literally irrelevant to what's being discussed - the culture people are talking about is the egos behind the scenes, the sort of environment where it was seen as acceptable to hold up a sign saying Enzo I Miss U at a Christmas party when your current manager was under pressure, the sort of environment where players felt they could allegedly refuse to do strength and conditioning training under RvN, or turn up with their dogs like it was a trip down the park. If your pattern recognition is that that causes toxic reactions from fans, your pattern recognition is shit. The point is that that you don't need a manager who is tactically poor to fix that culture, you can do that and still win games of football.

that's true if you're prodding and probing, moving it around reasonably quickly in the final third or at least their half - at that point they need to be set perfectly and move their set positions rapidly. That is exhausting. Watching two centre backs 10 yards inside their own half pass it side to side doesn't require you to constantly shift between set positions, it doesn't draw you into challenges and open space...

culture is important, I'm just not convinced by the idea that you can either have Martin fix the culture or have a proper manager winning games - a decent manager sorts out both (E.g Pearson coming in 2011, bombing out the bad eggs like Mills and Beckford and getting us back to the PL). it's a false dichotomy to suggest Martin needs to stay to fix the culture

it doesn't always lead to that, guardiolas Barca and his man city up to 20/21 weren't reliably getting out shot every single game - but they weren't because they had what would be 80/90m+ players in today's fees in every single position, outdoing every single opponent. To place this way you need an expert coach and a squad of players leagues above anyone they're facing - we've got Russell Martin and Luke Thomas, who's never known a division he can't play poorly in.
