  1. Your Leicester is at Odeon Arcade. · Follow The iconic Odeon Arcade is getting an Art Deco upgrade If you’ve walked past the Market Place recently, you know this historic site has so much untold history. Now, plans have officially been approved to breathe new life into the space while completely honoring its heritage. Phew. The team at MADE Architecture is keeping the breathtaking 1920s Art Deco facade facing Market Place, alongside those signature curved glass window bays The clunky 1960s rear extension on Cank Street is making way for a sleek, five-storey development featuring 39 city-centre apartments and a beautiful, landscaped internal courtyard. Best of all for our independent scene, the ground and basement floors will be transformed into a vibrant, open shopping arcade with 13 brand-new retail units This is a massive step for this part of the city bringing a premium, cool, and beautifully designed buzz right back to the city centre. It will complement the Leiecster Market perfectly when both are finished. Change always brings big conversations, and we know our local independent businesses are keeping a close eye on the construction disruption. But we can’t wait to see this beautiful piece of Leicester’s history in its fully glory again. Shame the rear is so uninspiring
  2. Why Unai Emery has named Leicester City as a cautionary tale in Aston Villa pursuit | Leicestershire Live Why Unai Emery has named Leicester City as a cautionary tale in Aston Villa pursuit The Aston Villa boss has spoken about competing for the Premier League title, but is wary of how Leicester City have fallen in the decade since they lifted the trophy Jordan Blackwell 06:37, 22 May 2026 Leicester City are a cautionary tale for Aston Villa manager Unai Emery as he targets a Premier League title push. Emery guided Villa to their first major trophy in 30 years with a 3-0 victory over Freiburg in the Europa League final on Wednesday night, former City midfielder Youri Tielemans lashing in the opener. The next step is to compete for domestic honours. Villa have already cracked the top six, and will claim their second top-four finish in three years with a draw in their final Premier League fixture this weekend. But Emery is looking even higher, and wants to replicate what City did a decade ago in winning the title. However, the Spaniard pointed to City’s recent fall into League One to show that any push for honours needs to be done with “sustainability” and “responsibility”. “What we must establish is being able to repeat it over time,” Emery told AS in Spain. “Ten years ago, Leicester City won the league here, above all those other teams. This year, unfortunately, they've been relegated to League One. “So, we at Aston Villa, with this project I joined, came to be able to grow sustainably and maintain our position. “That's what gives me the most satisfaction right now: being a team capable of competing naturally with the big teams these past few years, close to Arsenal and Manchester City without quite reaching them, and close to Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Newcastle, but even above them. “The next step, if we can be consistent, would be to be able to do something similar to what Leicester did, or come close. But with sustainability in mind. That's the Aston Villa project, the one that demands the most, earns the most recognition, and carries the greatest responsibility.” Villa’s league position would have secured them Champions League football even if they hadn’t won the Europa League. That’s something City were unable to do after their title win, finishing fifth twice in 2020 and 2021. Emery added: “Being in the Champions League will allow us, beyond the Premier League, to compete against the best teams. “Last season we played in the quarter-finals against PSG, and even came close to winning that tie. For me, as a coach, seeing your team compete at that level is comforting, motivating, and makes you want to continue being part of this project, to be a coach who wants to achieve things.”

  5. The Record Office for Leicestershire, Leicester & Rutland GORLESTON GETS A LIFEBOAT THANKS TO LEICESTER 22nd May 1866 saw the official launch of the Leicester lifeboat! Despite being one of the furthest counties from the sea, Leicestershire has always been a proud supporter of the lifeboats. The fundraiser in 1866 raised close to the modern-day equivalent of £60,000 for a new lifeboat and boathouse in Gorleston, Norfolk. The boat travelled from the railway station into Campbell Street and then down Granby Street into the centre of the city. It was in a procession that had a Leicestershire Regiment band at the front with companies of Rifles front and rear. Enthusiastic people lined the sides of every street. When it reached the River Soar, a formal naming ceremony took place with guest speakers from the military and the church. The lifeboat, made of mahogony, was launched onto the River Soar and the crew gave a demonstration to a cheering crowd before making its way to its new home. This photograph is a glass plate negative from our archives (ref. GP724) showing a later fundraising parade through the city from 1905, with a lifeboat being pulled on a horse-drawn wagon and the lifeboatmen 'fishing' for donations! Over the years the generosity of the locals has funded several lifeboats on the Norfolk coast. This one named the 'The Leicester', helped save 89 lives during her service in the early 20th century. 6. Privatisation was done under the guise of saving taxpayers money but hasn't helped with profits being extracted and Government / tax payers money still being needed. Same with the water they were all solvent when privatised but surplus land sold off and profits straight into the 'owners' pockets and now lack of investment leading to polluted rivers etc and mountain of debts.
  7. I’ve been watching Portilo’s Japanese trading journeys and they seem to knock up HS lines regularly in fact many countries seem to have them. Every thing we do here is a drama even a bit of road upgrading means it’s shut for weeks even months.

  18. off the pitch the finance department needs to be stripping out areas of waste or were not necessary. Maybe shut down the heated swimming pool and do a Ranieri - opened when you get to 40 points or what ever the target is in League 1 but generally bring a little hardship / need to earn culture. Throw in some proper non-football team building, like a team hike/race up Peny Fan in the Brecon Beacons and in bivouacking. Emphasise this is League one get promoted and some luxuries will return.

  22. Story of Leicester 13 April 2022 · Here is a throwback to the London Road/Mayfield Road roundabout, when it was newly constructed in 1957. Notice the interesting Police Box visible on the left? It would have been at the top corner of Victoria Park. It is rare that we find pictures of Police Boxes in Leicester, after they were phased out in the 1970s. Can any of you remember other locations of Police Boxes across the city?
