MC Prussian Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Can somebody remind me what the atmosphere was like at the Stadium of Light last May?
Kitchandro Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 The only thing I would say is that however good the atmosphere is, it isn't done without any prompts. (Poznan, clappers, drum, goal music) I just wish we could create that same kind of atmosphere without having any of the above mentioned - maybe we can? I know we shouldn't care to much what other fans think but we're constantly being stated as 'tinpot' 'small club' 'embarrassing' 'plastic' by other club's fans. If we created an atmosphere which we created ourselves with no prompts to get it going, then we wouldn't have any of this and it would feel so much better knowing our atmosphere is original. If you're on about the drum in SK1 that us brought in by the fans, not supplied by the club. The atmosphere would be good in there regardless, because of the sort of people we have up there. The goal music has never once been positive for the atmosphere and the Poznan isn't supplied by the club either.
Mitch14 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 I've been to Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light with a mate who is a Sunderland fan and the Atmosphere at the last city match I went to (Southampton end of last season) was so much better than that. Only thing of interest was when Newcastle started lobbing coins and ripping up the seats, flat as a pancake regardless.

Everything starts with prompts, the kop doesn't spontaneously start chanting one person starts and others join in.Or the prompts come from the pitch, unless you are expecting us to develop a hive mind there will always be prompts, the difference is the take up. Things like tifo displays big flags and banners don't happen spontaneously. Even back in the "magical" days of filbert street there were prompts, whether it was ripped up pages of the sporting blue, or air horns. You have a completely warped expectation of what an atmosphere is. Go to European games and you will see people with their backs to the pitch all game literally conducting the fans. What we have is currently fantastic I don't see why anyone would knock it in the hope of some impossible ideal of what they think atmosphere should be.
Voll Blau Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Just wish we'd been the clappers really. People have hands.
purpleronnie Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Ray Parlour talked about how goo the atmosphere was on sky. At least people are taking note. Strange that our atmosphere has actually improved since promotion whereas other stadiums seem to get quieter once in the premiership.
SomalianFox15 Posted 10 August 2015 Posted 10 August 2015 Rather not have the clappers but they help to get everyone involved. We are getting a bit of a reputation for having a loud home crowd which seems to help the performance on the pitch so I don't care whether the Sunderland consider it to be 'artificial' or whatever. The King Power stadium is twice as loud as the morgue that is the Stadium Of Light.
