Born in the 40s, grew up in the 50s, started a family in the 60s · Follow What Happened To Jet Harris After Leaving The Shadows. After leaving The Shadows at the height of their success in 1962, he launched a successful collaborative career with hits like "Besame Mucho," "The Man With The Golden Arm," and the UK number-one "Diamonds" with drummer Tony Meehan. Despite his immense early success, his personal and professional life experienced significant turbulence. He struggled with depression and alcoholism, and his career was severely derailed in late 1963 when he survived a near-fatal, chauffeur-driven car crash that left him with severe head injuries. To make ends meet in the years that followed, he took on various jobs, including working as a bricklayer, a hospital porter, and a bus conductor. He was declared bankrupt in 1988 In his final years, Jet returned to the stage as a heritage artist, touring the UK on nostalgia shows and with backing bands like The Rapiers. He performed until just weeks before his death. He is remembered as a towering figure who explored both the rhythmic and melodic potential of the bass, influencing generations of musicians. He passed away on March 18, 2011, at the age of 71. Family = Jet had five sons and a daughter. He resided in Bembridge, Isle of Wight. He was a heavy smoker and died two years after being diagnosed with cancer of unknown primary, at the home of his partner Janet Hemingway, in Winchester.
