  1. What's the one in Nottingham? Not the Kean's Head is it
  2. Nice, Soho Tavern is the one I've heard rave reviews about. I think I'll do a day in Birmingham next year to sample it! Apart from Birmingham though, Leicester has to be one of the top places in the UK. I went to Uni in Liverpool and it's shocking up there . Few good hotspots in London (Harrow/Southall) but mostly overrated. They all bang on about Tayyabs- so average.
  3. I went to Hen and Chickens in Birmingham a few years ago and was very impressed! I need to do the same with my mates. Which ones do you rate the highest over there?
  4. Thought I'd revive this thread. I've tried a few new ones this year: Royal Leicesters, Clowes, Ghurka at the Wyvern, and Ghurka New Delhi (Mountsorrel). Wasn't too impressed with Royal Leicesters, Clowes was decent, the food at Ghurka at the Wyvern was very good but it's a bit of a dive, and was really impressed with Ghurka New Delhi (can have a few beers in either the Swan or Sorrel Fox before). Still think Paddy's, Little Club and Broadway are the best. If you just like a standard curry and rice then you aren't doing these places right. It's all about the mixed grills, lamb chops, crispy chicken, tilapia fish, cripsy aubergine, chilli chips, mogo etc (basically the dishes you can't get in a standard Bangladeshi curry house). The Desi Pub scene in Leicester is quality atm and something we can actually be proud of. I lived in London for 5 years and the curry scene down there is nothing on Leicester. Ones for next year: The Taj, What A Shot and Himalaya
  5. I understand the frustration about people leaving early, but the lack of atmosphere should get people more riled up. Would you rather have people that contribute to the atmosphere and leave on 85 mins, or people that sit in silence and moan for 90 mins but stay and clap the players off at the end? Ideally you'd have the best of both, but I'd take the former in that scenario. I actually thought the atmosphere wasn't too bad yesterday (for us) and an improvement on the Watford game. The Union FS lads looked like they were really going for it (hats off) and I could hear that section a fair bit. It does look like (judging from hands above head in the distance) that a fair amount of people around that section just stand and don't join in? Like what is the point, just wasting seats for other people. Unfortunately there isn't much we can do unless the club creates a designated stand for everyone to congregate together, which I highly doubt will happen. Basically we need the Middlesbrough model. Sure, there would still be loads of silent periods, but we'd get proper lift offs after goals and periods of good atmosphere. One of the things we can do is to clean up our songbook. I've got lots of ideas on this, but it would have to come from UFS really.
  6. I agree with this. Joey Barton has made himself look like a complete tit and obviously anyone can talk about football. However the current status quo is too far in favour of the tokenism. For example, if Don Goodman and David Prutton suddenly appeared as pundits on Champions League football everyone would rightly be like WTF...
  7. I went about 3/4 years ago. I just thought it was a bit bland and depressing inside. Has it changed much over the last 4 years? I'll give it another go. Sounds great. The Castle is the same owner as the White Hart in Loughborough which is a brilliant pub. I'm going to do a bit of a pub crawl for the Rotherham game before Xmas so will deffo be ticking that one off! My painter is proper old school (only drinks real ale) and he will only go to the Salmon in Leicester Used to go to the Cherry Tree when I was 17 as it was easy to get served haha What are your favourite village and suburb pubs in Leicestershire out of interest?
  8. I went to the King's Head a few times when I worked on New Walk- I wasn't a massive fan. Always thought the Hind looked like a right dive but will give it a try as there's no other options! Sadly all the decent pubs are the other side of town. I don't mind the Marquis but it's a little out the way.
  9. It's so frustrating how's there's literally no decent pubs around the station or en route from the station to the ground. I come in from Barrow and find myself drinking at Hotel Brooklyn which is essentially having a pint at an upmarket Premier Inn. Even more frustrating when you compare this to Nottingham where there's loads of good pubs within 2 minutes of the station. I'll give the Real Ale Classroom ago for the Plymouth game but it's still a slight detour. Would happily sack off the station redevelopment to have the Parcel Yard back
  10. Paddy's, Broadway or Three Kilns for a pure mixed grill. However Indian Queen does the best lamb chops! In terms of overall offering I think Paddy's and Little Club are the best in Leicester.
