https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/leicester-citys-outstanding-talent-set-10478938 Leicester City's 'outstanding' talent set for debut as deadline-day deal provides future boost Newport County manager has been discussing the qualities of midfielder Sammy Braybrooke as he gets set to feature for the League Two club against Bristol Rovers this weekend ByJordan Blackwell 14:45, 5 SEP 2025 Newport manager David Hughes has taken two Leicester City players on loan, including the 'outstanding' Sammy Braybrooke Sammy Braybrooke is in line for his Newport County debut this weekend with the Leicester City midfielder branded “technically outstanding” by his new boss David Hughes. Braybrooke and City striker Nathan Opoku joined the Exiles on half-season loans on deadline day and are both in contention to feature against Bristol Rovers on Saturday lunchtime. After a spell at Dundee in the first half of last season, Braybrooke will get a second chance in men’s football with Newport and is already receiving rave reviews from their manager that suggest he could become a starter at Rodney Parade. If so, that's only got to help the 21-year-old's development and potentially aid his route into the senior squad at City. “Sammy is an outstanding footballer, tenacious and technically outstanding,” said Hughes. “He understands the game and you clearly don't play for England at the age groups he has without having a huge amount of ability. That’s positive. “Sammy was one we’d spoken about for some time. We watched his games at Dundee and he showed the tenacity to be able to handle men's football. “He’s adapted well. He’s a lovely guy. He is humble, grounded and aware of what the expectations are here for everybody that pulls on a shirt. “He can see a pass, travel with the ball, has really good delivery at set plays. He’s definitely a competitor, he can handle the ball really well under pressure. “Let’s not put pressure on him too soon but he’s trained all week and let’s see what that looks like come kick-off.” Opoku will also be hoping to feature after returning from a long injury lay-off at the end of last season. The 24-year-old suffered a leg break at the end of his 18-month loan to OH Leuven and needed 12 months to recover. The pair are two of eight players out on loan from City. As well as senior players Bilal El Khannouss (Stuttgart), Woyo Coulibaly (Sassuolo) and Will Alves (Huddersfield), City have loaned out Tom Wilson-Brown (Swindon), Henry Cartwright (Falkirk) and Jayden Joseph (Tranmere).

Why Everton broke record fee for Macepublished at 13:21 British Summer Time 13:21 BST Matthew Hobbs BBC Sport Image source,Getty Images Image caption, Ruby Mace has joined Everton from Leicester for a club record fee On Wednesday Everton signed England international Ruby Mace in a club-record deal – the latest example of the ambition of owners the Friedkin Group. The versatile 21-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, called the move from Leicester City to Goodison Park “a dream come true” and Everton have signed one of the most promising prospects in the WSL. An aggressive ball-winner, Mace provides an all-action game of tackles and interceptions, while an impressive engine allows her to cover the whole pitch as this touch map from Opta demonstrates. Image source,Opta Ruby Mace is capable of winning the ball back all over the pitch She is at her most effective breaking up play, ranking among the top eight WSL players for both tackles and interceptions per 90 minutes. Mace, who made her England debut in the win against Switzerland in December, also boasts good experience for her age, having started 52 WSL matches and played 3,455 minutes. Her style of play, however, does come with some risk. Only West Ham forward Viviane Asseyi conceded more fouls than Mace’s 34 in last season’s WSL campaign. She is now set to make her debut in the Merseyside derby at Anfield in Sunday's season opener. Image source,BBC Sport Ruby Mace is one the most effective ball-winners in the WSL

History of Leicestershire in Images Mervin Wallace · LEWIS’S STORE, LEICESTER Few of a certain will forget Lewis's department store on Humberstone Gate in Leicester. It closed and was demolished in the 1990s, with only its Art Deco tower now remaining as a standalone feature. Lewis’s, first opened on Saturday the 21st March 1936, with one of the main attractions on the first day being donkey rides for children on the roof. “It was great for shoppers because it sold everything from a thimble to a greenhouse and was noted for good quality. The restaurant on the top floor was famous for being modelled after a restaurant on the Queen Mary liner, with porthole windows, and where from personal experience I had ‘Silver Service Afternoon Tea with my grandparents in the 1950s. “There was also a hair salon, bank, travel agent and pets corner, and few will for get the Food Hall and the quality of the products it sold there. Thousands will remember visiting Santa in his magical grotto. “Father Christmas” would arrive in a blaze of glory in late October and, one year, he climbed the famous tower amid laser beams. The first Lewis's store was opened in 1856 in Liverpool by entrepreneur David Lewis, as a men's and boys' clothing store, mostly manufacturing his own stock. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Absolutely diabolical the building wasn't reconfigured for modern day shopping. 50 years and I'm sure it was built of stone to last for another 50 or more years. I wonder where all the stone went? Probably crushed and used for roadbuilding or some modern concrete monstrosity. -

https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/inside-king-power-stadium-true-10473299 By Jordan Blackwell Page could miss month of action Louis Page is away with England’s Under-18s at the moment, playing in a three-match tournament in Spain that will see the City midfielder face peers from Uzbekistan, Morocco and Canada. The camp will count as preparation for the Under-17 World Cup, which is being played in Qatar in November. It is England’s current Under-18s that will represent the nation in the Middle East, with qualification secured earlier this year when they were still the Under-17s. England’s first game at the 48-team tournament is on November 4, with the final on November 27. Assuming there will be a brief training period before the group fly out to Qatar, that could mean Page misses a month of football for City. That’s assuming City grant Page permission to play. Not many of the players in the England group are current senior first-team players. But with Aaron Ramsey and Jordan James signed, and with a striker coming in to allow Jordan Ayew to play deeper, City should have enough coverage to allow Page to represent his country. Monga gets England promotion Jeremy Monga would be eligible to play at the Under-17 World Cup too, but he’s so far not been in that group. In fact, Monga jumped up two age brackets this international break. Initially called up to the Under-17s, injuries saw him switch to the Under-19s, the winger going on to start in a 2-0 win over Ukraine on Wednesday. City midfielder Hugo de Lisle was called up to the Under-17s in his place. With Darren Motsi in the Under-16s, Page in the Under-18s and Ben Nelson with the Under-21s, City had a player in nearly all of the England age brackets. -
