bought recently. Was very pleasantly surprised! In desperate need of a few weeks off so I don't end up looking like Alan Brazil... Then it's back on it in Belfast and Southwold

It's definitely worth trying it out if you haven't been. There's a small bar and seating area inside and little beer garden out the back. Nice atmosphere and good draft beer selection- It was pretty full when I went. It does feel a bit intimate and cliquey inside with the clientele, but everyone seemed friendly enough.

A load of Abbeydale Deception in the Navigation Barrow Friday night. Down in London on Saturday. Went to The Auld Shillelagh in Stoke Newington which was pleasant enough, but one of these hype Guinness places that you have queue up for 15 mins to get a beer. Went to Pinsent in Mountsorrel for the first time today which was also decent but deffo prefer the Swan!

It's one of their "Partner Pubs". Red Lion is the same.

I think I prefer Adnams' keg beer to their cask beer. They used to do one called Spindrift that I really liked but I don't think they do it anymore. If you're still there today head to the Randloph just down the road in Reydon- great beer garden!
