I thought that same thing as an outsider Respect to Martin for standing and having a conversation with him in the first place. Also, think he’s right with some of the points he makes, but his unequivocal determination to play this brand of football makes him wrong. I do think he’ll end up doing enough to get you to the playoffs, the relative quality is just so much higher than anyone else in the league and there will be enough times where that is sufficient on its own (Stockport). However, that in itself would be a failure as you should win this league comfortably.

It’s the same as Amorim at Man Utd. A manager who is proudly rigid in their gameplan, which means the entire world know exactly how they will play regardless of personnel on the pitch meaning it’s fairly easy to set up to beat them. Whilst most managers have a philosophy, they alter that depending on the opposition.

My understanding is they can expel them from the PL but it gets very messy as the EFL would have to accept them, but at what level and to the expense of which other team? The ‘cleanest’ route would be a significant points deduction to almost certainly guarantee relegation (80-100 points). Although, with their revenue, they’ll loan a few players out to save on wages and bounce back up immediately with probably the biggest points tally ever. They’ll then immediately be back in the top 4 with players back and PL money flowing once more. Not much of a punishment. If I was going to hazard a complete guess, I’d say: 1. Significant points deduction 2. Significant fine (which is essentially a ‘pay off’ compensation to all clubs impacted [a % going to every club to have played in the PL during the period]) 3. Transfer ban of multiple windows/years 4. Ban from the right to qualify for European competition for a number of seasons Although based on Man City’s statement today they’ll exhaust every appeal option and the case could rumble on for some time. Whether those punishments are enough is a big question. Man City have been able to grow their entire club, including their stadium, training complex and revenue due to this rule breaking. They now have an irreversible advantage on other clubs year-on-year, which was obtained through cheating. However, there is no punishment that will remove that sporting advantage. It’s a bit of a dilemma for me as I completely disagree with their actions but I also disagree entirely with the anti-competitive rules that were put in place which they broke. As we have to sell Anderson and Minteh for purely financial reasons, along with the inability to hold onto players like Bruno, Isak and Tonali as other clubs can pay them more, it’s a slap in the face to see Man City circumvent the rules we’re trying to comply with.

Colour me shocked that a team that is worth x10 their opponents, with an extra man on the field, can occasionally put a nice passing move together. In comparison, if Man City just drew 1-1 against 10 man Middlesbrough (who are x10 their value), I reckon they might have played a couple of decent moves too. I’m not sure that is necessarily down to Martin’s exceptional plan A.

If your players cannot cope with a mild mannered moan or groan, the problem is their mentality, not the fans. Toxic would be Marseille ultras storming the training ground to demand the sacking of the manager. Half of Leicester’s stadium going “urghh” when a ball is passed sideways to a player already marked isn’t the problem here. Even if that brief groan does have an impact, that is on the manager setting an impossible style of play. If you know the culture and fans aren’t in a great place, why not get out and attack teams and get them on their feet? There are no leaders in the Leicester side that care enough about the club. Who is your most senior Academy player? Thomas? Who’d seemingly rather be out with his mates at the pub than turning the club around. It’s not surprise for example that Spurs capitulated when Kane left, whilst they miss his goals, they miss his leadership and standard setting more.

Such a load of bollocks. Like saying you’ll happily be homeless because you owned a house once. Ignoring the fact you lost that house because your wife ran off with another man due to your erectile dysfunction developed by your excessive drinking and you gambled all your money away. Had enough people not had this attitude, maybe you’d have managed to make sufficient of a stand to intervene and get Rogers sacked earlier, people like Cooper never appointed, or Top selling the club at a healthy position in the PL.

A manager’s contract and compensation are rarely straightforward and there are multiple ways of doing it. 1. Some managers may have break clauses and specific compensation amounts (usually less than their entire contract value) built into their contract. For example, you could sack RM within 1 season for very little compensation. 2. When RM is sacked, rather than paying him compensation you can continue to pay his contract until he finds another job. This is why a lot of clubs bring in an interim, usually from within the club, as it costs them very little and the ex-manager will often pick up a new job meaning they get to stop paying them. 3. When RM is sacked, he gets x amount (usually a negotiated settlement less than the entire contract value) as a one off payment. There can be an additional clause that RM has to pay x amount back, if he finds another job before the end of his Leicester contract. This is why you see some managers take a lengthy period out (like Potter after leaving Chelsea) as they’re on the contract of a lifetime. The media always report the dramatic cost of the entire contract but club accounts often demonstrate that is not the way it works. It’s also why negotiations for managers can take time and sometimes fall through, it’s not just the basic wage they are negotiating, it is their future safety net.

You say this, I agree by the way, but football is such a “jobs for the boys”, that he doesn’t. He’ll eventually leave Leicester but you can guarantee another club will take him on, probably at a far higher level than he should be at. As soon as you’re on the merry go round, you’re laughing. The only criteria for being a manager in 2026 is being an ex-player. There would be, imo, so many talented people who would do better than 90% of these donkeys. It’s why managers can be so rigid and know better than anyone else, there is no consequence. If they fail they get a handsome payout followed by a new job whenever they fancy it.

Out of interest, why?

I was able to watch this game due to there being very little other football on and having a spare few hours. I said last week that the method of beating a Martin side is just having a pacy and clinical striker. What I saw last night just reaffirmed that. Plymouth could/should have been 1 or 2 up before you got going, but they were absolutely dire from an attacking sense. His desire to play it out will see at least a couple of chances given up every game, whether the opposition are good enough to punish will be the question. I thought you then came into it, with some nice pacy attacking play and dominated 30 minutes to 60 minutes. The two goals were pretty bad from a Plymouth perspective but I think you were good value for 2 goals. However, naturally, you then allowed Plymouth to play and sat back a bit on the lead. This gave them a bit of confidence and suddenly towards the end they could have made it very interesting or even got a draw if it wasn’t for three very good saves. The Plymouth number 9, Evans, was absolutely terrible. Either offside, fouling an opponent or bundling around like the ball was a hot potato. I thought Alves, Howell and Page were the best three players on the pitch. It’s no surprise Plymouth came back into it when 2 of the 3 exited the pitch. Overall, encouragement coupled with some already known deficiencies. Based on my limited knowledge, I’d say you’ll have a season of performances like the last 3. Some reasonably comfortable wins combined with a number of poor performances and results, ending up in the playoffs (where you’d be favourites but anything can happen). I think Huddersfield and Sheff Weds go up automatically and will take some catching similar to Lincoln and Cardiff last year.

It’s the fans fault Leicester didn’t get a point today because they were unhappy at being 2-0 down with 10 men. This level of delusion is what’ll keep Top at the club taking the piss. Mad how clapping the players didn’t stop the first two goals going in.

The difference between the comparable budgets of Leicester and Southampton vs Leicester and Burton should be fairly self explanatory. Leicester were not head and shoulders above their competitors last season. Even still, you’re sort of proving my point that failure was not down to resources last season either, it was down to complete mismanagement.

The team who won the League One title at a canter last season didn’t have a player in the top 21 scorers in the league. Leicester’s squad, despite its flaws, is comfortably the best team on every metric; experience, wage bill, cost, and so on. I haven’t looked but that probably applies across all time rather than just this season. Okoli individually is worth more than the entire Notts County squad. Any failure this season is not down to resources and it would be ludicrous to suggest otherwise.

Having been taken over by a public investment fund for a well known country of exceptional human rights, it’s a regular discussion point for us. Most supporters do not engage with celebrating the ownership, there was the odd idiot who dressed up or bought a Saudi flag to the opening games but these disappeared relatively quickly. Options available to a modern day football club: 1. A sports washing vehicle for a country of appalling human rights. 2. An advert for an energy drink company. 3. American ownership plunged into debt bringing all of the horrendous ideas of American sport with them. 4. A vanity campaign for a celebrity or group of celebrities to create a Netflix documentary. 5. Part of a multi-club model, essentially becoming a feeder club for top of the chain. Take your pick. The days of football clubs being owned by a local businessman are long gone. There should be (but won’t be) rules bought in to protect clubs seeing a majority stake needing to be owned by local communities or businesses. The financial model of football is broken and the game is worse for it.

Support in general is nothing like it used to be. You can go on any football forum and see similar threads. Our away support is atrocious compared to what it used to be. Not helped by similar issues to what I’m reading here where there are a monopoly of supporters with access to tickets and most others locked out. Doesn’t help that the younger supporters are more interested in getting into a cubicle to sniff up a bag of talc. With the significant Americanisation of football and the focus of clubs on bringing in as much money as possible to satisfy uncompetitive financial rules, it’ll only get worse. Seems like a ridiculous thing to say, but kiosks in stadiums used to just be a revolving door of lukewarm burgers and pints of average lager. Now, you’ll see people walking off with a bento box, side of sweet potato fries and a tango ice blast… complete shift in demographic of the supporter.
