  1. Minimum salaries breakthrough for WSL and WSL 2 BBC Sport women’s football news reporter Minimum salaries for players in the top two tiers of professional women's football in England are being introduced for the first time this season. It is one of the requirements brought in by WSL Football - the company overseeing England's professional leagues. WSL Football would not disclose what the minimum level will be, but it is described as a "full-time wage". It is expected the salary range will be made public when the updated WSL and WSL 2 regulations are published later this season. The salaries will be based on thresholds such as the age of players, what league they are playing in, and their experience in the game following consultation with the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA). "We feel that's a really positive move. We have so many players who have had to juggle part-time roles while playing football," WSL Football's chief operating officer Holly Murdoch told BBC Sport. "Being able to ensure all our players can earn a full-time wage from football is very, very important. I would say it's the start as it's a framework we can develop on. "We have worked really closely with the PFA on what those thresholds should look like. We will be reviewing that constantly." On top of minimum salary requirements, clubs must meet increased criteria around high-performance environments. It comes after a multi-year partnership was agreed between WSL Football and Nike. Part of the agreement will see Nike provide football boots and goalkeeper gloves to all players in the WSL and WSL 2 who do not have an endorsement deal. There is also a new collaboration with external company Kyniska Advocacy - an athlete-led organisation aimed at evolving new standards for safeguarding. All players will gain access to their confidential support service as an independent route for raising welfare concerns. "We know that due to the fact the game has grown so rapidly, we have disparity. Part of that creates a competitive advantage, so there are elements we have to mandate," added Murdoch. "One of the requirements will be to have a 'performance wellbeing' role. We will be asking all clubs to employ that role full-time by the end of this season. "We want to make sure we are preparing our players for life on the pitch, both mentally and physically, as well as off it. That role is critical." The 2025-26 WSL season begins on Friday as champions Chelsea face Manchester City at Stamford Bridge, on the back of England winning a second consecutive European Championship title.

The Australian international joined Birmingham in January 2025 after leaving NWSL side San Diego Wave, where she made 70 appearances across all competitions. Van Egmond signed a 2.5-year deal with Birmingham and narrowly missed out on promotion to the WSL after London City Lionesses beat them to it. Now, the Australian midfielder could still return to England’s top flight if Leicester City are able to strike a deal. She previously played in the WSL during the 2020/21 season, when she was loaned to West Ham United before signing permanently. Leicester City Sack Head Coach If Van Egmond signs for Leicester City, her head coach remains uncertain. The club sacked Amandine Miquel just 11 days before their WSL opener against Manchester United on Sunday, September 7. Miquel, who had only been in charge for one season, secured a 10th-place finish last term, ensuring the club’s survival in the WSL. An experienced manager with seven years at the helm of Reims in France, she had signed a three-year deal with Leicester, which has now been cut short. Reports suggest the club are eyeing Matt Beard as her replacement. Leicester City Women Transfer News Leicester have also announced the signing of Heather Payne on a two-year deal. The Republic of Ireland international spent the past two seasons with Everton in the Women’s Super League. She began her career with Peamount United before moving to Bristol City in 2018. Payne then spent four years in the American college system before signing for Everton in 2023. On the international stage, she has earned more than 50 caps for the Republic of Ireland.
  5. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/inside-track-new-leicester-city-10470556#comments-wrapper Inside track on new Leicester City signing with key quality unlocked by Wayne Rooney The lowdown on Jordan James after the Wales international midfielder moved to the King Power Stadium on an initial season-long loan switch from Rennes ByJordan Blackwell 07:00, 3 SEP 2025 Leicester City were first linked with midfielder Jordan James more than two years ago, long before he scored a brace against Enzo Maresca’s side at St Andrew’s. Those rumours persisted and now, following a deadline-day swoop, James is a City player. While it’s only a season-long loan for now, if he impresses, City do have a buy option that could see them make the move permanent. But what can they expect from the 21-year-old? He’s been away in France for the past year and should return a more mature player for that experience, the Wales international stepping out of his comfort zone. But it was at Birmingham where he made his name, playing 105 games for the Blues before last summer’s transfer to Rennes. So we’ve been in touch with BirminghamLive’s Blues correspondent Alex Dicken to get the lowdown on James’ time on the other side of the Midlands. This article contains affiliate links, we will receive a commission on any sales we generate from it. Learn more What were James’ pros and cons while at Birmingham? AD: James was an excellent athlete during his time at Blues. Tony Mowbray often commented on his pace and power through midfield and it was something we actually first saw under Wayne Rooney. Of all the issues Rooney created for Blues, he actually started to unlock James' potential as a goal-scoring midfielder. Leicester fans will remember those two goals he scored against them in December 2023. He could have taken greater care in possession at times for Blues and he wasn't always trusted to play deeper in midfield, despite often insisting that he preferred to play at number six rather than in the more advanced positions he was fielded in during his final season at St Andrew's. What’s his best position? AD: As mentioned above, James believed his best position was deeper in midfield as a number six, which is where he started his international career with Wales, but Rooney and others thought he was better suited further forward where his athleticism and finishing ability could come to the fore. James is capable of forging a good career as a goal-scoring number eight. Mowbray played him wide left at times to force him into the XI and it didn't really work. What’s he like as a character? AD: He doesn't lack confidence! Even when Blues were struggling during that period under Rooney, James wasn't. He oozes confidence in his own ability and was generally popular with his more experienced teammates. What’s his ceiling? AD: Long-term I can definitely see him in the Premier League. It's easy to forget that he is still only 21. I would think that he needs to improve in possession to realise that ambition but athletically it's all there.
  6. Rock and a hard place, It's possible, seeing that it was a late move that he had the choice of no games for Brighton or a few for Chelsea plus getting himself known which wont happen not playing for Brighton Being under contract is not helping him.
  7. Didn't someone say this is the last year of her contract? If so getting £100k + for her is surely better than nothing in 12 months time. You've got to hope they use some of it to improve the rest of the squad.
  8. Then bring them on later in the game if it's still zero. Anyway just my thoughts who knows what he'll do.
  9. I'm thinking more about the players who have won the last to games giving their all to keep a clean sheet as well as a win. Do they deserve to be replaced straight off?
  10. On the sky sports app etc
  11. I think he may want to stick to the team that have won the last 2 games without conceding, credit where credit is due unless there's a tactical reason for change but as it's Oxford who are on 4 0 1 3 @ 4-7 GD I shouldn't think he'd need to change tactics.
  12. I can't see any of the 3 additions starting against Oxford subbed on yeah but not straight in.
  13. History of Leicestershire in Images Mervin Wallace · THE HINCKLEY SPITFIRE Purchased for the War effort by the townspeople of Hinckley, Leicestershire, Hinckley's Spitfire had a long and varied career with the Royal Air Force during World War Two. Designated P.7916 it was built at Castle Bromwich in Birmingham and powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin XII engine. It was armed with eight wing-mounted Browning .303 machine guns. The plane was assigned to 145 squadron stationed at Tangmere on the 22nd February 1941 to be piloted regularly by a Flight Lieutenant Newling who took it on patrols around the Selsey, Shoreham, Littlehampton, Beachy Head and St. Catherines Head areas. There were also some convoy and offensive patrols that it was involved with at the time. Douglas Bader took over the command at Tangmere in March 1941 and during his command the 'Spit' flown by a Sergeant Johnson crashed on landing on the 27th of that month. However it was quickly repaired and was "up and flying" with the same pilot three days later. The squadron moved to Merston on the 28th May and patrols carried on but the plane was used by other pilots for the many practices which had to be carried out. These included scrambles, mock interceptions and dog-fights, and aerobatics and gunnery. Among its pilots was Squadron Leader Leather. In the first of its many transfers it was sent to 485 squadron at Leconfield which was manned by New Zealanders. The records are a bit thin on its career with the 485 but it was flown over France in sweeps to engage the enemy and also flown on convoy patrols. Late August 1941 found P.7916 with 130 squadron at Portreath in Cornwall. The C.O. Squadron Leader C.J. Donovan seems to have taken a liking to the "Hinckley" as no-one else records having flown it until mid October. He flew her on convoy patrols, operations over France and practice attacks on troop-carrying gliders. Donovan was replaced as C.O. by Squadron Leader Gibbs on the 9th October and he too used the plane a great deal. At the end of that month the squadron moved to Harrowbeer, also in Cornwall, where Pilot Officer Arnott became a regular pilot of the 'Spit' flying on sweeps and patrols. On the 17th November it joined the newly-formed Eagle Squadron (133) where it spent a lot of time with practice on formation flying, scrambles, interceptions, aerobatics and air-firing interspersed with the occasional convoy patrols during December. On the 31st December the Spitfire joined yet another squadron seeing the New Year in with 134 Squadron which had just returned from Russia. They had left their own Hurricanes with the Soviet forces after helping them to familiarise with the aircraft. On reforming, the squadron carried out many operational practices together with convoy patrols to the north of Ireland. Both 133 and 134 were stationed at Eglington in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. On the 26th March 1942 134 moved to Baginton and soon after the plane left the squadron. Over the next two years it was stationed at various Officer Training Units in northern England. These were respectively 57, 52 and 58 O.T.Us. Unfortunately there are no flight records for this period. The "Hinckley" left 58 O.T.U. on the 30th of June 1944 to be flown at the Fighter Leaders School at Milfield. This establishment was opened in January '44 by Air Chief Marshal T. Leigh-Mallory who was Air Commander-in-Chief Allied Expeditionary Air Force. His words were "to train officers in readiness for Overlord." which was the code-name • for the planned invasion on the mainland of Europe and took place on the 6th of June that year. The "Hinckley" Spitfire reached the end of her career on the 26th of January 1945 when she was declared to have "deteriorated beyond repair". She survived a long time by the standards of those days due to the flying skill of her pilots and the excellent work of the ground crews and gave valuable service to her country both in combat and the training of new pilots. SPITFIRE FUND PRESENTATION AIRCRAFT In order to raise funds for the war effort the 'Spitfire Fund' was created. The cost of a Spitfire was set at a nominal £5000 and individuals, businesses and communities could have a Spitfire inscribed with a name of their choice if the requisite amount was raised. The funds eventually raised over £13 million.

  16. According to the Merc it's 21 Players City have to register: Stolarczyk, Begovic, Ricardo, Choudhury, Okoli, Vestergaard, Souttar, Faes, Kristiansen, L Thomas, Skipp, Winks, James, Soumare, Ramsey, De Cordova-Reid, Marcal, Mavididi, Ayew, Carranza, Daka. Players considered under-21s: Bausor, Nelson, Aluko, Page, Golding, Fatawu, Evans, Monga, S Thomas. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-city-can-sign-four-10469218 Leicester City can sign four free agents with former favourite available after contract annulled Leicester City have plenty of room for free agents although Marti Cifuentes is not likely to be eager to add more players to his squad, given his preference for a small group ByJordan Blackwell 12:32, 2 SEP 2025 Leicester City are set to have four available slots for free agent signings, and with one of the club’s former favourites available after cancelling his contract. Championship sides are allowed a maximum of 25 players in their official squad list but do not need to register players considered under-21s. For this campaign, players born in 2004 or later are considered under-21s, meaning nine of Marti Cifuentes’ 30-man group would not need to be registered in City's 25-man squad. New signing Jordan James was born in 2004, but will need to go onto the 25-man list because all loanees have to be registered no matter their age. Still, City have plenty of scope to bring in free agents, albeit their enthusiasm to do so may be limited. That’s especially true for Cifuentes, who still has a big group to work with despite his eagerness to streamline his squad. One of the most interesting names among the available free agents is former City striker Kelechi Iheanacho. The Nigerian cancelled his contract with Sevilla on deadline day, meaning he is free to sign for whichever club wants him. Iheanacho only joined Sevilla last summer, on a free transfer from City, but failed to make an impact and spent the second half of the season on loan at Middlesbrough. He didn’t get on especially well there either. In all, he played 26 games last season for the two clubs, scoring four goals. The 28-year-old is now seeking a new club and may yet get a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic. Adam Idah left Celtic Park to move to Swansea on deadline day, but with no striker arriving in his place, leaving Rodgers short of options in attack. There have been reports that the Scottish champions will now make a move for Iheanacho. While occasionally frustrating, Iheanacho delivered in periods during his seven years at City, finishing with 61 goals and 36 assists in 232 games. He was instrumental in the club’s FA Cup success and he remains the club’s all-time leading cup goalscorer. Players City have to register: Stolarczyk, Begovic, Ricardo, Choudhury, Okoli, Vestergaard, Souttar, Faes, Kristiansen, L Thomas, Skipp, Winks, James, Soumare, Ramsey, De Cordova-Reid, Marcal, Mavididi, Ayew, Carranza, Daka. Players considered under-21s: Bausor, Nelson, Aluko, Page, Golding, Fatawu, Evans, Monga, S Thomas.
  17. Story of Leicester The Haymarket Shopping Centre during construction, 24th April 1973. Construction began in 1971 and from this view along Humberstone Gate you can see the new shopping centre linked Littlewoods at the Clock Tower with C&A which was on the corner of Charles Street and Humberstone Gate. Do you remember visiting when it was new? Or maybe you remember going to Burton on the right corner here for a new shirt or suit?

  19. https://shekicks.net/rick-passmoor-leicester-city-notts-county-leeds-united/ Rick Passmoor set to take over as interim Leicester City manager 2nd September 2025 Carrie Dunn Reports suggest that the confirmation is imminent. Passmoor was most recently assistant coach to Rehanne Skinner at West Ham United, but has a long track record in the women’s game. He has had two spells as manager of Leeds United Ladies. In the first, from 2007, he led his side to the Women’s FA Cup final and finished third in the FA Women’s Premier League (the domestic top tier prior to the launch of the Women’s Super League) in 2007-08. In the second, starting in the 2022-23 season, the team won the FA Women’s National League Plate. Players who progressed through Passmoor’s Leeds side included future Lionesses Ellen White, Steph Houghton, Jade Moore, Carly Telford and Jess Clarke, current Ireland coach Carla Ward, and noted co-commentator Lucy Ward. In the WSL era, Passmoor was manager of Lincoln Ladies, who became Notts County Women before they withdrew from the league in 2017. Their 2015 season was notably successful, reaching the finals of the Women’s FA Cup and the League Cup. A player with Scunthorpe United in the mid-1980s, Passmoor has also worked in men’s football, initially with the Iron as an assistant and with the youth set-up. In 2000, he moved to Leeds United as senior academy coach, working with young players who went on to the professional game, including Sam Byram, Kalvin Phillips, Fabian Delph, Tom Cairney and Lewis Cook, as well as his work with the women’s team. Passmoor returned to Scunthorpe United in 2018, first as youth development manager and later as head of coaching and coach development. Leicester City’s managerial merry-go-round Leicester City announced the departure of previous manager Amandine Miquel last week. She took over in July 2024, and led the side to a 10th-place finish, with 20 points from 22 games. A statement from the club at the time thanked Miquel and her assistant Amaury Messuwe, wishing them the best for the future, and added: “The squad continues its preparations under the wider coaching team ahead of the new WSL season.” They are now seeking their fifth permanent manager in four years following the tenures of Jonathan Morgan, Lydia Bedford, Willie Kirk and Miquel. Matt Beard, the former Liverpool manager, left his role at Burnley last week after two months and had been linked with the role, but has been placed on three months of gardening leave. Leicester City begin their WSL campaign with a visit to Manchester United at Leigh Sports Village on Sunday, September 7th.
