  2. https://sportwitness.co.uk/everton-leicester-southampton-handed-second-shot-player-drama-isnt-yet/ Everton, Leicester and Southampton handed second shot at player – Drama isn’t over yet By Sean Lunt -21st July 2024 Everton, Leicester City and Southampton may have been given their second chance at signing Martin Braithwaite as his proposed move to Olympiakos appears to be off. That’s according to Tipsbladet and Mundo Deportivo, who both report that the striker has decided to head back to Spain, and nothing is done with the Greek side. Braithwaite is having a busy week, starting it on Monday by making the surprise decision to buy out his contract at Espanyol and make himself a free agent. That opened up the race for his signature, with Everton, Leicester and Southampton all having been named as potential suitors for the Danish striker. Their chances appeared to be over earlier this week, though, as it soon emerged that Olympiakos were leading the race for Braithwaite, and he was heading to Greece to finalise a move to the Europa Conference League winners. Well, it seems there’s now been a hitch on that front as Tipsbladet report that Braithwaite is now on a flight back to Spain. They report that it is now unclear whether he will be joining Olympiakos after all given his planned trip to Athens would also see him complete a medical and sign his contract with them. Mundo Deportivo back this up, saying the deal to take him to Olympiakos has now been called off after it seemed to be a matter of hours away from being completed. According to them the ‘agreement is currently dead’ and the Dane, who remains a free agent, is considering other options. One of those is Gremio in Brazil. It seems he’s going to look around, though, opening the door for Everton, Leicester and Southampton to potentially revive their interest if they want to.

Billed as a training exercise before their first official pre-season fixture at Shrewsbury on Tuesday, City and their Spanish opponents played out four periods of 30 minutes, allowing Steve Cooper to give game-time to at least 24 players. With a win secured too, it wrapped up City’s training camp in Evian-les-Bains on a high. Vardy captained the side that started the match at Stade Camille Fournier and he opened the scoring too. James Justin scampered down the left flank onto Harry Souttar's raking pass and squared the ball, where Vardy was on hand to finish first time. Villarreal were quickly level, with Souttar turning into his own net. Trying to cut out a pass across the six-yard box, the Australian international slid in, inadvertently knocking the ball over the line. For the second hour, City changed their whole 11, and they grabbed a winner. Conor Coady pinged a long ball over the top, with Mavididi bringing it down expertly. He waited for support, but then went alone, curling into the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Tuesday’s game at Croud Meadow will reveal more details about City’s set-up, but highlights from Saturday’s test suggested they were lining up in a 4-4-2 out of possession, but potentially with wing-backs in possession. Starting the game were Danny Ward, Brandon Cover, Harry Souttar, Caleb Okoli, James Justin, Harry Winks, Wilfred Ndidi, Abdul Fatawu, Wanya Marcal, Tom Cannon, and Jamie Vardy, with Will Alves substituted on. For the second hour, the line-up was Daniel Iversen, Ricardo Pereira, Ben Nelson, Conor Coady, Luke Thomas, Hamza Choudhury, Boubakary Soumare, Kasey McAteer, Michael Golding, Stephy Mavididi, and Patson Daka, with Silko Thomas brought on later.

Jeenawilder · Follow 2 d · The German armored steam locomotive DR #19.1001, also known as the 19 1001, was a unique and innovative express train steam locomotive operated by the Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) during World War II. Manufactured by Henschel, this fully streamlined trials locomotive with factory number 25000 was an experimental design featuring a single-axle drive to each axle, a method commonly used in electric locomotives. The locomotive's four driving axles were each driven by a separate steam-driven motor, showcasing innovative technology for its time. At the end of the war, the locomotive remained in the vicinity of Göttingen and was subsequently transferred to the manufacturer on the orders of the American occupying forces for repair. After the necessary repairs were completed, a short test run was conducted between Kassel and Wabern. Recognizing the locomotive's special nature and innovative technology, the U.S. Army decided to ship the 19 1001 to the United States. The locomotive was then exhibited alongside the class 52 2006 condensing locomotive at Fort Monroe in Virginia, starting in March 1946. Subsequently, the locomotive was used in the U.S. for a number of test runs. This unique locomotive, the only one of its kind built, played a significant role in the post-war period, serving as a testament to technological innovation and the exchange of knowledge and expertise between nations during a pivotal historical era. German armored steam locomotive DR #19.1001, with its experimental design and innovative technology, had a remarkable history that extended beyond its wartime service. Its transfer to the United States and subsequent use in test runs underscore its significance as a symbol of technological advancement and international collaboration during the post-war period.
  5. Jeenawilder · In the late 1970s, NASA and Rockwell International collaborated on a groundbreaking study to design a single-stage-to-orbit (SSTO) spaceplane concept called the Star-Raker. The goal was to create a spaceplane capable of horizontal takeoff and landing, revolutionizing space transportation by offering operational flexibility and the ability to carry heavy payloads to low Earth orbit. The Star-Raker was envisioned as an enormous vehicle that could carry a 100-ton payload and launch heavy space-based solar power satellites into a 300 nautical mile Earth orbit. It was designed to have a multicycle airbreather ramjet/cryogenic rocket engine configuration, with three LOX/LH2 rocket engines based on the Space Shuttle Main Engine (SSME) and ten turboramjets. However, the Star-Raker project never progressed beyond the conceptual stage. It was canceled after a test flight ended in an accident when the vehicle landed with three of its four legs deployed, causing it to tip over and explode. The project faced challenges and funding issues, leading to its discontinuation. Despite its cancellation, the Star-Raker concept continues to captivate the imagination of space enthusiasts and engineers. Its innovative design and ambitious goals reflect the ongoing pursuit of more efficient and cost-effective means of space transportation.

Leigh CurtisDerby County Writer 11:24, 20 JUL 2024 UPDATED11:34, 20 JUL 2024 Foxes receive transfer snub Leicester City’s pursuit of Matias Soule looks to be all but over with the Juventus attacker said to be snubbing a move to the Premier League. City have been prominently linked with Soule for the past couple of weeks, vying with Roma for his signature. But while it initially seemed the transfer battle would be won by whichever club met Juventus’s asking price, the 21-year-old’s own preference looks set to be decisive. It was previously reported that, while Soule was leaning towards a prolonged stay in Serie A, he was not against a move to City. But on Wednesday night, Gazzetta dello Sport reported Soule has definitively decided Roma is his next destination and that he has no desire to move to City nor West Ham, the other Premier League side credited with interest. The Italian capital is just an hour from where Soule spent last season, on loan at Frosinone, while he has friends already at Roma in fellow Argentinians Paulo Dybala and Leandro Paredes. It’s said he feels it would be easier to integrate into life at Roma than it would be to do so in England. All that is needed is an agreement between Roma and Juventus and the capital club have now submitted a bid of €25m plus €5m in bonuses. That’s the same offer City were reported to have made. Giuseppe Labellarte Sat 20 July 2024 16:45, UKUpdated Sat 20 July 2024 17:07, UK Matias Soule chooses Leicester over Premier League rivals As per the report, Soule is ‘believed to fancy a move to the 2015/16 Premier League champions (Leicester) and has rejected offers from Napoli, Villa, Palace, Newcastle and Brentford to do so.’ Better yet for Soule and Leicester, Juve are reportedly ready to accept the Foxes’ £21million offer, while the player has apparently agreed personal terms with the King Power side. Juve will then use that money to launch a move for Manchester United’s Jadon Sancho, added the report.

  14. https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/news/local-news/leicestershire-golf-course-could-concreted-9420229 Leicestershire golf course could be concreted over for 200 new homes and shops This is the second application to build on the course in around eight months ByHannah RichardsonLocal Democracy Reporter 12:37, 19 JUL 2024 Another developer is eyeing up a Leicestershire golf course for new homes. Hallam Land Management Ltd has submitted an application to Blaby District Council setting out plans to build over most of Blaby Golf Course. It is the second development proposed for the course in around eight months. Davidsons Homes submitted a bid in November for 53 homes on the disused allotments at the edge of the course and on part of the adjacent fairway. At the time, a local resident told LeicestershireLive they were concerned this could “set a precedent in the future to further develop all of the golf course”. The Davidsons application is yet to be decided. If both that and Hallam's plan are approved, maps submitted with the latest application suggest the two estates could sit side by side and cover the course as a whole. The Hallam plan is for outline permission, which means the developer is seeking permission for the scheme in principle, with the full details to be approved through a later application. However, documents reveal access would be from Lutterworth Road and Winchester Road. The two public rights of way running through the site are expected to be maintained. The houses are currently proposed to mostly be two-storeys in height, with some 2.5-storey homes as well. They would range from one-beds to five-beds, documents suggest. The south-eastern edge of the site would be kept as green space, documents added. Play areas would be provided and there are indications some of the land could be converted into two football pitches for community use. Some of the space is currently home to shops, plans show. These would be replaced with new units facing Lutterworth Road, Hallam said. Members of the local community have raised a number of concerns about the impact of the proposed development on their village. Among them is local councillor Paul Hartshorn who said on social media: “While I'm not against new housing developments, I am concerned about the impact this quantity of new housing will have on local school capacity, the ability of our doctors to cope with increased demand, and the road network. This also brings us closer to joining Blaby with Countesthorpe.”

Being together in Evian-les-Bains gives new manager Steve Cooper more time to put in place his plans for the upcoming campaign, and allows the summer recruits to bed into the squad. For onlookers, it means there’s more to analyse. Here, we’ve noted down a few things we’ve spotted from the pictures and videos to emerge from City's training camp before we get a proper look at Cooper’s side at Shrewsbury next Tuesday. City set up in back four in training exercise One of the big unknowns at the moment is whether City will start the season in a back four or back five. Cooper used both at Nottingham Forest, but did seem to lean towards a back five, deploying wing-backs to great effect, particularly in their promotion out of the Championship. But a few pictures from Evian showed an attack versus defence exercise where City looked to line up in a back four. On one side it was, from right to left, Ricardo Pereira, Harry Souttar, Conor Coady and Luke Thomas, and with Hamza Choudhury as a defensive midfielder in front of them. At the other end of the pitch, the back four was Brandon Cover, Ben Nelson, Caleb Okoli and James Justin, with Harry Winks sitting. It looked like City were attacking as a group of five, much in the same way they did last season under Enzo Maresca. So there were two wingers, two attacking midfielders and one striker. This could have been a warm-up exercise and not indicative of any plans Cooper has. But equally, it wouldn’t be a surprise if City had started training in either the defensive or attacking shape they plan to take into the season. More will be revealed at Shrewsbury on Tuesday. Cooper just wants to tweak And certainly there are early signs that City may well play in a similar set-up and in a similar style to how they did last term. Ricardo is now the second player, after Conor Coady, to say Cooper only wants to make tweaks here and there, rather than sweeping changes. The full-back told the club: “(Cooper) wants to build relationships with everyone, a nice connection between all of us. Of course we will do some things that will be different from last season but some things will stick and we’ll just change some bits here and there.” No Stolarczyk with under-18s goalkeeper in There’s no sign yet of the five players who competed at the European Championship or at Copa America – Mads Hermansen, Jannik Vestergaard, Wout Faes, Victor Kristiansen and Bobby De Cordova-Reid – as they’re still on holiday. But everyone else who was expected to be there is there, apart from one. At least, it does not appear that goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk has travelled. He’s not featured in any of the footage to have so far been released from the camp. But there are still four goalkeepers there, with Danny Ward, Daniel Iversen and Brad Young joined by 19-year-old Stevie Bausor. He was with City’s under-18s last season, starting 10 of their 24 league games, and will be stepping up to the under-21s this year. Okoli’s new number possibly revealed Confirming the permanent arrival of Abdul Fatawu this week, City announced that he would be wearing the no 7 in the new campaign, trading in his no 18 for the shirt worn by Cesare Casadei last season. And it seems he’s not the only one who’s been handed a number in the starting 11. New signing Caleb Okoli has been sporting no 5 on his shorts in training. It would make sense if that is to be the number he takes as it’s free following Callum Doyle’s return to Manchester City, while it’s also the number he wore at both Atalanta and Frosinone. Squad numbers are not the be all and end all these days, but it does give the impression Okoli is coming in to play a prominent role amid fierce competition in the centre of the defence. There's currently six senior centre-backs at the club, and depending on the formation, potentially only two starting spots.
