red5 Posted 12 June 2015 Posted 12 June 2015 Five men from Leicestershire have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in an outbreak of violence between rival football fans in Birmingham city centre. The men – aged 18 to 41 – have been questioned about a brawl between Leicester City and West Brom supporters in and around a Birmingham pub on Saturday, April 11. West Midlands Police said the groups clashed as City fans prepared to head for New Street railway station to travel to West Brom's ground, the Hawthorns. The violence happened in and around a pub called the Shakespeare in Lower Temple Street, the force said. On Thursday, officers from the West Midlands and Leicestershire force staged a series of raids to detain four suspects in Leicester, Wigston and Whitwick. A fifth man voluntarily handed himself in at a police station in Leicester. The men have been questioned on suspicion of violent disorder and have been released on bail while detectives carry out further inquiries. A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "It happened as fans were on their way to New Street to catch their train to West Bromwich. "A number of fans clashed but nobody was seriously injured." City went on to win the game 3 – 2. On the same day, the force was also called to deal with clashes between fans of local Championship rivals Birmingham City and Wolves.
