Harry Souttar opens up on Leicester City emotions after ending 16-month injury hell Story by Jordan Blackwell Harry Souttar was thrilled to end his 16-month injury hell and feel part of the Leicester City team again. The centre-back has spoken publicly for the first time since his comeback from a series of injuries that began with an Achilles tear on loan at Sheffield United in December 2024. After multiple setbacks, Souttar finally returned to action for the last two games of City’s season, scoring his first goal for the club in a 1-1 draw against Millwall and then helping them keep a rare clean sheet with a 1-0 victory over Blackburn. As one of the few senior players not associated with either of the last two relegations, there’s plenty of support in the City fanbase for Souttar to stay with the club and help them out of League One. He said he was delighted to feel part of the City team again, playing for the club for the first since December 2023. However, he did recognise the club is having a “difficult time”. “This one (the Achilles injury) didn't really feel that bad, although there were multiple surgeries and a few different injuries,” Souttar said. “I learned to deal with long-term injuries before that, so I knew what to expect going in. I knew what it took to get back, the hard work and the gym hours it took to come back. “You're going to go through ups and downs with your injury, with getting back. There were times I was back training and I'd have another little niggle or have to get another surgery. So you're stopping and starting again. “It was nice going into the first game, coming back from injury. It was a strange situation, because the club were obviously already relegated. It's in a bit of a difficult time at the moment. “But for me coming in, I was just so buzzing to be back on the park, so buzzing to be playing again. The concentration was just to play my normal game. It doesn't matter how long you've been out. Just do what you do best. Know your strengths and play to that. “I thought it (the Millwall fixture) was a good game to come back to, at home, live on Sky, just to show everyone what I'm about. I thought I did that okay, obviously with a goal. “We didn't get the clean sheet, but it was just so nice to be back on the pitch, just to have that feeling after the game. I just feel like part of the team again.” Souttar is hoping to feel part of another team this summer by earning a spot in the Australia squad. He’s been at a Socceroos training camp in Florida recently to prove his fitness ahead of the tournament in North America. Souttar said: “The squad doesn't get announced until the start of June, so I've still got a lot of work to do to get into that final squad, because the group's done really well in the previous two years. They've come a long way. “There's still a lot of hard work to go. I can prove over the next three or four weeks what I'm capable of.”

Leicester Local · Follow LEICESTER LOCAL NEWS: “CITY CENTRE ISN’T WHAT IT USED TO BE” AS SHOPPERS MOURN LOSS OF FAMILIAR STORES The closure of the WH Smith and Post Office branch on Gallowtree Gate has sparked a wave of frustration and sadness among Leicester shoppers, with many saying the city centre has “lost its heart”. The store – now rebranded as TG Jones – was one of the last remaining places in the city centre where residents could access books, stationery, cards and Post Office services all under one roof. For many older residents especially, the closure marks another blow to a city centre they say has changed dramatically over the past decade. Shoppers speaking to Leicester Local described a growing feeling that Leicester’s high street is becoming dominated by vape shops, phone stores and barbers, while long-standing names and everyday essentials continue to disappear. The closure follows years of major changes across the city centre, including the loss of the M&S, Debenhams, Size, independent retailers and a number of restaurants and cafés that once made the city feel busier and more vibrant. Others pointed to the closure of popular venues such as Peter Pizzeria and the gradual decline in evening footfall as signs the city centre is struggling to retain its identity. One shopper told Leicester Local: “You used to come into town for the whole day. Shopping, lunch, a coffee, browse the bookshops. Now people just order online or avoid town altogether.” Another said: “Older people especially relied on places like WH Smith and the Post Office. Not everyone wants apps and self-service machines.” Despite the criticism, many residents said they still want Leicester city centre to succeed — but believe it needs more independent shops, safer streets, cleaner public spaces and attractions that give people a reason to visit again. What do YOU think Leicester city centre is missing most?

You could say that about most of them

Do other countries have the knee jerk reaction to any major or even some minor incidents to change the government. It's becoming more difficult to have two consecutive terms in parliament. Certainly Labour have struggled with this. This I believe is the upturn of influence from the massive increase in media a lot of it driven by the right wing or money grabbing heads of businesses.
-
The fact that voters are switching from Labour to Reform, who are miles apart politically shows what it has been for many years now but much worse due to the abundance of media outlets a leader popularity contest.
