Looks like it's bollocks someone made it up: http://loudtwitter.com/rumours_duncan_ferguson_gary_speed_wife/ Some people really are sick to just make something like that up not only heaping more misery on a dead man's wife and kids but also dragging an innocent man in to it...
-
Because the more people spout this crap the more people will believe it, then when the actual reason/verdict is given it will be so unnewsworthy that no one will even pick up on it and all that will remain are these rumours imbedded at the back of people's minds that he was gay. Then when all the dust is cleared and people forget about the facts there will just be this underlying belief that he was gay and with no evidence to back it up or deny it it will just start to be accepted as one of those facts. If people start to believe he was gay then he will end up being gay and people will be adamant that it is true. Even now, ask yourself and your friends do you think he was gay, see how many people say that they think he could be or that it "makes sense." That is all because of the internet. No paper could publish that or even allude to it. We create rumours and then spread them to the point where it might as well be true. For example Tom Cruise is gay or Lady Gaga is a man.
-
It is getting ridiculous now, there is not one shred of evidence about Gary Speed being gay, there may be a story about his private life, but every football forum has at least one post about him being gay, and they are each using each other as further evidence of something that is without evidence. Eventually it will become a self fulfilling prophecy and in 5 years time when ever his name comes up someone will say wasn't he the one who killed himself because he was gay? And someone else will say yeah I think so. In the end whether it is true or not Gary Speed will be gay, isn't the internet great. Like Tom Cruise (married with kids) is obviously gay and everyone knows it except him.

The truth is important, but only when it is relevant to you, whether Giggs shagged some bird of big brother or not has no relevance to my life. The same goes for most of the crap printed in the rags, that's why I don't read them. Anyway I am going to leave this thread as we are getting away from the point which is as a tribute to a great sportsman, we will pick up the merits of the press and privacy rights of celebrities in another thread another time.
-
I can and I do. If you were a famous person with a shameful secret and you saw what happened to Giggs the way he was plastered all over the papers the way despite all his money and wealth he couldn't keep it out the press how his reputation was destroyed in a matter of days. Then you got a phone call from someone telling you that you were about to be exposed and you imagine everything that happened to Giggs happening to you and to your family. That is going to make things much harder to deal with it may even send someone over the edge. So yes I do judge the public and the media because they feast on such juicy morsels of gossip, the media feed it to us and we lap it up, it's disgusting. We don't know yet if there was a story about Speed, but that still doesn't stop us speculating, because we love it.
-
Has it changed your life in any way to know that he had an affair, other than to have some ammo to sling at him should he ever play against us? I would be much happier to believe there were more nice people in the world and be wrong than know the sordid details of everybodies private life. Likewise with Speed there is nothing to gain from destroying the reputation of a someone who has died, all it will serve is to heap misery on his family, they could probably cope with the news in private, it may even give them answers to explain why this happened and help them deal with the grief, but it won't be in private it will be all over the press and on the terraces, it would be devasting if there is a news story so bad to make him take his life and if there is it will come out.
-
The thing is would he still have this respect if this story came to light? I don't want to speculate on what it may or may not be, but if there is a story then it seems likely that it was something pretty bad and probably true if it made him end his own life. Maybe he has battled with depression and this story pushed him over the edge, or maybe there is something so terrible in his past that if it came out he would lose everything. The thing is how did he know there was a news story coming out about him? Steve Coogan said something a few days ago in reference to the current inquiry into the media. http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/blog/2011/nov/22/leveson-inquiry-steve-coogan-liveBasically journalists phone you up getting you to confirm something they have discovered illegally in return for keeping some details private, by agreeing to this you are giving them the confirmation they can print it, because you have told them it is true. Just wondering if Gary Speed had a similar phone call on Saturday night? Part of me really wants the whole incident to be laid to rest in a dignified manner, and this story about Speed to not exist. For the sake of his family could you imagine losing a loved one then finding out a few days later that he was not the man he seemed to be, it would be devasting. If the papers do have a hand in all of this then they need to be exposed and shamed, they will have blood on their hands and not for the first time, unfortunately this could see Speed's name and family dragged through the gutter press.

I don't know why this has affected me so much, normally I am unfased by people I don't know dying, but this makes no sense. He was a consumate professional as a footballer and a manager, he had everything that anyone could dream of. I am just dumbstruck. When you hear of some players like Collymore and Gazza suffering from depression and mental health issues, it really comes as no surprise when you look at their careers. I can't think of anything negative to say about Speed, I can't think of any negative news stories, no kiss and tells, no fights in clubs, nothing. If he was suffering from depression I wonder if the Wales job had a negative effect on him, I mean it is less than a part time job really, he may have had too much time on his hands unable to bury himself in his work and things got on top of him. If this has been caused by some scum journalists then we need to look at ourselves, at our society and how we feed off these stories. Whatever crap is printed in papers is done so because we lap it up, we love celebrity misery because it makes us feel better about our lives. I hope if there is a story it will never come to light, but it will, of course it will, the rumours have already started and soon they will become fact. The internet will soon by full of speculation and eventually the truth will out and whatever it is he did or was will still have the devastating effect on his family that he wanted to avoid. There is no reason that makes this right, there is no way to explain this, I really really feel for his family in all of this, not only have they lost a loved one they are going to have suffer weeks/months of speculation.

Yes, yes you are, you have set back the civil rights movement by 50 years, you will see. Tomorrow slavery will be reintroduced, apartheid will return to South Africa by the weekend, native americans will be rounded up and shot and the body of Rosa Parks will be dug up and her corpse forced to stand on busses full of white people to serve as reminder to any black people who get ideas above their station all because you laughed at a joke. Seriously man get grip.

It is to say that it is their interpretation of events. If you read something that's meaning is not obvious or watch an obscure film and you are discussing it with someone else you would use "that's my understanding" to say that it is your interpretation of what author or film maker is trying to say.

True but when he became PM in 1990 it was not following an election and therefore not democratically decided.
-
It is possible to have a truely democratic society, but it is unweildy and highly inefficient and a vote would need to be taken by all members of the society on all aspects that effect the society. In theory, what we have is a form of democracy whereby we vote to choose the people we believe are in the best position and have the knowledge to make the right decisions about our society. In reality what we have is a limited pool of people who subscribe to 1 of 2 or 3 ways of thinking that are then arbitrarily bestowed roles on which we have no say in whether or not they are suitable for that role. True we elect the members of parliament but we have no say in what role they take, we have no say in who becomes the PM (Gordon Borwn and Major were both unelected leaders) nor who becomes responsible for the Economy, Health, Education etc. Not to mention that we are lied to constantly during campaiging and have no means to enforce the government to stick to their manifesto nor holding them to account for their mistakes. Democracy is not a myth, but what we have isn't it. The Electoral reforms and alternative vote system will help to change that but until we elect people for roles, or the role they will take is outlined before we vote and we are able to remove the politicians we elect should we see fit, we will not have democracy in the true sense of the word.

Sometimes the poster will see a disabled link because it is cached on their browser, can you not just post the link so we can enjoy it? It's bad to post in a pictures thread without a picture so here you go

I quite agree, and I do like your equation, but if you plug in my values of infinity, then Infinity = infinity -1 which I'm not sure makes sense A question then. How much time do you spend on Foxestalk, and do you ever wonder if it's too much?

The one correct answer is subjective, For example there is only one correct answer to the question: "How old are you?" But this answer changes depending on who is asked the question, if we stick to years and use the presumption that there are people of all ages up to 110 (there are 3 110 year olds currently alive so not an unfair assumption to make) there are 111 correct answers to that question. If you start including months and days, or change it to "What is your date of birth?" then we have a huge number of answers to one question. You have to remember that rhetorical questions have answers, you are just not expected to answer them because the answer is either obvious or unwanted. For there to be more questions than answers, there has to be more unanswerable questions than combinations of answers to subjective questions. An unanswerable: What happens to your soul when you die? There are answers to this question but at the moment there is no one true/correct answer so this falls outside of your definition of an answer. I reckon there are an infinite number of questions based on the fact that there are an inifinite number of numbers and questions can be about numbers, so therefore there are also an infinite number of answers, because questions about numbers have definite answers. Therefore the number of questions = the number of answers.

The other definition of sound is vibration of the air molecules, so in that case yes it does make a sound. It is not the only thought experiment though you may want to look up Schrodingers cat: At it's most basic there is a cat in a box with some poison, how do you know the cat is dead without opening the box. The more detailed explanantion is here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schr%C3%B6dinger%27s_cat#The_thought_experiment

He's scored 'em with his left foot, He's scored 'em with his right, And I'm sure one day for city, He'll score one on the night. Today would be a good day for Yann to open his Leicrster account.

I think I now the answer to that one. As for what floats my boat living in a city where I can go to the beach and play volleyball in November and not need thermal underwear.

Hello, Leicester City fan living in Valencia, Spain, I've been lucky enough to watch the last 2 games on the old interwebs, and I remembered how much I loved this team. Not having anyone to discuss the finer points of football with apart from plastic united and liverpool fans (and the odd leyton orient and reading fan) I thought I would join this forums and extol the virtues of the mighty LCFC.
